Chapter 576 - 559: Riding Saddle?
Chapter 576: Chapter 559: Riding Saddle?

Da Ming soared into the sky.

Mu Ying, ”!”

Da Ming’s flight was indeed impressive; it was solely focused on showing its master its extraordinary flying skills and became a streak of lightning due to its speed.

But its poor master was caught off guard, her mouth filled with wind and her hair painfully slapping her face, leaving her unable to speak.

Moreover, although Da Ming’s back was spacious, maintaining a steady grip during high-speed flight was not easy.

Mu Ying held tightly onto Da Ming’s neck, but she could only clasp it halfway, her entire body lying on top of it. Even then, she felt at every moment that she was about to fall off.

There was no helping it; Da Ming was too excited, and its feathers were too smooth.

Mu Ying didn’t dare to hold on too tight, fearing that it would hurt or even pluck its feathers.

One of Da Ming’s claws was missing a talon, and although it always tried to be the bravest in the Griffin Shed and trained desperately, deep down it felt somewhat insecure, always worried that it was too weak and that Mu Ying would look down on it. After realizing that Mu Ying liked fluffy things, it always cherished its feathers, keeping them sleek and shiny. Losing a single feather would cause it great distress, making it the most image-conscious Griffin in the shed.

Only now did Mu Ying understand why Zheng Jing had asked her to accompany Da Ming for training.

Riding a Griffin was worlds apart from sitting on a Flying Carpet or riding a broom.

Now on Da Ming’s back, not to mention Spell Casting, she found it hard even to keep steady.

She could feel that Da Ming was very happy and excited, and she didn’t want to dampen its enthusiasm, but when it performed a high-difficulty dive from high altitude, Mu Ying still couldn’t keep her balance and rolled off.

Luckily, she had quite a few flying methods by then, and the moment she fell, she transformed into a little Owl.

When Da Ming felt the emptiness on its back, its attention was completely diverted, leading to a moment of panic. Its confident flying posture was thrown off, and it rushed towards the ground. If it continued like this, it would crash into the ground.

”gehe~” Mu Owl Ying quickly called out, signaling her safety.

Only then did Da Ming calm down, quickly regained control of its body, and landed steadily on the ground.

Mu Ying landed shortly after and reverted to her human form.

The first test flight had failed, and Da Ming was completely dejected, its crestfallen feathers lost their luster.

Mu Ying patted it, ”This is just the beginning, falling off is normal! Let’s try again!”

Da Ming nodded, acknowledging that it hadn’t taken proper care of its master last time. This time it would be more careful.

Mu Ying stepped back to prepare for the next takeoff.

From a distance, Zheng Jing reacted and hurried over, ”Hey, wait! You haven’t put on the saddle yet!”

The normal procedure included using climbing aids and a special saddle.

But their Lord had just mounted so stylishly that Zheng Jing hadn’t had the chance to speak before they took off.

Thankfully, the Lord could fly on her own, preventing any safety accidents.

”Saddle?” Mu Ying suddenly remembered the work reports she had seen from the Breeding Camp; indeed, there was an item about custom saddles.

”We’ve prepared mostly cabin-shaped saddles; there are fewer riding saddles. A cabin-shaped saddle can secure almost fully enclosed cabin to the Griffin’s body for transporting goods or passengers.

Riding saddles, on the other hand, are open-style, similar to horse saddles and can secure a person on the Griffin’s back to prevent slipping off. With the assistance of a saddle, riding is much easier.”

Zheng Jing took her to the adjacent warehouse and picked out a single-person simple riding saddle for her: ”The saddles in the warehouse are all made from fairly ordinary materials. They have a high cost-performance ratio but aren’t very good-looking. Later, you can have a specialized riding saddle made for you.”

Mu Ying looked at the leg bindings and the multitude of buckles on the saddle: ”Won’t this be cumbersome for Da Ming when it’s tied to him?”

Zheng Jing nodded: ”It will slightly affect the Griffin’s flight speed, but it’s not a big issue. Griffins fly very fast, and unlike the cabin-shaped saddles, riding saddles are also affected by high-altitude winds. Without a saddle to bind the rider and the Griffin together, there’s a very high chance of falling off.”

After thinking it over, Mu Ying decided: ”I’ll try to see if I can stabilize myself on Da Ming’s back without a saddle first. If it doesn’t work, I’ll use this one.”

Aside from adding extra weight to Da Ming, a saddle could also affect its agility. Although the impact wouldn’t be significant, she viewed Da Ming not as a mount for travel but as one to assist her in aerial combat!

Although she could cast spells while sitting on a Magic Flying Carpet, it could block the line of sight of non-witches, which was helpful against enemies like Cold Deer. However, there were situations requiring her to show herself in battle, like in the Beastman Wilderness or during group fights, where it wouldn’t be suitable. Besides, she didn’t want to reveal the existence of the Magic Flying Carpet too soon.

Moreover, spell casting required concentration, and controlling the Magic Flying Carpet to change directions also demanded mental effort. When casting spells while sitting on the Magic Flying Carpet, she had to complete the spell-casting first, and then control the carpet’s movement; she couldn’t cast spells and control the carpet’s movement simultaneously.

Da Ming could perfectly complement her offensive methods in this regard. Since she needed to cooperate with it in combat, its agility was very important. Moreover, binding her legs to the saddle during battle could actually be a hindrance if she needed to detach from Da Ming quickly. Hence, it was better not to use a saddle if possible.

”The wind resistance during high-speed flight is too great; it’s very difficult to stabilize the body!”

Zheng Jing was still trying to persuade her, but Mu Ying waved her hand: ”Don’t worry, I have a way!”

A Wind-Proof Magic spell could solve the issue.

Traces of this magic were evident on both Magic Flying Carpets and flying brooms.

She had been too hasty in her previous flight without thinking it through; that wouldn’t happen this time!

Mu Ying once again jumped onto Da Ming’s back, a dark red thorny magic wand appearing in her hand. The wand’s tip traced around her body, setting up a Wind-Proof Magic spell on Da Ming’s back.

”All right, Da Ming, let’s do this again!” Mu Ying was ready.

Da Ming nodded and took off again, but this time it didn’t fly as recklessly or decisively as before.

The takeoff was noticeably slower, and it was no longer solely focused on showcasing its flying skills but also paid some attention to Mu Ying on its back.

It never wanted to repeat the situation where its Master slid off without it even realizing.

The Master being able to fly on her own was her ability; as a mount, it was its duty to ensure the safety of its Master!

This time, Mu Ying was much steadier.

Without the interference of the fierce wind, and relying on her balance ability and body control, it wasn’t difficult to stay secure on Da Ming’s back, as long as she adjusted her body’s center of gravity in time according to Da Ming’s flying posture.

The difference was like riding a motorcycle versus riding in a sedan.

This time she truly adopted a normal riding posture instead of sprawling over Da Ming’s body, too afraid to even lift her head.

It was only now that she truly felt the joy of riding a Big Griffin! Honestly, it was even better than sitting on a Flying Carpet!
