My Alleged Husband

Chapter 742: Chapter 712 Admitting Eavesdropping_1

Zhang Zhentian was very clear in his heart that the words he said today might truly hurt his son’s sincere feelings for him, but he had no choice but to do so. He couldn’t bear to have anyone speak ill of his demeanor in his presence. He knew that the one thing he must do in his life was to protect his wife well and not let anyone bully her.

Perhaps in this process, he would hurt those who loved him over and over again because of it, but he had no way to change such an end. He could only do as he must, and each time he made such a decision, he would struggle and feel pain. Yet, the ones in front of him were the people he loved most and who loved him, but for his beloved wife, he still chose to hurt them.

But every time he saw the look of disappointment in his father’s eyes, how could his heart feel nothing? How could he remain indifferent? But some things had become set, he had no way to change them, nor any way to make everything different.

When he saw his own child looking at him with the same disappointment that his father had for him, he was truly conflicted and struggled. Yet, he still spoke those cruel and heartless words.

The reason for all he did was not for anything else, but so his wife could have peace of mind, offering whatever she wanted with both hands.

However, this time he was unable to offer everything with both hands. This issue was also a challenge to his dignity; he couldn’t treat it as unimportant. Yet, every decision he made would ultimately hurt every person who loved him.

Xia Jing unconsciously walked into the guest room at this time. She felt that she must still clarify some things with Zhang Zhentian. If she let him continue to foolishly give everything for her, then in the end, she would really find it all too cruel.

When Zhang Zhentian saw Xia Jing enter his bedroom, he realized his wife might have been standing outside the door eavesdropping all along, but he chose to say nothing. He waited for his wife to speak up herself. If his wife rejected him again this time, then he could only choose to give up. Putting one’s heart out for too long could also lead to exhaustion. Time after time, offering his sincerity, only to be trampled carelessly by others—who would be willing to offer their heart again?

”Zhentian, I was standing outside the door and heard all your conversation with your son. I want to talk to you about this matter seriously!” Xia Jing said.

”You speak, whatever result you come up with, whatever decision you make, I won’t blame you. I will be very happy,” he replied.

”I think you’re really silly. Why do you treat me this way? You know that the person in my heart is not you. But why, when I hear you saying such cruel and heartless things to your child over and over again, does my heart ache?”

”Have you not thought about how you’re hurting those who love you because of me? Do you know how disappointed our father is in you? He never thought his son would give up his dignity over and over again for a woman.”

”Do you know how much you’ve sacrificed for me? You clearly know what I want in my heart, but acting this way only makes my heart struggle more!” she protested.

”Actually, you still have me in your heart, right? If not, you wouldn’t be struggling over these matters. Do you know? I also hope that you could change a little, just a little bit!” he entreated.

”I had thought I could continue to be hardhearted, not swayed by anything you do or say. But today, I must voice my true feelings.”

”Hearing the things you do for me, the words you say, my heart is really moved. I’m not a heartless person; I too have my own desires and difficulties. I behave this way only to let you live peacefully the life you deserve, not to disturb your life with my presence.”

”Now that you have sacrificed so much for me repeatedly, how can I continue to be indifferent and stand by coldly? I have decided to try accepting you!”

”Perhaps you no longer need me to accept you. Gradually, you should have forgotten about my coldness towards you. Maybe all you have for me now is hatred, because after all the heartbreaking things I’ve done, how could you possibly treat me with the same devoted heart as before? Isn’t that right?” she queried.

Zhang Zhentian, hearing Xia Jing say she was willing to try accepting him, was truly happy. He was so excited he could barely contain himself. He had never imagined that this day would come simply because of a conversation with his son. What he wanted was not much, just a simple attempt, and maybe after this one time, she would be able to devote herself to him, no longer thinking about her first love.

”What are you talking about? From the beginning to the end, no matter how many mistakes you make, I never hate you. In my heart, there’s no one comparable to you. All I want is to stand securely by your side. Even if you keep being cold to me for a lifetime, I am happy. As long as I can look up and see you every day, that is happiness to me!”

”Don’t think I’m foolish; actually, I’m not foolish at all. The foolish one is you. I just want to stay peacefully by your side. I feel I haven’t reached the point of making a full comeback. I haven’t given my all for you yet, but you are already moved and slowly thinking about accepting me. That is the best reward I could ask for in this world. I can lose everything, but I just can’t be without you!” he declared.

”You are really a fool. Haven’t you seen the disappointed looks from your child and father? Haven’t you seen how worried they are for you?”

”But why do you still offend them for me? Why do you still hurt them, and their pure and humble love for you?” she questioned.

In Xia Jing’s eyes, there was no one in the world as foolish as her husband, who was so foolish that he would spare no effort for her, even hurting his father repeatedly. It was nothing short of a dream to find such a good husband. But why couldn’t she let go of that person and only keep testing him repeatedly?
