Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 706, Return to the Far North

Three days later, Lu Fan got to the Griffin Legion base camp in the Far North through a Transport Array.

Arriving directly at the Far North via Transport Array required materials that could be described as exceedingly expensive.

However, Lu Fan was now unimaginably wealthy. When he mentioned his desire to make a trip to the Far North, the very next day, Dragon Country soldiers had delivered to him an updated Map of the Far North.

Without needing to be told, these were all Elder Han’s arrangements.

In the subjugation of Cherry Blossom Country, Lu Fan had earned the greatest merit. However, this achievement naturally could not be made public, so Lu Fan could only be an unsung Hero.

To compensate Lu Fan, Elder Han showed absolutely no restraint when it came to delivering him resources. Whatever Lu Fan needed, if Dragon Country possessed it, Elder Han would have it delivered to Lu Fan.

Therefore, while Lu Fan had not had the opportunity to become a great Hero revered by all of Dragon Country, he certainly had not received any less in terms of actual benefits.

Lu Fan’s sudden appearance naturally drew the vigilance of the Griffin Legion.

When a Transport Array suddenly materialised within the base camp, the alarm immediately got triggered.

By the time Lu Fan emerged from the Transport Array, he saw at least a hundred Griffin Legion members surrounding him in a battle formation, ready to apprehend the ‘invader’”

Lu Fan was immediately at a loss, unsure whether to laugh or cry. He was thinking to himself, [I had already told Tu Jing beforehand. Why am I still being received with such a grand reception upon arrival?]

Lu Fan naturally would not fight with his Griffin Legion Brothers and Sisters, as strictly speaking, he was actually considered an auxiliary member of the Griffin Legion.

“I’m one of your own. Everyone, calm down!” Lu Fan shouted, while simultaneously producing his Gold Wing Medal.

It must be said, this Gold Wing Medal was incredibly effective. Upon seeing it, the surrounding Griffin Legion members immediately knelt on one knee, transforming from drawn swords and nocked arrows into a grand welcome for Lu Fan.

The Griffin Legion members present were mostly Iron Wing or Bronze Wing holders, with not even a Silver Wing among them.

To them, Lu Fan, with his Gold Wing Medal, was no different from their commanding officer. Who would dare show disrespect to him?

Being treated this way made Lu Fan somewhat uncomfortable so he quickly raised his hand. “Everyone, please rise. There’s no need for such formality.”

“I’m Lu Fan. I’ve come to find Senior Tu, Tu Jing. I’ve already given him advance notice.”

Just as Lu Fan finished speaking, a familiar voice rang out from the crowd. “Lu Fan! You rascal, it really is you!”

Lu Fan looked up to see a small team jogging towards him from a distance. It appeared they had heard the alarm and were rushing over too.

This small team consisted of four people, two of whom Lu Fan was quite familiar with: Lu Changkong and Lui Fei.

When Lu Fan had first come to the Far North, he had joined Lu Changkong and Lui Fei’s team. They had led him through Exploration Missions in the Far North, earning him substantial Military Merits and teaching him a lot of Wilderness survival skills.

Besides Lu Changkong and Lui Fei, the other two team members were unfamiliar to Lu Fan.

Both were young, probably not much older than Lu Fan himself. They seem to be new recruits, who had recently joined the team.

As for the third team member, the only female at the time, Shen Cai, she was nowhere to be seen.

This puzzled Lu Fan slightly, though he did not immediately ask about it.

Lu Changkong had already brought Lui Fei and the others before Lu Fan, his gaze filled with delight.

Lu Changkong and Lu Fan were definitely old acquaintances, comrades who had fought together, and were quite close.

He rushed towards Lu Fan, initially wanting to embrace him, but upon seeing the Gold Wing Medal in Lu Fan’s hand, he froze. After a moment’s consideration, he stopped and appeared ready to offer a military salute.

However, Lu Fan was quick-eyed and swift-handed. He immediately grasped his hand and spoke half-jokingly, half-seriously. “Brother, doing that would make us strangers! Although I now possess a Gold Wing Medal, I’ve always been the recruit you brought up.”

Lu Changkong was not a rigid person either. Seeing Lu Fan say this, he simply smiled and no longer treated Lu Fan as his higher-up.

“Right then, I won’t stand on ceremony with you either. But I have to say, what amazing timing. Our team just completed a Mission yesterday and just returned to rest, then you arrive. It seems the two of us are fated. The moment you come to the Far North, Heaven has arranged for us Brothers to meet again.”

“Haha, absolutely!” Lu Fan laughed as well.

Lui Fei stepped forward to greet Lu Fan, glancing at his Gold Wing Medal while saying cheekily. “Lu Fan, you’ve really made it big now. Back then I watched with my own eyes as your Medal was Iron Wing. Now look at you! It’s already Gold Wing! If I could gain Military Merits as quickly as you, my ancestors’ graves would be made out of gold by now.”

“Haha!” Lu Fan laughed. “Gaining Military Merits isn’t difficult. How about it, when I’m done with my current task, our team can continue doing Exploration Missions? I’m much stronger now than before. In a month’s time, I should be able to help you all advance to Silver Wing!”

“Bloody Hell, you have quite the attitude you know? Bringing us all to Silver Wing in a month!?” Lui Fei exclaimed in surprise, then laughed. “I always thought you were unusual, but now you’re even more monstrous.”

“Brother, you best forget it. Military Merits are something we should accumulate slowly for peace of mind. If you really help carry us to become Silver Wing, when we’re assigned Missions that only Silver Wings can handle, wouldn’t our abilities get us killed out there?”

“Oh right, I forgot to introduce them. These two are new team members, both selected to join the Griffin Legion this year.”

Saying this, Lui Fei introduced the two unfamiliar young men to Lu Fan.

Although these two young men were somewhat older than Lu Fan, they showed him absolutely no disrespect.

After all, Lu Fan’s reputation as a ‘Dragon Country Hero’ was quite resounding, and he now bore a Gold Wing Medal. It could be said that the prestige Lu Fan currently possessed was something they could never achieve in their lifetimes.

Even though being selected into the Griffin Legion at their age was enough for them to be proud of for life, but compared to Lu Fan, they truly fell short by kilometres.

Lu Fan greeting these two actually left them feeling overwhelmed by the honour.

After briefly getting to know these two, Lu Fan finally asked a question he had wanted to ask for some time. “Speaking of which, Brother Lui, Brother Lu, why isn’t Sister Shen Cai here? Has she been assigned to another team to lead recruits?”

At these words, both Lui Fei and Lu Changkong fell silent simultaneously, the joy disappearing from their faces.
