My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1722: Chapter 1516: Keep Walking

After everything changed, no one could escape the arrangement of fate.

Zhang Zhentian never thought his father could be so heartless. Despite him, as a son, kneeling and begging bitterly, his father remained unmoved. He refused to forgive this mistake of Zhentian’s. Zhentian couldn’t understand his own thoughts at the time that made him promise in front of his son to return and seek his father’s forgiveness. Now it seemed he had backed himself into a corner. Why did he repeatedly put aside all his dignity to beg his father, when his father clearly had no intention of forgiving him or allowing him to return home?

Is all of this just wishful thinking? He only hoped that every family member could treat him kindly, live harmoniously, and be happy together. Why do they keep hurting each other with unpleasant issues? Clearly, the family could live happily together, but they inflict pain on each other, making everyone live uneasily.

Now, he truly wished he could crawl into a hole from embarrassment - he’s never been so humiliated in his life. Kneeling and begging for forgiveness, yet hearing nothing in return; it was an immense insult. He believed his father never truly regarded him as his son. But had he ever considered why his father acted this way? This way of proving his actions were right or wrong - he saw only the mistakes of others, never his own, much like carrying two pockets: one only sees the faults of others, while the other never reveals his own mistakes, overlooking the harm his wrongs caused others.

”Dad, I never thought I’d kneel here begging you today, only to hear nothing of forgiveness. I don’t understand why I’m doing this. If I hadn’t promised my son to earn your forgiveness, I wouldn’t kneel here pleading. Although you’re my father, I’ve never lost my dignity like this. I used to hold my dignity in high regard, and I never said much, as I believed that following my heart guaranteed achieving my goals. But when I discovered that everything I desired was slipping away, do you know what I found? I’ve changed; I’m no longer the person I once knew.”

I wish every decision you make would allow every family member to reflect. I want to understand why I did everything I’ve done, and I hope you can provide us with a complete family.

I also hope you give me the chance to be with my child, to watch him live happily, and to make up for the years of absence in my life.

Why won’t you give me a chance? Do you truly see everything I do as so despicable? I desperately hope you’ll give me a chance to change, but you keep hurting me with your words, making it clear that no matter what I do, I can never return to the past.”

Xia Jing couldn’t bear Zhang Zhentian begging his father in vain; she didn’t want her husband’s dignity trampled underfoot. She hoped he could reclaim his rightful dignity and decided to take all the blame onto herself. Perhaps everything could be solved by speaking out rather than keeping it buried deep inside. If I continued like this, I wouldn’t know what to do.

”Dad, I’m sorry. I know leaving this family was indeed my fault. If it wasn’t for me, your son wouldn’t have abandoned you. I understand the deep-seated grudge you hold over this matter, and your reluctance to trust others...

In your heart, you expect betrayal and harm from those you trust. But we’re not heartless; we seek understanding and support from our family. Our past decision was indeed erroneous, and we’ve thoroughly realized how wrong we were. Could you consider my feelings from my perspective? I hope everyone can empathize, think about the difficulties we face, what kind of life we want, and stop letting family members be hurt.

Perhaps you think I’m the least qualified to say this. I’m the one who let everything become the way it is now, yet here I am, asking for your forgiveness.

I just want a clear conscience. I’ve regretted my past actions. If there was a cure for regret, I’d take it. If time could flow backward, I’d return to the start. I would never give up my child. As a mother, being unable to see her child is heartbreaking. Even though I never imagined meeting my son would leave me so numb, or that my actions would cause such unbearable pain, I hope the hurt I’ve caused ends here. I don’t want our strained relationship to harm loved ones anymore.

I know, kneeling here today and begging you for so long is futile, because you won’t believe or forgive us. Our past wrongs have cost us your trust, and you’ll never forgive us in the carefree manner you once did, because you simply can’t...”

The biggest and perhaps most correct decision in this life was being with you.
