My Alleged Husband

Chapter 650: Chapter 629 Welcome Home_1

Zhang Yichen swiftly packed up Old Master Zhang’s luggage, and his father, Old Master Zhang, was brought back home. Throughout the journey, Old Master Zhang silently sat in his grandson’s car. He didn’t say a word, but his grandson could tell that his grandfather was truly happy. That kind of smile was genuine, one that could not be faked.

”Grandpa, you’ve always wanted to be discharged from the hospital. Today, you finally got your wish. Are you happy inside? I know you’ve always wanted to live comfortably at home. But due to our circumstances, you ended up in the hospital this time. We’ll never let this happen again. You can stay at home peacefully. Trust me, our family will live together happily...”

”Nothing is more important to a grandchild than his grandparents. The important thing is that all of you can live happily. As for me, an old man, I don’t have too many desires. Just knowing my family is happy, seeing everyone smile every day, for an old person like me, that’s the joy of family union.

You should know how difficult it is for the elderly to enjoy the happiness of family. No one can just have it without any reason. Often, as long as we can live happily together, that’s what matters most for any situation. Nobody would care about any unpleasant past as long as we can live happily in the future. What does the past matter then?”

Zhang Yichen smiled. He thought his grandfather’s words made a lot of sense. His grandfather was always so understanding, always considering everyone’s welfare, tirelessly working for the sake of the family without ever considering what he really felt inside. He had always been busy with family matters and had never lived for himself. From the beginning to the end, he had been thinking of others, and his life must have been so hard.

”Grandpa, you’ve lived your whole life for others, never considering yourself. Aren’t you tired? If you had only thought about living for yourself a little, why would you have ended up like this? You should understand that some feelings are deep-rooted and can’t easily change. I believe you actually bear no ill will towards my father, but my father misinterpreted your intentions!

I can’t understand how my own father could misconstrue your intentions, and yet you still wholeheartedly consider his future life. That must be so exhausting for you. But you’ve never complained because I know you’ve spent your life quietly giving for others, living for others, never considering what you want for yourself. You always stand in others’ shoes but what about yourself? You end up so tired out because of it. Have you ever considered your own future? You’ve never complained, but sometimes, seeing you live so hard, it really makes my heart ache. Yet as a junior, I can’t speak outright about many things. I can only quietly watch you again and again sacrifice for everyone, watch you get so tired you end up in the hospital, yet you still remain silent. How painful do you think this makes us feel as your descendants? You’re the grandfather who raised me, the one who is responsible for my achievements today. Yet I couldn’t protect you, which makes me feel like a failure...”

”Child, don’t talk like that. To a grandparent, protecting our family’s happiness is more important than anything else. In my heart, I have no other demands or extravagant hopes for this life. You know the path I chose and that path will ultimately decide what my life looks like. You’ve gone through so much hardship, your choices will definitely not disappoint me!

I spent most of my life living for others, let me now spend my remaining days living for the life I want. Don’t try to deliberately change yourself, don’t betray your true self.”

...

As they talked and drove, they soon arrived home. Returning to his home, Old Master Zhang saw his daughter-in-law standing at the door to greet him. He was moved and happy, and above all, he felt gratified and touched that his love for the family was not in vain and was rewarded.

”Grandpa, you’re back, welcome home!

It’s all my fault, Grandpa. If I hadn’t argued with my husband at home, how could you have ended up in the hospital feeling uneasy? You’ve always considered our family’s happiness, but we’ve never taken into account your feelings as an elder. We’ve neglected you, ignored that you too needed care from us as the younger generation. We’ve been so self-righteous. From now on, I’ll make sure to stay by your side. My son and I will be with you every day to keep you company, so you can enjoy the joy of family union. Let my husband earn the money for the family’s expenses. I believe with his clever brain, he can certainly support our entire family...”

Ran Zhihan thus shifted all the responsibilities onto her husband.

When Zhang Yichen heard his wife passing the duties onto him, he couldn’t help but smile broadly.

He knew that the family’s happiness had returned to its former state. He was aware that no change, no appearance, and no incident would alter this situation. Honestly, it was a great relief.

”If the lady of the house has spoken, then how can I not work hard to earn money and provide for the family? Damn, I even planned to have another child. If I don’t work hard to provide, what will become of my son?”

Zhang Ni just happened to run out to greet Elder Zhang when she heard her father make such a statement. She quickly ran to her father to correct him.

”Dad, you’re wrong. You’re working so hard to earn money, not for me, your son, but so you can have another little brother or sister with Mom. I’m not unaware of it. I will support myself in the future; I don’t want to rely on my parents. That would be so embarrassing, especially since I’m a man!”
