The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1475: Chapter 1475: Old Master Tan’s Persuasion

Shu Yu had learned everything she needed to know. She exhaled a breath and stood up to speak to the Tan family father and son, ”I didn’t expect Jiang Kuanyu to have an accident. It seems even if I wanted to know what was wrong with that manor, it’s impossible now. I can only investigate it myself when I return.”

Old Master Tan comforted her, ”Village Chief, don’t worry too much. Perhaps Jiang Kuanyu was eager to sell back then and lowered the price because you are the Village Chief.”

Shu Yu smiled, ”I hope so. Now that he’s gone, there’s no way for me to find out. Well, it’s getting late, and I have to leave.”

Old Master Tan originally wanted to invite her to stay for a meal, but Shu Yu said her mother was waiting for her at the inn, so he didn’t insist on keeping her.

He instructed Tan Cheng to go back to his room to rest while he escorted Shu Yu out the door.

As they were about to reach the shadow wall, Old Master Tan hesitated for a moment but still said, ”Village Chief, you...”

Shu Yu knew from earlier that Old Master Tan’s hesitancy meant he had something to say.

She stopped, turned slightly with a smile, and said, ”Old Master Tan, feel free to speak your mind.”

”You... sigh, I just want to advise you not to continue investigating Jiang Kuanyu’s affair. If you’re really worried that the manor has issues, just sell it directly.”

Old Master Tan lowered his voice, ”You must know from Old Doctor Zhao that Ah Cheng was poisoned by Jiang Kuanyu because he nearly stumbled into the black market. You don’t know that the forces behind the black market are immense, beyond what you and I can handle. If you continue the investigation, you might not be able to protect yourself. Jiang Kuanyu falling off the cliff was suspicious enough; I suspect the black market was trying to silence him. It’s puzzling how he decided to leave Dongan Province with his whole family in haste; perhaps he was trying to avoid the black market.”

Shu Yu was startled, but it wasn’t surprising for Old Master Tan to have such a suspicion; he truly believed Jiang Kuanyu was dead.

She just didn’t expect he would share this with her.

She paused, nodded, ”I understand.”

Old Master Tan sighed, ”We can’t afford to offend the forces of the black market. Ah Cheng nearly lost his life; how could I be content? But I know my own capabilities; opposing the black market wouldn’t only endanger Ah Cheng but could also jeopardize the entire Tan family. So with Jiang Kuanyu dead, let’s consider everything cancelled. This matter ends here.”

Shu Yu knew Old Master Tan had her best interests at heart, and she smiled, ”Alright, I’ll pretend I don’t know about Jiang Kuanyu’s matter. He’s just a businessman who sold me the manor.”

Old Master Tan smiled, ”Exactly, just like that.”

Shu Yu left the Tan family, and after bidding farewell to Old Master Tan, the smile on her face faded as she got on the carriage.

With a sigh of slight distress, she also wished not to get involved and for this matter to just end here.

But she didn’t want to be entangled, while the other side wouldn’t let them go.

If the Second Prince truly gained power, none of them could expect peace.

”Ying Xi, let’s head back to the inn.”

”Yes.”

When the carriage arrived at the inn, Madam Ruan and Mrs. Xiang had already returned.

Compared to before, the smile on Mrs. Xiang’s face had relaxed significantly, suggesting her mind had turned to the matter of clothes.

”Yu, you’re back? Come in quickly, I’ve asked the waiter to bring the dishes.”

Shu Yu sat on the couch to the side, listening to the two chatter about their clothing ideas, alleviating much of the agitation she felt upon hearing the bad news at the Tan family earlier in the afternoon.

She soon joined in, and the three chatted until late before finally resting.
