The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1454: Chapter 1454: The Reason for High Fees

While speaking, the two had already entered the living room.

Not seeing anyone here, Shu Yu knew the family was in the backyard.

She asked someone to serve Doctor Xu tea, and then sat opposite him, ”Doctor Xu, if you have something to say, feel free to say it.”

Doctor Xu took a sip of tea, seemingly organizing his thoughts, and after a while, he spoke, ”I want to cooperate with Doctor Zhao and open a medical clinic.”

Shu Yu was taken aback and instinctively replied, ”Don’t you already have a clinic?”

Doctor Xu sighed, ”You’ve seen my clinic, it’s specifically for bone-setting. I encounter only one sick person every ten days or half a month. I’m almost rusting away. If this continues, even my bone-setting skills will waste away.”

Shu Yu was speechless, ”That’s because your pricing is too high. If you lower it slightly, given your Medical Skill, many people would seek your help.”

Speaking of this, Doctor Xu suddenly fell silent, his expression somewhat weary, ”I don’t want to set prices so high either, but back then, I had no choice.”

Is there more to the story? Shu Yu leaned forward curiously.

Only then did Doctor Xu speak of the clinic’s difficulties. Years ago, he offended the county magistrate of Jiangyuan County. Oh, the corrupt official taken down by Xiang Weinan.

That magistrate was vindictive and naturally didn’t want to let Doctor Xu off easily.

But fortunately, Doctor Xu had a good skill set, and he had already built a network. Not only in this county town, but also knew people in other places. Otherwise, when he sold the scar removal cream, he wouldn’t have been able to sell it to the capital.

Someone intervened for Doctor Xu, and only then did the county magistrate not throw him directly into prison.

Yet it also caused Doctor Xu severe losses, taking a long time to recover and reopen the clinic.

Even so, while the magistrate couldn’t trouble him openly, he frequently made covert moves, and the magistrate’s eldest son often sent people to cause disturbances.

Doctor Xu was in unbearable distress, and those patients who sought his help were more hurt, frightened to the point they dared not visit.

Gradually, apart from affluent families with influence visiting his clinic, ordinary folks didn’t dare come.

However, there were only so many affluent families, and even fewer sick people.

The clinic began to fall into financial straits, gradually becoming rundown.

Doctor Xu also considered leaving Jiangyuan County to start anew elsewhere.

But firstly, this was his ancestral home, where his parents’ and wife’s graves were, and he didn’t want to wander alone, ending up dying in a foreign land.

Secondly, even if he wanted to travel far, needed a travel permit, which was hindered by the county magistrate, restricting him from going far.

Doctor Xu had no options, life had to go on, so he gradually raised the fees.

Those who consulted him were wealthy people who valued his Medical Skill, and truly didn’t mind spending a bit more as long as they could get treated.

With fewer patients and high fees, Doctor Xu’s clinic barely stayed alive, enough to maintain expenses.

”When you offered to collaborate, selling the scar removal cream formula to me, the money I could gather was already all I had.”

The clinic had maintenance costs, pharmacist’s wages had to be paid, and the medicinal materials for the patients were the best, always prepared, all costing a significant amount.

Shu Yu was surprised, ”Then what if I had asked for a bit more back then?”

”Then I’d have had to borrow; I could still borrow one or two hundred taels of money.”
