The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1481: Chapter 1481: Come Have a Late-Night Snack

The old lady’s emotions were unstable, so Shu Yu could only let Hua Xian keep an eye on her, and they didn’t disturb her any further.

After leaving the old lady’s courtyard, Shu Yu and Madam Ruan went back to their own tasks.

Shu Yu organized the information she gathered from the Tan Family today; she felt it was necessary to understand Jiang Kuanyu better. Fortunately, this person had frequent interactions with the tenants on her Manor, perhaps she could find out something.

She planned to visit the Manor tomorrow, talk with everyone, and organize the Mid-Autumn Festival gift list, which she would later distribute to the staff.

With this in mind, Shu Yu took out the account book to reconcile the accounts.

She engrossed herself in it for over an hour, and by the time she snapped back to reality, it was drizzling outside.

”What time is it?”

Ying Xi adjusted the lamp wick and whispered, ”It’s two quarters past the hours of the boar.”

”It’s this late already?” It was already half-past nine.

Shu Yu stretched lazily and put away the account book on the table, ”Let’s go, time to rest.”

For Shu Yu, it wasn’t particularly late at this hour, but for people of this era, most would already be in bed.

Ying Xi quickly fetched a cloak for Shu Yu; autumn had arrived, and although it was still hot during the day, it was getting chilly at night, especially now that it was raining.

Shu Yu tied the cloak’s strings, took the umbrella Ying Xi handed over, and locked the study door, heading straight toward Yu Garden.

Ying Xi followed behind with a lantern; in the vast Lu family, only their two figures moved slowly on the slightly damp ground.

As they were about to reach Yu Garden, Shu Yu suddenly changed course and headed in a different direction.

”Miss?”

”I want to have a look,” Shu Yu said, heading toward the old lady’s courtyard. She was initially uneasy and just wanted to see from outside and leave, but as soon as she reached the courtyard gate, she saw the room was still brightly lit.

Ying Xi was also a bit surprised, ”The old lady hasn’t slept yet?”

Shu Yu frowned, stepped forward a few paces, then paused and turned to leave.

Ying Xi hurriedly followed, unexpectedly Shu Yu headed toward the kitchen.

The kitchen was dark at this time, with no one around. Ying Xi quickly lit a candle, ”Miss, what do you want to do?”

”Make some noodles, and add a few eggs.”

”I will make the fire.” Seeing that Shu Yu had already donned an apron, Ying Xi went behind the stove without another word.

The noodles were instant noodles; kneading and letting the dough rest now would take too much time. Adding some vegetables, meat slices, and eggs to the instant noodle cakes would provide sufficient nutrition.

Shu Yu also found some mushrooms in the basket, which the old lady liked to eat, and diced them to stir-fry.

The noodles cooked quickly, and by the time they were served, Ying Xi had already extinguished the stove fire and washed the spatula.

”Smells so good.”

Shu Yu smiled and pointed to a large bowl on the other side, ”There’s some for you too, have some with Hua Xian later.”

”Thank you, Miss.” Ying Xi touched her belly; she indeed was hungry.

Shu Yu took out two food boxes, packed everything up, and then each carrying one, headed back to the old lady’s courtyard.

When they arrived, the lights inside were indeed still on, and they could even catch a glimpse of Hua Xian’s silhouette flitting by inside the room.

The rain had almost stopped; Shu Yu folded the umbrella, went up, and gently knocked on the door.

In no time, Hua Xian came to open the door.
