Urban Martial Saint

Chen Tianyao had been in the force for a long time with a lot of seniority. He was even older than Deng Liyang and close to retirement, with no hope for promotion. Therefore, he had never had much fondness for Deng Liyang, who was much younger than himself.

Now that Zhao Chengshuang had brought up Deng Liyang, Chen Tianyao was even more furious. Not only did he show no respect for Deng Liyang, but he also directly ordered Zhao Chengshuang to leave.

Zhao Chengshuang frowned, thinking he would have encountered Nian Hongcai here. Frankly speaking, Nian Hongcai was somewhat easier to deal with than Chen Tianyao. Chen Tianyao was completely inflexible and excessively irritable, and with Ye Qing in his custody, it would be difficult to take him away.

In fact, Nian Hongcai was aware of this, which is why he handed the case to Chen Tianyao. He understood that many people would be running around for this case, and only by giving it to Chen Tianyao could he feel somewhat at ease.

Zhao Chengshuang still wore a smile and said, ”Director Chen, this is an order from Director Deng, please do us a favor!”

”Sorry, I haven’t received any orders!” Chen Tianyao waved his hand dismissively and said, ”Take Captain Zhao to the rest room. He’s not well; don’t let him sit for too long!”

”I’m fine, don’t worry about me!” Ye Qing consoled Zhao Chengshuang and said, ”Please look after Black Bear for me; he’s severely injured, and I’m worried about his safety!”

”Rest assured, nothing will happen to any of you!” Zhao Chengshuang nodded at Ye Qing then anxiously addressed Chen Tianyao, ”Director Chen, this really is an order from Director Deng. Are you intending to disobey?”

Chen Tianyao paid him no heed and kept waving his hand. A policeman at the door approached Zhao Chengshuang and said, ”Captain Zhao, let me escort you.”

With that, without further ado, he pushed Zhao Chengshuang’s wheelchair away and even closed the door behind them.

Outraged, Zhao Chengshuang shouted at the door, ”Chen Tianyao, I warn you. If Ye Qing loses even a single hair, I won’t let this go!”

Inside the room, Chen Tianyao huffed angrily and coldly turned to Ye Qing, saying, ”Your friend seems to care a lot about you, huh? Well, I’m not afraid of him. If I don’t get you to submit tonight, I won’t call myself Chen Tianyao!”

Meanwhile, Zhao Chengshuang was pushed to the rest room, his heart filled with anxiety as he hurriedly dialed Deng Liyang’s number.

Two minutes later, a policeman opened the interrogation room just as Chen Tianyao had pulled out his gun. Startled by the sudden entrance, he frantically tried to put it away. When he saw it was one of his own, he burst out cursing, ”Have you f*cking lost your mind?”

The policeman shrank back, his voice trembling, ”Director Chen, it’s... it’s a call from Director Deng…”

”What?” Chen Tianyao paused and frowned in silence for a while before turning and walking out of the interrogation room.

Picking up the phone on the desk, Chen Tianyao took a deep breath, put on a smile, and said, ”Director Deng, hello, what are your instructions?”

”I heard you’ve detained someone named Ye Qing. I’ve already sent Zhao Chengshuang from the West City Sub-bureau to pick him up. Hand him over to Zhao for processing,” Deng Liyang said directly.

Chen Tianyao had anticipated this situation and smiled slightly, saying, ”Director Deng, is this a personal order from you, or an order from the city bureau?”

”What’s the difference?” Deng Liyang asked sternly.

”If this is a personal order from you, then I am sorry, I can’t comply,” Chen Tianyao said with a smile. ”According to the rules, since he committed the crime in our jurisdiction, we should be the ones handling the case. Unless the leadership of the bureau decides collectively in a meeting to hand over the case to another branch, that would be proper procedure.

Without a joint order from several leaders, I am sorry, but we are police officers, and we must follow the rules!”

Deng Liyang was silent for a moment and then said, ”Old Chen, you’re right. Well done, really well done!”

Anyone could detect the anger and threat in Deng Liyang’s tone, but Chen Tianyao replied with a light laugh, ”Thank you, Director Deng, for the praise. Actually, if you were in my position, you would do the same, wouldn’t you?”

”Certainly, certainly!” Deng Liyang slowly changed to a chuckle and said, ”Then you go on with your work. Oh, and have Nian Hongcai give me a call later!”

Chen Tianyao smiled and said, ”Sure, no problem. Director Deng, if there’s nothing else, I will go back to the interrogation.”

”Go ahead, you go on,” Deng Liyang said as he hung up the phone, his eyes flashing with a cold glint.

On this end, Chen Tianyao’s lips curled into a cold smile as he slowly hung up the phone. This time, he did not return to the interrogation room but went to another empty room and called Yang Shitao.

Chen Tianyao was acting under Yang Shitao’s direction, which is why he treated Ye Qing so unyieldingly, giving no face to anyone. Without Yang Shitao’s backing, no matter how senior he was, he wouldn’t dare to cross Deng Liyang!

Chen Tianyao repeated what Deng Liyang had just said to Yang Shitao, who, after listening, merely replied coldly, ”Don’t mind him!”

Yang Shitao said this to imply that he had plenty of ways to deal with Deng Liyang. Chen Tianyao was greatly relieved and sneered, ”Boss Yang, rest assured. That Ye will absolutely wish he were dead while he’s here!”

Yang Shitao said coldly, ”Don’t let him die. I still want to personally have a bit of fun with him!”

Chen Tianyao sneered, ”Don’t worry, I will make sure he’s alive to meet you. These two days, I’m just helping the young master recover some interest!”

In the break room, Zhao Chengshuang received a call from Deng Liyang and became so flustered he was running around in circles. Even Deng Liyang himself had called, yet Chen Tianyao refused to give face, which made the situation crystal clear—someone powerful was surely backing Chen Tianyao.

”What about Ye Qing?” Zhao Chengshuang asked anxiously.

Deng Liyang consoled, ”Don’t be nervous. I reckon at worst, Ye Qing will suffer some flesh wounds. He doesn’t have the guts to kill anyone. I’ll bring this up at tomorrow’s meeting and then figure out a way to transfer him to your station.”

Zhao Chengshuang said, ”I can guarantee that it really has nothing to do with him. Director Deng, do you think this case could be related to that last explosion incident at the square? It definitely wasn’t Ye Qing who planted the bomb, someone else is framing him!”

Deng Liyang replied, ”Let’s talk about all that after the investigation. However, many people at the scene saw your friend kill someone. I’m afraid that will be difficult to handle. Alright, you go back first. This issue needs to be resolved slowly, it can’t be rushed.”

After hanging up the phone, Zhao Chengshuang sighed deeply. In truth, this was the most problematic issue. Even if the bomb wasn’t planted by Ye Qing, the murder was still hard to shake off.

Sitting silently in the break room for a while, Zhao Chengshuang suddenly remembered what Ye Qing had said and hastily instructed others to wheel him out.

Black Bear was in another interrogation room. This room was different from Ye Qing’s; perhaps because Black Bear’s injuries were so severe, there were no guards outside.

Zhao Chengshuang had his accompanying personnel push open the door of the interrogation room and happened upon a scene that infuriated him.

Inside the room, three police officers were surrounding a big man lying on the ground covered in blood. The man had an impressive and sturdy frame but was now in a sorry state. One officer was stepping on his face while the other two were pressing their feet against his wounds.

The big man’s previously dressed wounds had burst open again, gushing fresh blood due to the intense pain that twisted his face. However, he didn’t make a sound, just biting his teeth and enduring it, occasionally coughing up some blood foams. With such severe injuries, his internal organs damaged, if he wasn’t taken for medical treatment soon, he would be in real danger.

Yet these officers were tormenting him like this, targeting his wounds, obviously intent on taking his life.

Feeling his chest nearly explode with anger, Zhao Chengshuang yelled, ”What the hell are you doing!”

The three officers turned to look, not recognizing Zhao Chengshuang. They exchanged glances, and one of them sneered, ”Who the fuck are you? Do you know where this is? Why are you raising a fuss here?”

Zhao Chengshuang shouted, ”I’m Zhao Chengshuang, the captain of the West City Sub-bureau Criminal Investigation Team. What the hell are you doing? He’s injured like this already, and you’re still using torture to extract a confession?”

The three police officers became angry, and one cursed, ”What the hell does a West City division have to say in our Beicheng Branch? Do you think you’re still a captain here?”

”I bet he’s not even a cop, have you ever seen a captain in a wheelchair?” another said.

”Who cares whether he is or not, this is the Beicheng Branch. Even if you were the director of West City, you’d still have to shut up and stay in line here!”

Zhao Chengshuang, trembling with rage, exclaimed, ”Don’t go too far, believe it or not, I’ll take this matter up to the city bureau!”

An officer retorted, ”Don’t fucking scare me, it’s Boss Yang Shitao who ordered us to ’take good care’ of this guy. Even if you take this matter to the city bureau, it won’t touch a hair on my head. I don’t believe you can outmaneuver Boss Yang!”

Hearing this, Zhao Chengshuang immediately furrowed his brows. He knew who Yang Shitao was, a powerful figure in the city, the father of Yang Wei. He hadn’t expected Yang to get involved so quickly in this matter. It seemed the person backing Chen Tianyao was indeed him.

With Yang Shitao’s influence, no wonder Chen Tianyao didn’t give Deng Liyang any face!

Zhao Chengshuang angrily said, ”I’m not trying to scare you, I’m following the rules. With such serious injuries, he should be sent for treatment first. Don’t think that just because Yang Shitao is backing you, you can break the rules. Let me tell you, whoever breaks the rules will be held accountable!”

The three officers looked at one another, and one of them walked straight up to Zhao Chengshuang and suddenly slapped him across the face.

Zhao Chengshuang was stunned—no one had dared to hit him like this before. This officer really had some nerve!

”Accountability? I’m fucking ready to accept responsibility right now!” The officer who slapped Zhao Chengshuang dragged him into the interrogation room, slammed the door shut behind them, and arrogantly declared, ”You should be scared, alright. Boss Yang said if we get in trouble over this, each of us would receive three hundred thousand.

Boss Yang will also sort out some business for us in the city. By then, doing anything will be more carefree than being a damn cop. You fucking come here sticking your nose in our business; believe it or not, I’ll take care of you too today!”
