My Alleged Husband

Chapter 732: Chapter 702 Living for Oneself_1

Zhang Zhentian had already spoken, and with such words, as a father, what else could he say now?

His own son had already made such a decision, so he, as a father, should not interfere in these matters anymore, no matter what.

Perhaps only by experiencing it themselves could they understand the pain and realize that some things were not so easily forgiven, that the consequences of one’s past mistakes ultimately had to be borne by the decisions one made.

”Do as you wish, every decision is yours to make, anyway, every word we as elders say falls on deaf ears to you, in your eyes all of us as elders are dispensable, you only have eyes for your wife. If that’s the case, why bother coming back to this family to frustrate me again? Did you come back just to send me to the hospital once more?”

Can’t you show a little filial piety towards your own biological father? What harm would it do to indulge me a little bit?

I am your biological father; how could everything I say and do possibly harm you?

Why can’t you appreciate what you’ve got? Why do you insist on hurting those who love you the most again and again before you can finally rest?”

Old Master Zhang was truly at the end of his patience; he’d never imagined that after such a long time of gentle persuasion, his son would remain indifferent.

No matter what he as a father said, in the eyes of his son, everything he, as a father, said was wrong. Could it be that he was such a failure as a father?

In you’re son’s eyes, is everything I do wrong?

Is doing even a single right thing really so abnormal?

Xia Jing knew that Old Master Zhang was angry. She really didn’t want to see her husband at odds with anyone in the family because of her. She felt her sins growing heavier, as every lie she told ultimately harmed every sincere person in the family, causing those who truly loved her to be hurt again and again. How many more mistakes would she have to make in her life to finally rest, to stop causing any harm to those who loved her the most?

”How can you speak to Father like that? What he said is not without reason. It was my fault to begin with. Whatever he has said and done to you was in your best interest. Why can’t you understand a father’s deep concern?”

We abandoned our child, and she struggled alone to raise our son. Do you even consider how difficult it has been for him?

One should learn to be grateful. Although I have taken many wrong turns and dragged you around the world, I still have gratitude in my heart, grateful to him for raising my son.

How much has my son sacrificed because of my decisions? How much has he lost? Who can truly understand?”

In the eyes of Old Master Zhang, everything Xia Jing said now seemed nothing more than an act, a show for others. He no longer wanted to see her pretend in front of him. She seemed so harmless, but in the end, hadn’t this woman caused chaos in the family over and over again?

”Enough, there’s no need for you to keep acting in front of me.

Every conflict between father and son, wasn’t it all because of you? Ever since you came into our lives, we have never had a peaceful conversation. I’ve been repeatedly hospitalized because of her, but when did you ever come to see me or keep me company? Over the years, though you verbally thank me for raising our child, I don’t need your thanks because he is a descendant of the Zhang Family.

No matter what, I will spare no effort to raise him because he is the only heir of our household. No matter what you have done in the past, I could overlook all of it, but I truly cannot stay out of this matter. Whatever agreement you’ve come to with each other means nothing to me.

What I want is nothing more than a promise between you two, a pledge to never again act out of line in this lifetime. When you act, can you not consider the feelings of us, your family?”

Old Master Zhang found being with his own family to be extremely exhausting. Why did every word he say seem to them as if he were out to harm them? Why could they not put themselves in his shoes and consider his perspective? He too wanted a peaceful life; he had never intended to interfere with their marital happiness. But the actions they took time and time again were unbearable to him.

In marriage, isn’t the greatest thing loyalty? And then trust? Without loyalty and trust, what meaning is there in being together?

The more he thought about it, the less he understood, the more lost he felt. Why was every decision he made never forgiven in the eyes of his own family? What had his sacrifices achieved?

He now felt profoundly disillusioned. He was once willing to do anything for his family, but in the end, all that he received was their misunderstanding.

”Right now, I don’t want to say anything more. I just hope that both of you think carefully. Are you living this life for others or for yourselves? If it’s for others, then your life loses all meaning. If it’s for yourselves, then please live with your own flair, and stop giving up what you truly want just to consider others. That’s not living for yourselves; that’s living for a blind goal!”

In her heart, Xia Jing was clear, her life would never be for herself, but for the man she loved the most.
