Urban Martial Saint

Nian Hongcai was at a loss for words. All three policemen had been beaten to this extent, yet Zhao Jianjun was still not satisfied. On top of that, he wanted to file a complaint against them—this was nothing short of utterly destroying them.

Such a complaint could have serious implications. Given Zhao Jianjun’s influence, it was enough to send these three men to prison for around twenty years. In other words, their entire lives were completely doomed.

Chen Tianyao looked at the three bloodied policemen, shivering all over in fear, and at this moment he couldn’t utter a single word. This time, he truly realized Zhao Jianjun’s dominance and how untouchable the Zhao Family really was!

Zhao Jianjun turned his head and looked coldly at Chen Tianyao. Chen felt like prey under the gaze of an experienced hunter; his whole body went cold and, unable to control himself, he put on a mournful face and said with a quivering voice, ”Commissar Zhao... I know I was wrong... ”

”Whether you’re wrong or not is not for me. Xiao Deng will have a long talk with you about it,” Zhao Jianjun glanced at Nian Hongcai and said, ”Director Nian, with this incident having blown up so much, I suspect that there are people inside the department who have been taking bribes and attempting to bend the law for personal gain. Therefore, I hope you can keep a close watch on your own people.

This matter must be thoroughly investigated and if, before the investigation results come out, your department happens to be missing a few people or such, I’m afraid it won’t look good for you!”

Nian Hongcai knew exactly what Zhao Jianjun meant. It was a clear hint to keep an eye on Chen Tianyao and not let him escape. It looked like the person Zhao Jianjun really wanted to deal with was Chen Tianyao.

But on second thought, it was Chen Tianyao’s own doing. Collaborating with Yang Shitao and not even paying respect to Deng Liyang’s status, he had gone too far, and this time he surely could not escape his responsibilities.

”Commissar Zhao, rest assured, I will definitely keep a close eye on my men!” Nian Hongcai promised Zhao Jianjun. Chen Tianyao had become expendable and there was no need to leave any way out for him.

Hearing this, Chen Tianyao’s body went limp, and he almost collapsed to the ground.

”Very good!” Zhao Jianjun nodded and waved his hand, saying, ”Alright, retreat!”

”Wait!” Supported by two soldiers, Zhao Chengshuang hobbled over to the three policemen, bent down slowly, and said, ”I told you that you wouldn’t be able to leave Shenchuan City. Now, do you believe me?”

The three policemen convulsed on the ground, filled with regret. If they had known Zhao Chengshuang had such a background, they wouldn’t have dared to touch him even if it killed them. But where in the world is there medicine for regret?

”When you act, you should not be too conscienceless. Man does, heaven watches. If you do too many bad things, you will ultimately have to pay the price!” Standing up, Zhao Chengshuang said, ”Three hundred thousand—do you think you’ll have the chance to spend it?”

Disdainfully glancing at the three men, Zhao Chengshuang then left with the support of the soldiers and together with Zhao Jianjun.

Nian Hongcai bowed and sent off this group of terrifying guests. Not until the military vehicles were far away did his expression return to coldness. However, the moment he turned and saw Chen Tianyao, his face softened into a faint smile and he said, ”Old Chen, don’t take it too much to heart. It’s just Commissar Zhao’s temper. Alright, you’ve been busy for long enough today; go back and rest.”

Chen Tianyao nodded and, like a zombie, he handed in his gun and handcuffs and staggered away from the station.

Watching Chen Tianyao walk away, Nian Hongcai summoned two trusted policemen and instructed them to keep an eye on him to prevent his escape. Someone had to take the fall for this, and Chen Tianyao could not be allowed to flee. If Chen did escape, then he himself would have to carry the burden.

Walking aimlessly on the street, Chen Tianyao’s mind was in turmoil. He couldn’t understand how things could have ended this way tonight. Zhou Tingjun had personally called to order Ye Qing and Black Bear’s release—what was going on? Zhao Jianjun’s influence shouldn’t have been enough to affect Zhou Tingjun, who had been parachuted in from the province. There had to be some problem behind this.

After walking a bit further and ensuring no one was around, Chen Tianyao took out his phone and called Yang Shitao, recounting the night’s events.

After listening to Chen Tianyao, Yang Shitao also fell into silence. After a while, he finally let out a light sigh and said, ”I know.”

Chen Tianyao was stunned. What do you mean, ’you know’? Shouldn’t you at least tell me what I should do? With such a big incident, can you afford not to cover for me?

”Boss Yang, this... this incident has blown up quite a bit, and Director Zhou personally intervened. I’m afraid he might be aligning himself with the Zhao Family. Now that Zhao Jianjun wants to investigate this matter, he is clearly targeting me. You have to help me...” Chen Tianyao said with a trembling voice.

”Don’t worry, I will definitely help you. Just go back for now; keep quiet about anything you’re asked, and I will find a way,” Yang Shitao replied.

Chen Tianyao was overjoyed and said repeatedly, ”That’s great, that’s great. Boss Yang, you have to come up with a solution quickly; the Zhao Family won’t give me much time!”

”I know.” Yang Shitao hung up the phone, his expression gradually turning cold. The turn of events that night was unexpected, and he couldn’t understand why Zhou Tingjun suddenly backed Ye Qing.

A man sitting beside Yang Shitao analyzed, ”Zhou Tingjun came from the province and has no ties with the various powers in Shenchuan City, so he shouldn’t be siding with the Zhao Family. With such a big incident tonight and Ye Qing being the only suspect, it’s audacious of him to order Ye’s release. There must be a problem here. I think we’ll have to ask the big boss about this.”

Yang Shitao nodded slowly, sharing the same thought. He had also tried to contact Zhou Tingjun, but Zhou had given him no chance at all. Now with Zhou Tingjun inexplicably supporting Ye Qing, something was definitely amiss.

After a moment of silence, Yang Shitao took out his phone to call his powerful supporter, explaining the situation.

”I just received the news; it was a call from the provincial department, personally naming Zhou Tingjun to let those two people go,” the person on the other end pondered for a moment and said, ”Xiao Yang, don’t do anything too outrageous in the next few days. This issue has caused such a stir that the provincial authorities are also paying attention to it. Don’t let them start watching you.”

Yang Shitao said anxiously, ”My son’s grudge can’t be settled like this!”

”A moment of impatience may ruin a great plan!” The person on the other end of the call threw out these seven words and then hung up directly, without saying anything more to Yang Shitao.

Yang Shitao held the phone in silence for a long while, angrily threw the phone aside, and burst out, ”Endure, endure, endure, what is there to endure. My son is dead, how can I still endure? It’s not your son who died. If your son died like this, could you endure it?”

The man beside him cautiously watched Yang Shitao. Although he didn’t know exactly what the big backer had said, he had roughly guessed what was going on.

The man said in a low voice, ”Boss, I think the urgent matter at hand is to take care of the Chen Tianyao issue. The city is going to thoroughly investigate this matter, and we cannot get implicated because of it!”

Yang Shitao furrowed his brows and was silent for a while before asking, ”Who was in contact with Chen Tianyao?”

”Little He.” The man glanced at Yang Shitao and said, ”I’ll have Little He leave Shenchuan City right now!”

Yang Shitao didn’t speak, just slowly closed his eyes.

The man’s expression changed slightly; he knew what Yang Shitao meant. This was to silence Little He by killing him.

Yang Shitao had never had personal contact with Chen Tianyao and his people; it was all arranged by Little He. And the money hadn’t been paid either. Now, by killing Little He, there’d be no trace leading back to Yang Shitao. It seemed that Yang Wei’s death tonight had driven Yang Shitao to the brink of madness.

When Mu Qingrong and the others received a call from Ye Qing, it was already past three in the morning. The women hurried to the hospital where Huo Pingping and Black Bear had already been bandaged up, and even Zhao Chengshuang had been rebandaged. The three of them were lying in the same hospital room.

Seeing that Ye Qing and Black Bear weren’t seriously injured, the women finally breathed a sigh of relief. Fang Tingyun’s eyes were slightly red; she was the most worried and anxious person tonight.

Huo Pingping lay on the hospital bed with relatively minor injuries and felt much better after some sleep. Seeing the women arrive, she immediately reverted to her cheerful disposition and recounted in detail how she had been captured. Actually, it was quite ordinary, but she told the story with such flair that the women were drawn in by her enthusiasm.

Listening to her, they would gasp in shock, making it sound as if she had participated in a grand adventure that night.

Ye Qing sat between the beds of Black Bear and Zhao Chengshuang. Black Bear had already fallen into a drowsy sleep, while Zhao Chengshuang was still somewhat alert.

Ye Qing looked at Zhao Chengshuang and said sincerely, ”Thank you!”

”Don’t you say those three words to me, I can’t stand such mushy talk!” Zhao Chengshuang shook the only part of his head that he could move and said, ”I’m a man. I couldn’t face myself if I hadn’t helped you guys out tonight. If I didn’t lend a hand, how could I even have the nerve to claim to be your friend?”

Ye Qing responded, ”The day you entered Beihua Residential Area to save someone, you became my friend!”

Zhao Chengshuang didn’t say a word, just nodded firmly at Ye Qing.

Just then, the door to the hospital room was suddenly pushed open, and The Tycoon’s boss, Li Lianshan, appeared at the doorway.

Seeing Li Lianshan, Zhao Chengshuang immediately furrowed his brow and said brusquely before Ye Qing could speak, ”Li Lianshan, you’re supposedly a big shot around town; surely you’re not the type to kick someone when they’re down. Listen, I’ll take the fall for whatever issue Ye Qing has. Whatever you want, come to me. If you want an apology, I’ll apologize on his behalf.

If you want to hit someone, I’ll take the beating. How about that?”

Li Lianshan glanced at Zhao Chengshuang but didn’t say anything. Instead, he turned to Ye Qing and said, ”Can we talk outside for a moment?”

”Don’t go!” Zhao Chengshuang said. ”Let’s talk right here. I don’t believe he dares to cause trouble in the hospital.”

Ye Qing waved his hand at Zhao Chengshuang to reassure him and stood up to follow Li Lianshan out of the room.

Zhao Chengshuang shouted after him, ”Hey, hey, if anything happens, shout out loud. My dad’s people are right here!”

Old Eight walked over with his hands clasped behind his back. He looked at Ye Qing and Li Lianshan and said, ”I bet they won’t come to blows!”

”Really? How do you know?” Zhao Chengshuang asked curiously.

”I figured it out!” Old Eight looked at Zhao Chengshuang and suddenly said, ”Oh boy, you’ve got some dark clouds over your head; you’ve been having some bad luck recently, haven’t you?”

Zhao Chengshuang: ”...”
