My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1735: Chapter 1529: Promise

No one should feel obligated to be good to anyone, nor does anyone owe anyone else.

Zhang Yichen didn’t want to say much to his father, so he left and went back home. He felt his father had changed, no longer the person he used to be, now numb and ruthless, doing things without regard for consequences. He couldn’t let such a father stay by his grandfather’s side forever, as it would only hurt his grandfather more and more.

Zhang Zhentian watched his son refuse to acknowledge him and knew he had gone too far this time. He realized he often acted without thinking, wondering if things wouldn’t be so terrible if he contemplated more. Why was he always hurting others, seeing them in such pain as if it brought him joy and happiness? He didn’t want much, but ultimately hurt those who loved him the most.

Ran Zhihan learned about the conflict between her husband and his father and grandfather. Her heart saddened, although it had little to do with her. Ever since that incident, her husband refused to share a bed with her, feeling deceived by his wife, deprived of trust and respect, leaving him very upset. Often, she wondered why she took matters into her own hands. Had she informed her husband or grandfather of the matter, things might have been different, not escalating to this irreparable state. All these consequences stemmed from her momentary selfishness. But was she truly wrong? She made this mistake to protect him, which he saw as an unforgivable betrayal. Why does everyone define betrayal differently? In her eyes, he hadn’t cheated, so it wasn’t betrayal, and she would forgive him without hesitation, yet he perceived her so differently.

She went to the study to find her grandfather but discovered Old Master Zhang wasn’t there. She hastily went to his bedroom and knocked on the door. No one answered for a long time, and she became worried. Could her grandfather be asleep inside, or could something have happened? Sensing the situation was not right, she quickly picked the lock and pushed open the door, finding her grandfather collapsed on the floor, his face pale and frightening. She grew even more worried and promptly called for an ambulance to take Old Master Zhang to the hospital. After repeated attempts to revive him at the hospital, it was concluded that Old Master Zhang had suffered a heart attack. Initially, they didn’t know he had a heart condition, nor had he ever discovered he had heart issues. This episode was caused by overwhelming anger, blocking his heart from releasing tension, leading to the sudden heart attack.

Ran Zhihan hurriedly shared the news with Zhang Yichen. Initially, Zhang Yichen didn’t want to answer her call but felt it might be unwise to miss anything urgent because of a call. He ultimately chose to pick up the phone. Upon hearing his wife say his grandfather was critically ill in the hospital, he became deeply concerned and drove to the hospital as fast as a plane.

”Zhihan, how is Grandpa? Please tell me how he’s doing! Grandpa never had a heart condition. How could he suddenly have a heart attack? Is there anything I don’t know? Please tell me, I’m really worried about Grandpa!”

”Yichen, don’t panic. Let me explain. Grandpa collapsed at home. I went to find him, but the door was closed, which felt odd. I initially thought he was asleep, but after unlocking the door, I found Grandpa collapsed on the floor. I called to take him to the hospital, where doctors discovered he had a sudden heart attack and issued a critical notice. They said Grandpa’s anger blocked his heart from dispersing, leading to the attack. Grandpa can’t be subjected to any excitement or worry in the future, or he may suffer another attack. This time they managed to save him, but there’s no guarantee an accident won’t happen next time. So, we must take good care of Grandpa...”

”How is this possible? Grandpa never had heart issues, and his heart has always been healthy. He never mentioned anything, but suddenly, he has a heart attack? What was the reason for such a change?” Zhang Yichen immediately understood that it had to be related to his dear father. If his father hadn’t stubbornly refused to come home, his grandfather wouldn’t have been so upset. If his father had not repeatedly rejected his grandfather’s good intentions, Grandpa wouldn’t be in the hospital now. He’s at a loss for words to describe his father, who can even hurt his own flesh and blood like this. Zhang Yichen feels his father truly has become different, like a completely different person.

At this moment, Zhang Yichen silently made a decision. He decided he could never forgive his father for the rest of his life. His father could hurt anyone and hurt him, but Zhang Yichen would never allow anyone to harm his grandfather. He doesn’t blame his father for all the mistakes or the harm to himself, but for hurting his grandfather is the one unforgivable act in his heart!

Zhang Yichen sent a message to Zhang Zhentian: ”Now, as you wished, Grandpa is critically ill. Because of you, he is like this, so I hope you remember, no matter what happens, Grandpa doesn’t need your care. Your refusal led to Grandpa’s heart attack, hurt the person who treated me the best, hurt the person who loves me the most. Since that’s the case, from today, we no longer have any relationship. If anything happens to Grandpa again, I will never forgive you, and you will never receive anyone’s forgiveness. He’s your own father, yet you can hurt him, showing how cruel you are...”

It’s not that I’m heartless, but I truly regret how I treated you back then.
