Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 708, The Devouring Dragon King’s Conditions

Lu Fan harboured deep resentment towards the Fallen Corpse Ancient God.

After all, it was precisely because of its existence that Tu Jing and the Griffin Legion had to maintain their year-round station here, enduring the bitterly cold and harsh weather.

Even more tragically, many Dragon Country soldiers had been killed by it, like Li Luo and Shen Cai, who died tragically, buried here forever in the frosty snow.

If possible, Lu Fan wanted to eliminate the Fallen Corpse Ancient God, ensuring it would slumber like the Divine Bone Ancient God for millions of years before awakening.

Thinking of this, Lu Fan’s heart stirred. Using his spiritual connection, he established mental communication with the Devouring Dragon King, inquiring about her perspective on this Ancient God.

If the Two Headed Dragon and the others came over, would they be able to strangle the Fallen Corpse Ancient God in its cradle, just like they had done with the Divine Bone Ancient God?

If they could truly resolve this Ancient God, wouldn’t Humanity face one fewer enemy in the future?

However, the Devouring Dragon King’s response left him utterly disappointed.

“You want to kill it while the Ancient God hasn’t awakened? Stop dreaming. Ancient Gods are existences that won’t allow anyone to kill them so easily. They have two forms: first is the Slumber Form, second is the Awakened Form.”

“In Slumber Form, they are invincible existences. Although they cannot attack or move, they also won’t receive any Damage. This Mechanics basically exists at the highest level. Even Eternal Phase Giant Dragons cannot change it. In other words, if an Ancient God had not awakened, it’s impossible to kill.”

“The reason we managed to kill the Divine Bone Ancient God last time was because it had prematurely entered its Awakened Form. But this Ancient God before us is still in Slumber Form. If you want to kill it, forget about those four Giant Dragons in your Territory, even a Dragon King like me would not be able to do it unless you can find a way to awaken this Ancient God and make it enter its Awakened Form.”

“But this Ancient God is clearly different from that trash called Divine Bone. It has already accumulated enough power. If it awakens now, perhaps only Dragon Kings are of match against it. Despite possessing such power, it still chooses not to awaken. This just shows how cautious it is. So, be warned. The more cautious the Ancient God is, the more troublesome it is to deal with. Because when it truly awakens, the apocalypse might genuinely arrive.”

The Devouring Dragon King’s words cast a shadow over Lu Fan’s heart.

[Are we only able to wait for this Fallen Corpse Ancient God to truly grow into a catastrophe before we can kill it? This Mechanics of Ancient Gods is simply too Heaven Defying. To fight them, one had to wait for them to fully mature. To attempt killing them early, one would be blocked by the Mechanics. What kind of bullshit is this!?]

Just as Lu Fan felt frustrated, the Devouring Dragon King continued. “But, while I cannot directly kill an Ancient God, I can find ways to kill its followers. For instance, that behemoth is not far ahead of you. Its identity is actually quite special. It’s the Ancient God’s exclusive Mount, with status second only to the Ancient God itself, far stronger than Puppets of the Ancient God. It’s also in its Slumber Form, but with my Dragon King powers, I can overpower its Mechanics, awaken it prematurely, then kill it.”

“You’re referring to the Blood Moon’s Owner? It’s just a Mount!?” Lu Fan was surprised.

The Devouring Dragon King replied: “Of course. If the Ancient God awakens and it awakens alongside it, it would make the Ancient God even stronger. But if I kill this Mount before the Ancient God awakens, then when the Ancient God awakens, its strength would be partially affected.”

Lu Fan immediately said. “In that case, you should strike first and kill the Blood Moon’s Owner.”

“That won’t do.” Unexpectedly, the Devouring Dragon King refused. “This Mount isn’t some ordinary being. How could it be killed so easily? If it truly awakens, those four Giant Dragons in your Territory would barely be able to suppress it.”

“It’s that strong!?” Lu Fan was flabbergasted.

Four Giant Dragons could only barely suppress the Blood Moon’s Owner. From the Devouring Dragon King’s tone, to actually kill it, even four Giant Dragons working together would find it extremely difficult to pull off.

Such Combat Power had already exceeded what Lu Fan could participate in.

The Devouring Dragon King added. “Of course. If it weren’t that strong, how could it qualify as an Ancient God’s Mount?! To kill it, you would need the strength of a Dragon King. I do have the strength to kill it, but I have not fully recovered yet. If I awaken it now, I might not necessarily be its match.”

Lu Fan frowned. “Then what should we do about this? According to what you’re saying, as time passes and the Ancient God accumulates more power, their strength after awakening would only grow stronger. Looking at the Blood Moon’s Owner’s current state, it probably won’t be long before it and the Ancient God awakens. When that time comes, it’ll be very difficult to resist them.”

“What to do?” The Devouring Dragon King said. “What else can be done? Hurry up and let my injuries recover! Later, when the Life Dragon King’s Life Fruit matures, you help me obtain one. That should allow my injuries to recover quickly. Then, I should be able to deal with this Mount.”

“After killing it, we can only wait and see when the Ancient God is willing to awaken. No one can interfere with this, and we can only leave it to fate.”

“Give you a Life Fruit?” Lu Fan hesitated after hearing this.

After all, Life Fruits were extremely precious. They could become Baby Dragons in the future.

Although the Life Dragon King now produced Life Fruits faster than before, at most it was only two or three per year.

Giving one to the Devouring Dragon King seemed rather wasteful.

“What, you’re unwilling!?” The Devouring Dragon King was somewhat displeased. “I’m going to have a decisive battle with an Ancient God’s Mount, and you won’t even spare a single Life Fruit?”

“Since that’s the case, I can’t be bothered with this matter. I’ll just continue slowly healing in your Pet Sub-Space. But I’ll say this upfront. In the future, when the Ancient God awakens completely, regardless of whether our agreement has been fulfilled, you must release our contract. After all, I don’t want to die alongside you because you died in battle.”

After thinking for a moment, Lu Fan said. “Don’t put it that way. It’s not that I’m unwilling, I’m just worried…”

The Devouring Dragon King understood, sneering coldly. “You’re worried I’m deceiving you?”

Lu Fan did not say it but he essentially acknowledged it.

The Devouring Dragon King coldly snorted. “Fine then. If you don’t trust me, so be it. I maintain what I said. I’ve already told you the method. How you choose is your decision to make.”
