My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1701: Chapter 1495: Youth

After Zhang Yichen thought about this, he realized that the person he owed the most to was not anyone else, but his own father. It was he who forcibly took away the love his father deserved for so many years. It turned out that all of this was his own doing. He had never thought about how much loss his actions had brought to his father. It was love that was never meant for him, all given by his grandfather because he had forced his father away from the home. Because he did not agree to let him back into the house, his grandfather cruelly turned him away. Everything was because of him, making the home turn out this way. Given that, what right or reason did he have to forcibly drive them out again? Was this really the result one should achieve as a son? Having done all this, could he really have no recollections deep down? What he was looking for could never be found, yet he kept hurting those who loved him most time and again.

Zhang Zhentian didn’t understand what kind of reason could make his son so absent-minded for so long. His son had lived a hard life, never complaining to others about what he truly wanted. He believed that just being able to live was the greatest happiness in the world. He deemed that whatever he wanted, regardless, he must obtain it, even if by unscrupulous means. If he couldn’t have it, he’d rather destroy it than let others have it. But seeing his son like this made him, as a father, feel a bit unwilling in his heart.

”Child, no matter what you’ve done, I am your father, and I will always be tolerant of you. As long as you don’t repeatedly misunderstand me, you should believe me. After all, I am also a son, and I cannot have the heart to hurt my own father. Even if I haven’t been by his side all these years, and even if the feelings have become distant, he is still my father. It’s not something I can change at will. I can’t abandon you all repeatedly, so no matter what happens, I won’t hurt him. You should also trust your father a little when necessary, even if it’s just a little bit of trust, it would not have led our family to become like this now.

Child, deep down you know very well that all these years, no matter what, we never intended to hurt you all. You all just have a persecution paranoia, always thinking we are plotting something by living in this house. Who wants to harm you? But we are part of this family, your relatives. How could we bear to harm you? How could anyone benefit from harming you? We never thought of how much loss and hurt all these things would bring us. You should consider our feelings as parents. We are your parents, and no matter what you say about us, we can overlook it, but it doesn’t mean that none of these things hurt me. I am not a saint; I am flesh and blood, with a soul. Facing the doubts from my relatives time and again, I also feel sad.”

Zhang Yichen knew that his father’s words made a lot of sense, but he simply couldn’t bring himself to fully trust his parents. After all, all the things they’ve done over the years are vivid before his eyes, and he has no way to forget. If one day he can truly forget all the mistakes, perhaps he could truly accept them. For now, allowing them back into this home and to stay is already good enough. Why are they still so greedy to want more of him, to keep accepting them? Isn’t this forcing too much? Everything has an adaptation period; if they don’t even give the basic adaptation period, how could he accept them, and how can he tell right from wrong and know if they’ve truly repented?

”Dad, I know that no matter what we do wrong, in your eyes we are always your children. You wouldn’t question us, but it doesn’t mean that all the things you’ve done can be as if they never happened. Some things are painful wounds that are impossible to forget. Did you ever consider how much hurt you brought us? I can’t just easily forget now that Grandfather is truly crying because of what you said. That’s why I ran here in anger to confront you, but I wasn’t doing it on purpose. If you saw how sad Grandfather is now, could you really bear it deep down?

Everyone has different experiences, and the outcomes of facing things are indeed different. But why does it have to end this way every time? I know that over the years, the one who owes you the most is not Grandfather, but me. Because of me, Grandfather focused all of his love that should have been for you, onto me. He believed he owed you, so treating me well was equal to treating you well. He thought since I am your son, I should bear all the love he has for you. He took me as you. But deep down, who they truly need is still you, not me. No matter how much good they say about me in front of others, how capable I am, deep down, who they need and love most is always you. No one can change that.

The bond between father and son is irreplaceable by anyone.

If you truly feel guilty towards Grandfather, then please, go apologize to him sincerely. As time passes, we will forget all the unhappy and unpleasantness before, but that doesn’t mean Grandfather can. His suffering is greater than anyone’s, and what he wants is less than anyone, but what have we given him over the years? He’s faced one blow after another, silently, bearing all the pain alone. Because he knows, only by being strong himself can he protect those he wants to protect.”

I’ve stolen the love that belonged to you for so many years, and that was my fault. I sincerely apologize to you. I never intended to hurt any of you with everything I did. I just hope that Grandfather can be happy and always smiling. That is the happiest thing for me because it’s he who gave me a second life. You all should understand this feeling — I am repaying a kindness. No matter time or place, no one’s status can surpass his place in my heart because he is my grandfather, the master of my second life!”

Life is full of twists and turns, and no one’s life is perfectly smooth!
