My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1749: Chapter 1543: Cherish

Back then, I gave my heart to you but you didn’t care. Now, we both yearn for the past; occasionally, my heart still hurts, but it’s already numb and worn out. Love has been corroded by reality, and no matter how beautiful it is, it can only remain in the past.

The love that once was, has disappeared. Regret comes too late for something that has been possessed, and that’s considered lucky.

Li Jiayuan became good friends with Xia Jing a long time ago. Now she knows her good friend had a car accident. She simply cannot wait here calmly for good news, especially considering that so much time has already passed without any good news. She really fears losing such a good friend.

Lei Kai sees that no matter what he says, he cannot make his mother stay. He understands that deep down, his mother is really anxious.

How could those people possibly not be anxious? No matter what grudges the adults may have, Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian have truly been kind to him.

”Kai, you are my own son! How can you only stand by your father’s side and ignore your mother’s feelings? I am your mother, and I worked so hard to bring you into this world. Have you ever thought about that?

Even if these years you have seldom been home, and even though you’ve been busy with your career outside, as your mother, I am always watching your every move. I can’t understand what kind of mindset makes you feel that all of this has nothing to do with you. You’ve never considered things from my perspective as a mother.

In your father’s eyes, Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian’s car accident matters greatly; does that mean in my eyes as a mother it doesn’t matter? I truly regard her as a good sister. She is going through this situation now; how can I just stand by without offering even a single word of comfort?

If he wakes up later and realizes that during her illness, I never appeared and never offered any comfort, that would be difficult for me to bear. How could I continue being her good sister?”

Li Jiayuan did not say much, but his son awkwardly stood there, unsure of how to persuade his mother. Since the situation has become a foregone conclusion, why not just let his mother go back to China to see her? Perhaps only then would his mother be at peace.

”Mom, regardless of time or place, you will always be my mother in my heart. No matter what happens, that fact will never change. Since you really want to go back to China to see her, then I’ll let you return. Initially, we only didn’t want you to be so exhausted from all the traveling. We didn’t want you to be tired out taking flights day after day. Who would have thought it would lead to misunderstanding? Rather than this, we think it would be more appropriate for you to go back and care for them!

I wonder if I should take my brother along when I go back.”

Despite all these years of running around outside while pursuing his career, Lei Kai hopes to make a name for himself, not expecting to become the world’s richest man but at least not much worse than Zhang Yichen.

He has always wanted to return to China, but never found the chance. Now that the opportunity has finally arrived, he wouldn’t easily let it slip away. He feels it’s time to go back and take a look at China—how could he permanently reside in the United States without ever stepping onto other lands?

Li Jiayuan thinks letting her son accompany her back is a good decision; at least if anything happens on the road, there will be someone to help her. After all, she is getting older, and traveling back and forth is indeed unsafe; having her son by her side will also likely reassure others.

”Kai, since you’ve said so, what more can I say as your mom? Having you accompany me back is a happy thing for me; I am looking forward to it. I haven’t been back for all these years; I also want to take you to see the places where I used to live.”

Li Jiayuan thus took her son back to China.

Xiao Wei knew that Li Jiayuan had returned to China by the next day.

He didn’t expect that this matter would be uncovered so quickly. He had just returned, and in less than a week, his wife followed on his heels. Perhaps, he really hadn’t thought things through. How could such an important matter be expected to remain hidden indefinitely? When the truth needed to be known, they had to be informed. Their return wasn’t necessarily a wrong decision; at least they could see the current situation for themselves, and only then could their hearts truly feel love. If he were the only one guarding this place while they waited for news in the United States, they would only anxiously await. That kind of waiting is suffocating.

”Yichen, your aunt and cousin have arrived, and I need to go to the airport to pick them up. If anything unexpected happens here, contact me immediately; I’ll hurry back.”

Zhang Yichen is truly grateful to his uncle for waiting here for so long. Usually, in a week, his uncle hasn’t left the hospital, waiting for his parents to wake up. But he is still disappointed. Now that his aunt has returned from a faraway place, maybe it’s really to show concern for his parents. How could he stop them?

”Uncle, go ahead and pick up Aunt and Cousin. I’ll take good care of things here, and if there’s even the slightest sign, I’ll inform you at once. Be careful on the road to the airport; stay safe.”

”Alright, then I’ll be leaving first!”

After Xiao Wei left, Zhang Yichen looked at his parents still lying in the intensive care unit and couldn’t help mumbling to himself.

”Mom and Dad, why have so many days passed and you still show no signs of waking up? Do you know how many people have worried about you during this time? Do you know that Uncle has come from afar and waited here for you for a whole week? Yet you show no sign of waking up. Aunt and Cousin have returned now too; they hope to see you safe and sound. Would you please surprise them and show them you’re okay? Don’t sleep like this; sleeping for too long isn’t good for your health...”

Zhang Yichen said so much, but his parents couldn’t hear a word of it because they were already in their dreams, unaware of the date, and didn’t know that apart from their happiest days long past, there were so many people eagerly waiting for them to wake up.

Perhaps falling in love really is easy, but getting along requires learning from both parties. Maybe, we’ve given each other too much pressure, making him unable to bear it and thus leaving me...
