My Alleged Husband

Chapter 730: Chapter 700: Heart of Iron_1

Old Master Zhang listened outside to the conversation between his son and daughter-in-law. He had been listening for so long, yet he could not detect a single correct sentence.

He had always thought that his son was actually a person with high emotional intelligence, but he had not realized that his son was really so foolish. Should a woman really be treated in this way? If this was the right approach, then why did other women always avoid him upon seeing him?

He could no longer restrain himself, he really stepped forward, pushed open the door, and stood in his son’s bedroom, looking at his son and daughter-in-law. He wanted to properly lecture his son and daughter-in-law.

”Dad, how come you’re here?” Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing asked in unison the moment they saw Old Master Zhang push the door open and enter.

”Why can’t I be here? If I don’t come now, will the two of you ever finish? I’ve been listening outside for so long, have neither of you realized your own mistakes?”

Zhang Zhentian, are you not even the least bit dignified or spirited as my son? A woman who doesn’t love you just doesn’t love you, no matter how much you do for her, she won’t fall in love with you. Since that’s the case, why are you shamelessly trying to be with her? If her heart doesn’t include you after numerous sacrifices on your part, and you’re willing to forsake even your life for her, does she really regard you as the person she loves most?

She never will, because deep in her heart, she has given it to someone else, and you will never win her heart in this lifetime!

A happy marriage needs effort from both people, but on the premise of a happy marriage, both must also have profound feelings and sufficient trust for each other. Do you think you two still have such profound feelings and basic trust for each other now? Each of you is suspicious of the other; do you really think this is happiness?

I never thought my son, whom I worked so hard to raise, could be so foolish. You don’t apply yourself to the business acumen I told you about, fine, I can accept that as you being skilled in your own right, but why can’t you even learn the bare minimum? Don’t you know how to protect your own dignity? Do you allow your wife to repeatedly criticize and berate you, while you? You can only apologize to her over and over again; do you think that will make her tender-hearted?

Xia Jing felt very embarrassed upon hearing her father-in-law say such things, and could only foolishly smile. However, her smile just angered Old Master Zhang even more.

”What are you laughing at? Do you find it amusing that your husband keeps sacrificing everything for you, even his life? Are you truly heartless? Deep down, do you really feel nothing about how your husband treats you? Isn’t trying to be with him and accepting him also a kind of happiness for you?

Sometimes, don’t take certain things too seriously, because while you may find it happy, it might be painful for the people around you.

Perhaps you still haven’t realized what you’ve done wrong. You’ve hidden your feelings and brought harm to my son, who is now caught in emotional turmoil because of you, from which he may never recover in this lifetime.

Do you think you are happy with him? Are you happy together? Is this really the life you want deep down? You never considered what you should do in this lifetime; you only knew what decisions you made would lead to what results!

”I really can’t understand what you two as a husband and wife are fighting over. Why are you so entangled over one thing for so long? I keep hearing my son plead with you in his voice, asking you to try being with him, but you? You are always so heartless, not even showing the least bit of a smile or respect for him!

Regardless of anything else, you are still husband and wife legally. Do you really think it is appropriate to keep fighting like this? Seeing your partner lower their head in front of you over and over again, do you really feel happy and thrilled about it?

Sometimes you take his kindness for granted; when you get used to his good treatment and one day he suddenly changes, you feel as if he has changed, and the whole world has abandoned you.

But has he really changed? Has he really abandoned you? It’s just that you have hurt him deeply, and he doesn’t know how to express it to you anymore. He can only pretend to be a hedgehog, lashing out at whoever he meets because that’s the only way he can protect himself, to ensure he doesn’t suffer heartache ever again. You never think about what he’s been through; you only know what you want. The happiness you’re looking for is something she cannot give, but he can. So why not appreciate the many things she’s done for you and try to give her some happiness, and try to make yourself happy too?

There are some things I know I shouldn’t say outright, but I hope you both can think it over thoroughly. Only decisions made after careful consideration are correct and won’t lead to regret. If you rashly make a decision and end up regretting it for the rest of your life, then what’s the point of having made that choice?”

Both Xia Jing and Elder Zhang felt that their father was right.

Xia Jing wondered if she really was a person with a heart of stone. Why, after her husband had humbled himself time and again and spoken such touching words to her, did she choose to ignore it? Why, when her husband humbled himself repeatedly before her, did she only choose to cruelly reject and evade?

Sometimes, just looking at two photos, she felt her temperament was truly heartless. No matter how much she gave, it was inconsequential in his eyes; he would never change his opinion based on her efforts. He only knew her relentless sacrifices for him were met with his steely indifference, which still pained her deeply.
