I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 568 - 551: Public Opinion Attack
Chapter 568: Chapter 551: Public Opinion Attack

After having arranged the order for learning spells, Mu Ying didn’t rush to start studying them right away. She wanted to first get rid of all the Cold Deer to feel at ease. Even without using level 6 spells, she was confident she could handle the Cold Deer.

Before setting off, she took advantage of mealtime to glance at the World Forum.

Seeing the forum discussions about her leveling up once a day, she simply laughed it off without any response.

”This is just the beginning!” Mu Ying shook her head. There were still plenty of Cold Deer left, and she expected the pace of her leveling up to increase sharply. She hoped people wouldn’t be too surprised.

She quickly skipped over the messages about her and deliberately looked for posts mentioning the Northwest Snowfield.

It had been exactly one week since she started hunting the Cold Deer, and she wondered how they had reacted and whether they had guessed the ’culprit.’

Although she had concealed her tracks the last time she went out, even avoiding the tiniest probability of being divined by riding on the Flying Carpet during the hunt and cleaning up the battlefield, ensuring she never touched the snow.

But on the day she killed the Cold Deer, she conveniently leveled up, and because she went back to level up, she didn’t show up for a long time. Meanwhile, the number of Cold Deer had stopped decreasing. Such an obvious coincidence in timing, even though she had deliberately flown south on her broom first as a smokescreen, with the issue having fermented for so long and the Cold Deer being so intelligent, the possibility that they guessed it was her was not small. What would their response be?

Mu Ying was prepared for their reaction when she saw the post that was rapidly gaining heat and slandering her; she wasn’t surprised.

The title of the post was certainly provocative: ”Mu Ying’s killing spree continues, hunting the friends of humanity, a disgrace to the Druids. What wrong did the Snow Mountain Guardian God do? We, the players of the Snowfield, demand an explanation!”

She clicked in with interest and saw that the poster thoroughly detailed the help the Snow Mountain Guardian God provided to the Snowfield players, with writings full of legend and portraying the Cold Deer as synonymous with kindness. The reader couldn’t help but feel goodwill towards them, and then, the post took a sharp turn, mentioning how she, Mu Ying, had cruelly killed nineteen Cold Deer in one day for an unknown purpose. The post lashed out at her brutality, stressing that these Cold Deer had once helped humanity and were now being mercilessly slain for no reason, which was utterly infuriating.

It also stated that even so, the Cold Deer, remembering their friendship with humans, simply wanted to reconcile with her, asking her to apologize for her actions and return the bodies of their kin.

But those who were shielded by the Cold Deer and struggled to survive in the apocalypse didn’t want to be ungrateful. They strongly demanded an explanation from her; otherwise, they were ready to spend all their savings to teleport to Qingshan City and confront her for an answer.

”Tch, quite well-written, whoever wrote this knows how to stir people’s emotions. It’d be a waste not to go into public relations,” Mu Ying remarked after reading.

By first praising the Cold Deer, then describing her cruelty, the writer knew the art of tragedy, showing the destruction of good things, making her, the ”murderer,” an object of universal condemnation.

What’s the aim here? To use public opinion to make her yield?

Moreover, the post described the process of her killing in such detail, it made her unaware of her own strength, able to face multiple Cold Deer alone and leisurely sever their tendons, skinning them alive amidst their pleas, making her, who only dared to ambush, feel embarrassed by the exaggerated gap. She was quite thankful for their overestimation of her power.

What was more interesting was that the post had only been published not long ago. No wonder, given the content and the speed at which it was heating up, she had to flip through two pages just to see it!

The Cold Deer had been dead for a week now. If it weren’t for her cleaning up the battlefield and storing the bodies in her Storage Pouch, which would have already started to smell, how could they be posting about it so late? They couldn’t possibly have just realized it was her, could they?

Furthermore, the post didn’t mention anywhere that the nineteen Cold Deer died in one day; instead, it insinuated that they died one after the other. The Cold Deer were depicted as defenseless and pitiable creatures, who were compelled to ask other players to negotiate on their behalf.

She’d never believe that Cold Deer didn’t intentionally spread those details. They must have guessed she was the murderer, but Mu Ying was confident, they had merely guessed. This could be seen from the inconsistent descriptions of the hunting process.

To say it so assertively was simply to frame her, to rally others against her. They also deliberately delayed speaking out because they feared raising her ”ability” due to the spread of the Cold Deer slaying story. This way, they guided others, positioning themselves in a complete disadvantage.

Mu Ying scoffed, ”Not only is Cold Deer white, it also enjoys playing the harmless little white flower, huh?”

Scrolling down, there were quite a few players leading the rhythm in the comments, barrages of abuse everywhere.

”Has Mu Ying become arrogant after leveling up? The Snow Mountain Guardian God is not an ordinary Magic Beast. They are intelligent, able to speak like humans. Apart from different appearances, what’s the difference between them and humans? How can you kill them without a reason?”

”And here the players of Qingshan City are everywhere defending her, saying their Lord is kind-hearted, a bunch of filial children!”

”Mu Ying has been committing murder since the day the apocalypse started. Back then, she even whipped people publicly at the entrance of her territory, cruelly sprinkling salt and chili powder on their wounds.”

”She’s so young, yet she’s like this, scarier than a demon!”

”The Snow Mountain Guardian God has lost its kin and has been particularly grieving these days, barely leaving the Snow Mountain. Many players who went out to hunt Snow Beasts haven’t returned. If not for Mu Ying, they definitely could have been saved. How is this any different from indirect murder?”

”Mu Ying’s leveling up so fast, could it be because she has some vicious method? Why else wouldn’t she speak out?”

”The players of Qingshan City better run fast. At this rate, she’ll soon become the public enemy of the world. Who knows when her territory will disappear.”

”Oh my god, is it that terrifying? I just saved up enough for travel expenses to Qingshan City!”

”The person above had better wait and see. Given how cruel the Lord is, the territory might not be as advertised on the forum.”

...

Mu Ying casually read some comments and said speechlessly, ”They don’t think this can actually affect me, do they?”

She didn’t rely on others for her current strength, and her territory didn’t thrive because she pandered to people’s hearts. It had grown so well because she had earned it step by step. Even if some people were influenced by these comments, it wouldn’t cause her any serious trouble.

She wasn’t like Cold Deer, who painstakingly managed their reputation and deceived people with their renown.

Even if some people were swayed by these comments, they wouldn’t pose any threat to her, at most affecting the population growth rate of her territory.

But so what? It was better for those who couldn’t think clearly to back off. It might not be a bad thing for her territory. She should even thank them for screening out the talent for her!
