Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Chapter 146: Chapter 120: When Love Deepens, To My Surprise...

Zhao Rong followed the security captain into Area A of the canteen. When he saw that all the stalls sold noodles, he immediately felt relieved.

Miss Lili, Yu Lan, and Xuelian are rich young ladies who love exotic delicacies, abalone, and bird’s nest soup, Zhao Rong thought. They’d never come to a place like this that sells mediocre noodles.

Reassured, Zhao Rong followed the security captain and calmly took a seat. Just then, Miss Lili happened to walk into the canteen, accompanied by Yu Lan and Xuelian. As she walked, she explained to her two best friends, ”We’ve been eating so much rich food lately; it’s time for a change of pace. Today, let’s try what Zhao Rong calls the ’world’s number one noodles,’ the Qishan Minced Meat Noodles...”

Hearing that Lili was leading them to try something new, Yu Lan said excitedly, ”Lili, that’s great! We should definitely try different things every day.”

Xuelian also chimed in happily, ”I’ve heard the Qishan Minced Meat Noodles are delicious. Let’s go try them.”

The three young women entered the canteen and headed straight for Area A. As Miss Lili was at the counter buying noodles, Yu Lan suddenly thought of Zhao Rong. ”Miss Lili, we should have invited Zhao Rong to join us. He’s in the security room.”

Xuelian agreed. ”You’re right. Zhao Rong loves noodles more than anyone. How could we come here to eat noodles without him?”

With that, Xuelian immediately pulled out her phone and made a call.

At that moment, Zhao Rong, who was sitting in the middle of Area A waiting for the security captain’s cousin, Wang Meili, heard his phone ring and quickly answered. The canteen was so crowded and noisy that even though they were all in Area A, Zhao Rong and the three women didn’t hear each other’s phones ring.

Seeing it was a call from Xuelian, Zhao Rong picked up. ”Zhao Rong, have you eaten yet?” she asked.

Zhao Rong glanced at the bustling canteen. ”I’m in the canteen right now,” he replied.

Hearing this, Xuelian exclaimed excitedly, ”You’re here too? Miss Lili, Yu Lan, and I are also in the canteen! Why don’t you come over and eat with us?”

Though surprised, Zhao Rong tried to reassure himself. It can’t be such a coincidence,

he told himself. Even if Miss Lili, Yu Lan, and Xuelian are in the canteen, they wouldn’t be in Area A. None of them like noodles. So, Zhao Rong shook his head and said into the phone, ”Xuelian, you guys go ahead. I’m not a fan of exotic delicacies, abalone, or bird’s nest soup. Right now, I’m in the canteen’s...”

He was cut off mid-sentence when he suddenly spotted three familiar figures standing at a counter not far from him. Zhao Rong’s blood ran cold. What rotten luck! I finally get a chance to go on a blind date with a pretty girl, and of all places, I run into Miss Lili, Yu Lan, and Xuelian in Area A? Is heaven itself conspiring against me?

Hearing him stop talking abruptly, Xuelian quickly asked, ”Zhao Rong, which area of the canteen are you in? We’ll come find you right now.”

Hearing that the three women were about to come looking for him, Zhao Rong turned pale and hastily made an excuse. ”Look, I’m in the canteen, but I’m suddenly not hungry anymore. I’m actually about to head back to the security room.”

”Oh,” Xuelian said, disappointed. ”I really thought you were here in Area A with us. What a letdown...”

After hanging up, Zhao Rong wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and deliberately tugged the brim of his security cap down to hide his face. The security captain, sitting across from him, noticed his strange behavior. ”Zhao Rong, my cousin is here. Why are you hiding your face? Aren’t you afraid she won’t be able to see you and the blind date will be a bust?”

As he spoke, the security captain stood up and waved to a woman who had just entered the canteen. ”Wang Meili! Over here! We’re right here!”

Zhao Rong looked up and saw a tall woman in a long white dress walking toward them. She carried a book under her arm and had an ethereal aura about her. She’s not just a top student; she’s a goddess, he mused as he watched her approach.

Wang Meili walked over and sat down opposite him. Just as the security captain was about to stand up and make introductions, Zhao Rong and Wang Meili’s eyes met. They both exclaimed in shock, ”It’s you?”

The security captain froze. He looked at his cousin. ”You know Zhao Rong?” Then he turned to Zhao Rong. ”You know my cousin?”

Looking at Wang Meili in astonishment, Zhao Rong said, ”Wang Meili, weren’t you the village belle who was bedridden and couldn’t be woken?”

Wang Meili looked back at him. ”Zhao Rong, aren’t you the young hero from the True Martial Sect? The one who came to our village to refine medicine? My mother saw you and invited you to our home. You crafted a Rejuvenation Pill there and saved my life!”

Overcome with emotion, they impulsively hugged each other.

Seeing his cousin embracing his colleague, the security captain awkwardly separated them. ”Hey, there are a lot of people in here. Could you two tone it down? This is supposed to be a blind date. You can’t just start hugging and kissing.”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong quickly released Wang Meili. Damn, I got carried away and lost control. We actually kissed...

After they both sat down, Zhao Rong looked at Wang Meili in amazement. ”Meili, didn’t you used to be the village belle? How did you suddenly end up at Xi Jing University in an integrated bachelor’s-master’s-doctoral program?”

Wang Meili smiled. ”Heaven is fair. After sleeping for several years, I woke up, and in my first year, I aced the college entrance exam and got into this school. I even managed to secure one of the few spots in the integrated program.”

Hearing that Wang Meili was not only beautiful but also brilliant, Zhao Rong gave her a thumbs-up. ”Wang Meili, I had no idea. You’re truly incredible.”

Wang Meili looked at him emotionally. ”What’s so incredible about me? You’re the one who’s truly incredible... Have you forgotten the promise my mother made?”

Zhao Rong paused, thinking back. ”When your mother pulled me into your house, I think she said... if I could save you, she would have you marry me.”

Tears streamed down Wang Meili’s face when she heard that he remembered. ”But after you left, I stood at the village entrance every single day, waiting and watching... But I never saw you return for me in a grand bridal sedan...”

Listening to her, Zhao Rong felt deeply apologetic. The truth was, he had his own unshareable burdens. When he had first promised her mother he would save Wang Meili, he never actually thought his meager medical skills would work. So, when he succeeded and her mother insisted on the marriage, Zhao Rong was at a complete loss.

After all, Zhao Rong was already a hot commodity. Three different families were hoping he would marry their daughters. There was the chairman of Hongda Company, Lili’s father, who wanted him to marry Lili. There was the former Sect Leader of the True Martial Sect, Mage Yizhen, who wanted him to marry his daughter, Tao Hua. And now, there was Wang Meili’s mother. On top of that, Yu Lan and Xuelian were also determined to marry him.

Being too outstanding a man wasn’t necessarily a good thing. Faced with so many choices, he had no idea where to even start. What’s more, he was constantly monitored, hindered, and restrained by the various girls, which was why he was still a virgin.

When the security captain overheard that his cousin was already promised to Zhao Rong, he was stunned. He sighed in amazement. ”Damn, I guess some matches really are made in heaven. Bringing my cousin and my colleague Zhao Rong together today was a complete accident. But this accident allowed my love-struck cousin to fulfill her dream of meeting her savior.”

Zhao Rong looked at Wang Meili, thought for a moment, and said, ”Meili, we’re still young. Our lives are just beginning, and we’re just starting our careers. It’s too early to talk about marriage. Besides, you’re only eighteen, and the legal age for marriage is twenty. Why don’t we start as friends and conquer the world together?”

Wang Meili understood completely. Zhao Rong was, after all, a man with immense ambition, always striving to climb higher. She nodded. ”Zhao Rong, I’ll wait for you.”

”Keep it up,” Zhao Rong said, trying to comfort her. ”Your studies are important. You’re a top student in an advanced program, while I’m just a lowly security guard. There’s already a gap between our statuses. I hope my appearance in your life won’t affect your studies.”

Wang Meili nodded. ”It won’t, Zhao Rong. I’ll study hard, especially for you. But...”

The ”but” caught Zhao Rong off guard. ”But what?”

Wang Meili pointed toward a doctoral student who had been persistently following her. ”That guy’s name is Wang Chao. He’s a PhD student in my department, and he’s confessed to me ten times already. But I like guys like you, not guys like him. He just won’t stop pestering me...”

Zhao Rong followed her gaze and saw a man who wasn’t old but was already balding. A man with a rosy mouth but a full set of sharp-looking teeth. A man who was clearly Chinese but somehow looked a bit foreign. This so-called doctoral student was leering at Wang Meili, his eyes fixed on her without even blinking.

Just then, Miss Lili, Yu Lan, and Xuelian, each carrying a bowl of Qishan Minced Meat Noodles, began walking toward the center of Area A.

Seeing the three women heading straight for him, Zhao Rong froze. That’s it, I’m done for. There’s nowhere to hide now...
