Urban Martial Saint

Zhao Chengshuang awkwardly lowered his head. The old lady was Lin Zhen Nan’s mother, the only surviving elder of the Lin family, holding an extremely high status within the family. No one dared to defy her words, not even Lin Zhen Nan.

Boss Lin could only be considered a branch of the Lin family, with not much blood relation to the old lady. However, when he was young and before the Lin family rose to prominence, it was the old lady who raised him, which made her exceedingly indulgent towards him. Zhao Chengshuang knew that once the old lady stepped in, she would definitely take Boss Lin’s side.

What he didn’t expect was her support to be so comprehensive, leaving him unable to ask any further questions.

The middle-aged beautiful woman whispered beside her, ”Mom, rumors don’t come out of thin air and there must be a reason behind them. We can’t just believe Chengshuang’s unilateral story, nor can we just listen to Xiao Linzi alone. Shouldn’t we investigate this matter?”

The old lady glared at her, angrily saying, ”Investigate what? What, do you also not trust our own people from the Lin family?”

The middle-aged beautiful woman didn’t dare say another word, only helplessly glancing at Zhao Chengshuang.

Zhao Chengshuang sat awkwardly in his wheelchair, facing the strong-willed old lady, he had nothing to say.

Boss Lin supported the old lady, appearing submissive and eager to please, the picture of a good man. Seeing him like this, Zhao Chengshuang’s anger surged uncontrollably. Unwilling to stay any longer, he said, ”Auntie, since it has nothing to do with Brother Lin, I should get back to investigating this matter.”

The old lady said, ”Oh, the moment I show up, you’re ready to leave. It seems like you don’t respect me much!”

Zhao Chengshuang was extremely embarrassed and hastily said, ”Auntie, I’m not disrespecting you. It’s just that things are busy over there, and I... I need to rush back and handle my duties.”

”Hmph, your department really has no one else, does it? You’re injured this badly and still have so much work waiting for you to get back. It seems you’re too busy being a policeman!” The old lady waved her hand and said, ”Fine, since you’re so busy, I won’t keep you. But when you do find the time, remember to come and see this old woman, lest one day I pass away and you never get to see me again!”

Zhao Chengshuang was left half in tears and half in laughter. The old lady’s words were always so harsh, but he dared not retaliate and could only respond with silence.

The middle-aged beautiful woman came over and said, ”Mom, Chengshuang has really been quite busy these past few days; I’ll take him out.”

The middle-aged beautiful woman consoled Zhao Chengshuang, ”Chengshuang, don’t be angry with Auntie. Xiao Linzi is after all someone she raised, and she doesn’t want to believe that he would commit such atrocious acts. She may favor Xiao Linzi a bit, but deep down, she is kind-hearted.”

”I know, it’s just that...” Zhao Chengshuang trailed off with a heavy sigh and didn’t continue.

He wanted to speak of Boss Lin’s dealings with using disabled people and children to beg, but he guessed that the middle-aged beautiful woman was already aware and simply couldn’t intervene due to the old lady’s indulgence. Therefore, he didn’t say anything more, as it would only add to her troubles.

After sending Zhao Chengshuang off, the middle-aged beautiful woman returned to the living room to find Boss Lin dutifully massaging and kneading the old lady’s shoulders and legs. Boss Lin wasn’t well-liked in the Lin family, but the old lady’s fondness for him was his saving grace. If not for her indulgence, Lin Zhen Nan wouldn’t even allow him to enter the house.

Boss Lin himself also knew how to ingratiate himself in front of the old lady, and despite doing many bad deeds over the years, he remained unscathed.

Seeing the middle-aged beautiful woman enter, the old lady, with her eyes half-closed, asked, ”Did you see him out?”

”Yes,” the middle-aged beautiful woman replied, sitting down beside the old lady and softly saying, ”Chengshuang has changed quite a lot in the end, becoming much more responsible than before.”

The old lady sniffed disdainfully, ”Humph, what use is that responsibility? Look at those people from the Zhao family, each one more violent than the last. I heard that the other night, Zhao Jianjun even took troops to the police station to get someone out. Is that something a sane person would do? Are you protecting the people’s army or the Zhao family’s army?

Whatever you desire, do you even know what the law means?”

The middle-aged beautiful woman was silent, knowing that Zhao Jianjun had indeed acted rashly. Yet the situation at that time was critical, and he had to do what he did. However, both the old lady and Lin Zhen Nan shared the same mindset. They wouldn’t consider the purpose behind Zhao Jianjun’s actions, but rather the consequences.

In their eyes, the Zhao family were all hotheads, which was the main reason for the strained relationship between Lin Zhen Nan and the Zhao family.

”Little aunt,” Boss Lin said, ”since you’re here, let me be frank. That night, I indeed didn’t call Chengshuang. Why not? I received news that Ye Qing killed several people at North Huanqian Bay Bar. Ordinary matters could be overlooked, but this was a major issue of murder; anyone involved would be unlucky. I was considering Chengshuang’s well-being, that’s why I didn’t call.

But unexpectedly, he still learned about it, and Uncle Zhao even went to the police station to bail someone out. Alas, this issue has blown up big. I did it for Chengshuang’s sake, but now he misunderstands me, making all my efforts seem unappreciated!”

The old lady said, ”Enough, stay out of these matters in the future. The Zhao family has the means and the power, let them do as they please. It’s not your place to intervene. Even if they turn Shenchuan City upside down, as long as they can cover it up, it has nothing to do with you!”

The middle-aged beautiful woman remained silent, always taking Boss Lin’s words with a grain of salt, so she didn’t believe he truly had Zhao Chengshuang’s interests at heart.

Suddenly, the old lady said, ”By the way, wasn’t it said that Ye Qing killed many people? How did he get released from the police station?”

Boss Lin said, ”It seems someone pulled some strings for him at the provincial office, which issued a direct order for his release.”

”No need to say, it must be the Zhao family’s doing,” the old lady waved off the topic and said, ”Those people from the Zhao family, no matter how old they get, why are they so reckless? This was a serious matter, and you still dare to help a murderer, what on earth are they thinking?”

Hearing the old lady say this, Boss Lin’s heart was secretly delighted and he said, ”Who knows? Look, not even a day after getting out, he’s already causing trouble at my uncle’s company. Was Cheng Shuang just here to beg for Ye Qing’s sake?”

”Beg? Our Lin family certainly doesn’t lack the discipline theirs does!” The old lady said indignantly, slapping her hand, ”Tell Zhen Nan, this person must be punished severely. Someone dared to kidnap Hua Yu last time; now, someone’s causing trouble at Lin Corporation. Do they think that our Lin family is not to be taken seriously?

If we don’t kill one to warn the others this time, won’t people step on our heads in the future?”

A flash of joy surged in Boss Lin’s eyes, but no one in the room noticed.

Boss Lin stayed for a while longer before leaving. Not long after driving away from the Lin residence, he eagerly took out his phone and called Yang Shitao.

”Boss Yang, big news!” Boss Lin said anxiously, ”I just got word from my grandmother; the Lin family is planning to utterly destroy that Ye surname. I think, once Ye Qing goes in, he won’t be thinking about coming out!”

Yang Shitao said, ”Ye has connections in the provincial office; he won’t be so easy to deal with, will he?”

Boss Lin said arrogantly, ”What about the provincial office? If my uncle wants to deal with that Ye surname, the provincial office can’t protect him!”

Yang Shitao was quite annoyed by Boss Lin’s tone, but he had to admit that Lin Zhen Nan truly had the power.

Boss Lin paused for a moment, then spoke in a low voice, ”However, it’s probably impossible for those cops to take him down now. Everyone in the Shenchuan City Police Department knows about what happened the day before yesterday, they all know that Ye Qing has strong backing in the provincial office, so surely no one would dare touch him. To deal with him, we’ll have to think of another method!”

”What method?” Yang Shitao asked.

Boss Lin said, ”Ye Qing will surely stay in detention tonight. We can find some people inside to kill him!”

Yang Shitao said in a cold voice, ”Ye isn’t useless. You think you can just kill him like that?”

”It’s not difficult,” Boss Lin chuckled, ”I know of a drug that, once taken, will leave him weak all over for at least ten hours. We get him to take it, and then tonight, we find some people to suffocate him with a blanket. It’s very easy.”

Yang Shitao was silent for a while, then said, ”To kill him like that, it’s really too wasteful.”

Boss Lin replied, ”Boss Yang, Ye isn’t simple. If he gets out, we can’t do anything about him. Your goal is to get revenge, to have him dead. Why bother with the risk of complications?”

Yang Shitao said, ”Alright, do as you say. Have someone record it; I want to see him die with my own eyes!”

”No problem!” Boss Lin laughed and hung up the phone, leaning back in the car seat, and said, ”Ye, in this Shenchuan City, you ultimately can’t beat me, haha...”

As Boss Lin said, Ye Qing was now locked up in detention.

In two days, he had been to the police station twice, and Ye Qing had already adapted to the environment.

He sat against the wall, quietly recalling everything he had done since coming to Shenchuan City. His way of handling things was exactly the same as when he was in the military. However, it seemed that this approach simply didn’t work in Shenchuan City.

This modern city was far more dangerous than the battlefields of the borderlands. Those successful individuals, in their immaculate attire, were far more terrifying than any desperado. Using the methods he employed against those desperados to confront these so-called successful individuals was obviously wrong. To deal with them, it seemed he’d have to find another way.

But what method should he use against these people?

Ye Qing sat in contemplation for two hours, his mind ceaselessly pondering this matter. Meanwhile, no police came to interrogate him; it was as if he had been forgotten.

It wasn’t until evening that the door to the detention room opened and a guard passed in some food, saying, ”Time to eat.”

Feeling hungry, Ye Qing went over to pick up the meal. As he ate, he continued to ponder the previous question. To survive in this city, he had to adapt to it and find the right methods to solve problems within this urban environment!

However, he was unaware that a huge crisis was already quietly enveloping him. The food he was eating had been drugged.
