My Alleged Husband

Chapter 749: Chapter 719: Your Flee in Defeat_1

Zhang Yichen never imagined that his father could be so foolish, willing to wait here, foolishly and endlessly, for his mother. Yet, he might not realize that he too might spend his entire life waiting for a definite answer from his wife, perhaps engaging in a purposeless wait. Such waiting is foolish, and perhaps, in the eyes of others, laughable.

But to him, it was the happiest and most beautiful thing. He had never thought about what kind of ending his life would bring, yet all he wanted was a stable and peaceful life.

Xia Jing knew very well that her husband was waiting for a clear reply from her, yet she was always so fickle and would never tell him, just foolishly letting her husband wait on.

It was unclear if she was just using her husband or what she was playing at, but in her eyes, as long as someone was waiting for her, it was a testament to her personal charm. She never considered whether others might get hurt by such an outcome. All she cared about was herself, selfishly living life, making everyone think that they were in the wrong, and only she was right.

”Dad, haven’t you ever thought about it? Maybe, in your foolish waiting, all you’ll end up with is his trickery. He won’t ever give you his sincerity, he won’t fall in love with you. So what meaning is there to keep waiting like this?

”Do you need to be covered in scars to feel satisfied? Do you need to see your own heart, torn and tortured again and again, riddled with holes, before you can be content?

”I’ve never seen anyone as foolish as you. Knowing that your wife’s heart does not belong to you, why must you exhaust yourself for her sake, step by step you give everything for her, but what are you in her eyes?

”Oh my father! Can’t you stop being so foolish? Watching you act so foolishly pains me, your descendant. You have already given enough, but what have you received in the end? Why do you torment yourself step by step?”

Zhang Zhentian himself did not know why he tortured himself so. All he wanted was a stable life, yet he never received his wife’s true affection. So what meaning did his existence in this world hold?

Had he known from the start that he did not have a place in the depths of her heart, he might have eventually let go of her over time. Yet, why did he find himself increasingly unable to be apart from her, realizing step by step that he had deeply fallen for her, so deeply that he could no longer extract himself and had no way to leave her?

Wasn’t all of this the fate that was destined for him – destined to fall in love like this, destined to suffer like this for this matter? Since that was the case, why should he pretend that he was never aware of any of this?

”My child, you don’t understand. Just like the understanding between you and your wife, we as elders cannot comprehend it; it’s a kind of understanding that only exists when two people truly love each other. I had the same understanding with your mother. I can’t believe that deep down, I mean nothing to her. No matter how much her actions hurt me, I hope to always be by her side because I believe that one day I will move her, and she will deeply love me and never leave me again. Am I too naive? Maybe I really am, in your eyes...”

Xia Jing, overhearing her son talking to her husband in the other room, could hardly bear it anymore. What does it mean that she repeatedly does such things – had she done the same before? She couldn’t understand why her son harbored such great prejudice against her, and she knew she had to stand up now to clear things up, to let everyone know that she was not such a person.

”Enough, have you two said enough? What am I in your eyes? Am I truly so heartless? Is everything I do really wrong? Why won’t you try to feel my inner suffering?

”Yichen, you are my son, yes, but what does all that I am doing have to do with you? I just wanted to get along well with your father; without that, there could be no happiness between us. Why can’t you understand what lies deep inside our hearts?

”And you, Zhang Zhentian, you run away before even hearing me out. You could die, but are you really so afraid I’ll reject you? Do you really think I would definitely accept you? You don’t understand me at all. Do you think life with me would be happy and joyful?

”I truly wanted to agree with you when you said that. I wanted to travel the world with you, to see places we never visited before, to experience the boundless beauty of nature together. But what did you do? You ran away, and our son misunderstands so gravely because of it. Am I supposed to be happy seeing the misunderstanding between me and our child deepen? You once wished for us not to be like this, so why do you think now that doing so is for my good? Don’t you know? Your cowardly escape has caused such a big misunderstanding to arise in our son’s mind. I simply cannot forgive it!”

Zhang Zhentian had not expected that his wife had never intended to reject him; she had simply wanted to live a happy and blissful life together. So why had he chosen to sneak away at that moment? Why didn’t he have the courage to face even a bit of difficulty? It was because of this that he ended up in the current state. Was this really what he wanted?

”Xia Jing, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have been so cowardly. If I had been brave enough to face you, regardless of your acceptance or rejection, I should have stood there. I shouldn’t have run away. It was my cowardice that led to this outcome, that caused such misunderstandings in our son; I am truly sorry. Can you forgive me?”
