The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1479: Chapter 1479: The Old Lady’s Unusual Behavior

Meng Yunzheng noticed her frowning face and couldn’t help but gently pat her head with a smile, ”Alright, don’t worry. The Second Prince’s target is the Emperor. To them, we are just small fry, not significant enough for immediate confrontation. Consider us still in the shadows.”

At least, they don’t know that Meng Yunzheng was the Emperor’s person from the beginning, nor do they know that Xiang Weinan pledged allegiance long ago.

They still have their trump cards.

Shu Yu nodded, ”Alright, for now, we can only wait for news. I’ll head back first.”

”Okay.”

Meng Yunzheng saw her off, and coincidentally, the goods from the carriage had just been unloaded, with Ying Xi driving the cart over.

Once Meng Yunzheng watched them leave, he returned to the courtyard to write another letter to Xiang Weinan.

Shu Yu and the others then returned to Lu family on Fenghuai Street.

Who knew that upon arriving at the doorstep, they ran into the returning old lady.

Shu Yu was surprised, ”Grandmother, where did you go?”

The old lady appeared dispirited, being supported by Hua Xian as she walked in, waving her hand, ”I went back to Shangshi Village.”

Shu Yu saw she didn’t seem to want to talk much, so she didn’t ask further and quickly went to the other side to help her inside.

In the past, when the old lady had two people supporting her, she would always say she was still strong and didn’t need help. But today, she said nothing, just dazedly walking forward.

Shu Yu became even more worried.

After returning to the courtyard, the old lady stayed inside, even having her dinner in her room.

She ate very little, her usual good appetite nowhere to be seen.

Shu Yu was deeply worried, and after the old lady retired to rest, she quickly called Hua Xian out to quietly ask, ”What’s wrong with my Grandmother? Why did she go back to Shangshi Village, was she bullied?”

Hua Xian quickly shook her head, ”No, the old lady just isn’t feeling well.”

According to Hua Xian, yesterday afternoon, someone from Shangshi Village came to deliver the news that an old Mrs. Liu had passed away, asking if the old lady would go back for the funeral.

The old lady was somewhat stunned upon hearing this news.

This morning, she had Hua Xian accompany her on a trip back to Shangshi Village.

The Liu family’s funeral lasted all day, and Old Mrs. Liu had already been taken up the mountain.

But the old lady seemed unable to recover, at times watching the younger generation of the Liu family cry, her eyes turned red too, unable to speak any comforting words.

Though it was getting late, the old lady planned to stay overnight at Lu Dasong’s house.

However, since the Liu and Lu families were close in proximity, despite Old Mrs. Liu having been buried, the sounds of hammering and occasional cries of relatives could still be heard.

Hearing these, the old lady’s mood inevitably fell.

Hua Xian worried that such prolonged sadness would affect the old lady’s health, so she conferred with Lu Dasong, suggesting it might be better to return. Away from such an atmosphere, the old lady might feel slightly better.

Lu Dasong readily agreed, and thus Hua Xian took the old lady back with the coachman’s help.

Lu Dasong intended to personally accompany them, but since there were many affairs at the Liu family, the old lady asked him to stay and help.

Shu Yu furrowed her brows tightly upon hearing this, ”Was this Old Mrs. Liu very close to Grandmother?”

That part, Hua Xian wasn’t sure.

It was Madam Ruan beside them who nodded, ”Indeed, they were quite close initially. She and your Grandmother were married to Shangshi Village in the same year and were of the same age. Plus, the two families were near each other back then, so they did everything together.”
