My Alleged Husband

Chapter 741: Chapter 712 Turn Around_1

Zhang Zhentian knew that every word his son said was true, yet he had spent his whole life wanting to love in just this way: to love once, earnestly hoping to love Xia Jing wholeheartedly.

He felt it was not easy to find someone who truly loved you in a lifetime, and even though the person he loved did not harbor the same feelings for him, was there really any harm in being the only one capable of loving her?

If he always obsessed over efficiency in his actions, always concerned with whether others would reciprocate his efforts, constantly wondering if his contributions could indeed bring about gratitude from others.

If that were really the case, what meaning would there be left to living in this world? If that was how he lived, apart from feeling the thrill of transactions with others, what kind of true love could he possibly find? Would anyone be willing to stay with him if they felt that his giving was just a transaction?

”Child, everyone perceives things differently. Don’t try to impose your way of thinking on me; it’s impractical. If my heart is truly set on loving her, no matter what anyone says, nothing will change because of your decisions. Just give up on that notion.”

However you look at it, she is your mother after all.

You should at least have the basic respect for your own mother. What happens between her and me has nothing to do with you. Just live your life peacefully, why bother getting involved? Doing so will only make everyone think you are extraordinary, and such actions won’t yield any good results, nor will they garner any praise!”

Zhang Yichen was really about to be infuriated by his father. He had done all this only for his father’s sake; why in his father’s eyes was everything he did wrong? Was he really so unreasonable?

All he had wanted was for the family to live peacefully, to make his mother realize just how much his father loved her, possibly touching her enough to develop feelings for his father, even if only a little.

But in his father’s eyes, his actions were simply superfluous; he would never be thankful for what he did, instead feeling that Yichen was being too meddlesome.

”Do whatever you want. I won’t interfere in your affairs anymore, nor will I inquire. Whatever you love doing with my mom, go ahead. I tried to help you out of goodwill, but you think I’m harming you!”

Even though I may harbor great complaints and resentment towards you, I will never harm you because you are my father. I am dissatisfied with my mother, but I have never thought about causing discord between you because of it!

You are underestimating me too much. Do I not even have the most basic principles of being a person? Just because you abandoned me, does that mean everything I do must be driven by vengeance?

Vengeance is not my intention. I will not seek revenge for anything. If I really wanted to take revenge, your quarreling would not be so trivial. I don’t speak of certain things, not because I can endure them. You wrong me time and again; in your eyes, what am I, really? So easily wronged and never once considering what my heart truly desires?

Even if you’ve done many wrongs to me, I won’t seek revenge. The years I’ve spent on my education won’t be wasted. After working so hard for so many years, I’ve pushed myself to the pinnacle of my life. Why would I let you ruin my prospects for the future?”

Was I supposed to gamble my entire life’s happiness and fate just for retaliation against a moment of impulsion from the past? I’m no fool, I wouldn’t do such a thing, because it’s simply not worth it!

Today, when I made the choice to reveal all this to you, you ruthlessly suspected that I was out to harm you. The moment I turn my back, I will stop caring about you altogether. Whatever happens to you won’t affect me in the slightest!

Because I’ve no longer any ties to you. I simply want you to understand clearly that some things should be done, and some should not; some behaviors cannot be indulged. Since you’ve made your decision today, you should not blame others for a lack of reciprocation, no matter the cost you face in the future.”

After Zhang Yichen finished speaking, he truly turned and left. He felt that if he stayed any longer, he would suffocate. He had come with good intentions to help his father, but why did it seem to his own father that he was only causing harm?

Was he really so fierce and terrifying that everyone had to retreat three feet upon seeing him?

Xia Jing knew that her son was about to emerge, so she quickly turned away.

She absolutely could not let her child know that she had overheard everything from outside the door. If he found out, her son’s disapproval of her would only grow stronger. Although she knew that her son had no malice in his words, in her heart it still hurt.

That was her own son, so why were his biases against her so strong?

In her son’s eyes, was she really nothing more than a mother beyond redemption, someone who no matter what she did was wrong, without a single correct decision? She wondered what she had done in her life to cause such strong prejudice from her child.

When she first heard her husband answer her son, she was filled with unhappiness.

She had treated her husband poorly, yet he had defended her time and again when others spoke ill of her in his presence.

Could she not open her heart to him just a little bit?

If she opened up just a tiny part of her heart to him and let it settle inside her, might the outcome have been entirely different? All a man really wants is his wife’s sincere love, not for her to be constantly thinking of another man. Such a thing is exceedingly cruel and heartless to a person.

Maybe she really should learn to press that button. Otherwise, when he truly turns away someday, that’s when she’ll realize what she’s lost in her life. And if that day ever comes, wouldn’t it be too late?

Perhaps the world really is fair after all, forcing one to let go of things they never want to release and thus accept a reality that they could never accept in their entire life...
