The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1474: Chapter 1474: Is Jiang Kuanyu Dead Too?

Housekeeper Tang said, ”I found out that the escort agency concealed the incident for the sake of reputation. Initially, the agency only took small assignments with short routes. The Jiang family hiring them for the escort back home was their biggest job. The agency hoped that this escort would bring them fame, but if something went wrong, who would hire them again?”

So, something happened during the escort, and one of the escorts died. The Head Escort strictly forbade anyone from talking about it, so it was covered up.

As it turned out, the deceased escort was all alone, without family. Even if he never showed up, no one came looking for him at the agency.

But neighbors noticed his long absence and began asking questions. The escort agency claimed that the escort had an accident during a later mission and unfortunately passed away.

Though it was also a death, as long as it didn’t happen while escorting the Jiang family, it was acceptable.

Housekeeper Tang learned these details from another escort in the agency, who was the deceased escort’s best friend. Because of his friend’s misfortune, the escort felt distressed and had been carrying guilt, yet he was powerless.

Old Master Tan listened with his brows furrowed tightly, ”This escort agency has no integrity. Even in death, they do not let people rest in peace.”

He looked up and asked, ”You mentioned earlier that they encountered bandits on their return journey and that’s why the incident occurred?”

”Yes.” Housekeeper Tang nodded, ”But those bandits were a ragtag group, which is why that small agency could handle it.”

”And what about the Jiang family?”

Housekeeper Tang hesitated for a moment before saying cautiously, ”The other members of the Jiang family were fine, it’s just... Young Master Jiang fell off a cliff, and the escort tried to grab him, resulting in both of them falling off. Both agency and Jiang family people searched the base of the cliff but found no one, just bloodstained fabric below. It is said that possibly, they might have been eaten by wild beasts.”

The Tan family father and son gasped, ”What did you say? Jiang Kuanyu also fell down?”

”Yes, only the two of them had accidents. But the Jiang family didn’t believe it. Mrs. Deng claimed that without a body, her son was surely not dead and forbade the agency from spreading false information. Conveniently, the agency didn’t want the failure of their escort mission exposed, so they aligned with Mrs. Deng’s claims, never mentioning Young Master Jiang’s accident, and continued to escort people back to their Northern home.”

Shu Yu squinted her eyes after hearing this; she was certain that Jiang Kuanyu was not dead, and the escort who fell with him was likely still alive as well.

But if he were alive, why hasn’t he returned by now?

Could it be... he was killed by Jiang Kuanyu? Or perhaps he knows something and dares not return?

She raised her eyes to ask Housekeeper Tang, ”Do you know at which section they had the accident?”

”Yes, it was about twenty miles from just leaving Changjin Prefecture.”

Shu Yu, ”Such a serious incident, it should have been reported to the authorities, right?”

”Yes, it was reported. The government office sent someone to investigate. They found traces of wild beasts at the bottom of the cliff and discovered the bloodstained clothing of the escort and Young Master Jiang, which were torn by the beasts. It’s likely that both were eaten after death.”

Shu Yu sighed, suspecting something amiss in Changjin Prefecture, and now it seems even the authorities there might have issues.

It’s likely confirmed that Jiang Kuanyu is indeed in Changjin Prefecture and deliberately chose that section to have an accident and separate from the group.

Mrs. Deng’s reaction probably means she knows her son is still alive.
