The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1470: Chapter 1470: Mrs. Xiang’s Troubles

Xiang clearly doesn’t know how to say it; once emotions swell up, she really can’t control herself.

Shu Yu poured her a cup of tea, ”Mrs. Xiang, would you like a glass of water? What’s troubling Xiangdi? Tell me, and I’ll help you persuade her.”

Xiang took a deep breath, ”She refuses to get married.”

Shu Yu, ”...”

This is beyond her capabilities.

Madam Ruan explained to her, ”Xiangdi has now reached the age where marriage is talked about. Since she started working at Yiren Pavilion, life has improved, and there’ve been suitors one after another. Unfortunately, Xiangdi is not satisfied with any of them. Recently, she even drove the matchmaker away, and for the past few days, she often hasn’t spoken to Mrs. Xiang.”

Shu Yu actually thinks there’s no rush to get married at this age, but people these days don’t think that way. If it takes a few more years, people might think Fu Xiangdi has some issues, which is why she’s been unable to secure a match.

”Is there something she’s dissatisfied with?”

Madam Ruan glanced at Xiang, ”Everything else is fine, but Xiangdi has one important request; she can marry, but she wants to bring Mrs. Xiang along.”

Shu Yu, ”...” This question is also beyond her.

Xiang finally felt a little better, though her voice was a bit shaky, ”Xiangdi is a good child; I know she’s worried about me. It’s been just the two of us supporting each other all these years. She’s afraid that once she’s married, I’d be all alone, and she couldn’t marry with peace of mind. But, but if she doesn’t marry, I feel guilty. I can’t delay her forever. Does she have to wait until I die to get married?”

Madam Ruan was startled, ”Pei pei pei, don’t speak of death, Sister Xiang. Don’t say such nonsense, and don’t overthink. Xiangdi is just filial; having a daughter like that should make you happy.”

Shu Yu chuckled, this indeed seems like something Fu Xiangdi would do.

She thought for a moment and asked, ”Then... how about inviting a husband into the family?”

Xiang shook her head, ”Xiangdi has also mentioned this, but nowadays, how many men who join the family are successful? Not to mention far-off stories, just look at Shangshi Village’s Liang Wangsheng. Their live-in son-in-law didn’t work, made his wife’s family support him, and yet wasn’t satisfied. He even gambled, took all of Madam Liang’s money, eloped with a woman, and later killed someone. Who would dare to take in someone like that?”

True, news of Uncle Liang’s family matters had already spread widely around Jiangyuan County.

If it weren’t for Uncle Liang working with her father now, earning a stable income, life for Madam Liang’s family would be really tough.

Neither option works, and Xiang and Fu Xiangdi’s opinions can’t align, making them silent in a cold war despite wanting the best for each other.

Xiang feels she’s burdening her daughter, and her heartache makes her choke up.

She looked up at Shu Yu, ”Yu, there are many staff in your workshop. See if there’s someone suitable to introduce to Xiangdi. I’m not asking for too much, just someone decent and who’ll treat our Xiangdi well.”

Shu Yu sighed, ”Mrs. Xiang, if Xiangdi doesn’t agree, even the most outstanding person I find won’t help.”

Madam Ruan nodded, ”Exactly, the knot still lies with Xiangdi. Otherwise, I think Xiao Guo is quite good.”

”Xiao Guo is good, but his family is noisy, with endless troubles. Even Xiao Guo can’t stand it and has moved out to rent a place. If our Xiangdi marries into that, they’d end up fighting.”
