My Alleged Husband

Chapter 611: Chapter 590 Unforgettable Love_1

Ran Zhihan, at this moment, suddenly didn’t know what to say to express the excitement and gratitude in his heart. Although he knew that what had happened wasn’t wrong for anyone involved, it was he who was at fault. It was because of him that these two men had become so numb. If it weren’t for him, how could they have encountered so many setbacks? After all, what right did he have to blame others? He too had loved deeply and indelibly, hadn’t he?

”Chen Gang, I now have no words to express my feelings for you, but I hope you can believe me. Just as you have loved me deeply and indelibly, I also had such love for my husband—no less than yours. On the contrary, I’m very grateful that my husband has loved me all his life, and he never gave up searching for me for so many years. My love for him is as profound as your love is for me, willing to sacrifice everything. But do you know? It’s precisely for this reason that I don’t want you to waste your time on me. It’s so cruel to you. Do you understand? Knowing all along that the one you’re waiting for is someone you’ll never get in this lifetime, why then continue to foolishly wait, especially after wasting your entire youth, your whole lifetime? That’s just too unfair to you!”

If you wait for me and I ultimately can’t choose to be with you, imagine how painful, how guilty I would feel. I can’t picture what kind of end I would face, but I hope you know that we were once the best of friends. I’ve always kept you in my heart, but that’s not affection. Even if there was affection, it wasn’t the romantic kind, so you’ve been wrong all along. The heartbeats you felt weren’t the kind between a man and a woman.

Perhaps what I’m saying seems cruel, but I can’t help it. Some things must be made clear, or you’ll feel worse, and you’ll sink deeper until you fall into an abyss from which you can’t escape. I can’t let you take that step; I can’t just watch you jump into a pit of fire, and as your friend, stand by idly, unable to help you!”

Chen Gang smiled. He knew it then; all of this was just his own wishful thinking. In the end, he was the one infatuated. The woman before him had never considered being with him from the start. So why had he foolishly waited? For what, for something that would never come to fruition? What was the meaning of his years of waiting? After giving so many years of sincerity, only to be repaid with an apology, how could he balance the feelings in his heart? But since he had made his choice—to let go—how could he deceive her again, harm her, and the family that could have been happy? How could he bear to see her in agony?

”You’ll never be able to guess what’s truly in my heart, but your words have moved me deeply. Do you know? I truly can’t tell you how I feel inside. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to see your happiness in the future without making another impulsive gesture. I can’t promise that I’ll never come looking for you again in my lifetime, that I won’t disturb your life, because I’m not a saint. My heart has its concerns too, and there can be someone whose memory I can’t let go of for a lifetime. Do you understand?”

”I understand. But it is precisely because of this that I can’t bear to see you sacrifice so much for me. To wait for someone for so long and never receive him is such a painful thing. I can’t let you endure that pain. I consider you my best friend. How could I just watch you accumulate all that sorrow while I enjoy happiness on my own? I’m not such a cold-hearted person. But I hope you know that some things, once happened, cannot be undone. So, do you understand what I should do? I hope one day you can clearly remember that I truly loved you and that there was a man who loved you unconditionally, named Chen Gang!”

”I believe that one day you will find a woman who will treat you well, who will be willing to give everything for you as you have for me. If that day comes, please hold her hand tightly and never let go. I believe she will be good to you. Don’t tell her about me, or she might choose not to be with you!”

I hope you know I’m doing this for your own good. Maybe my decision is hard for your heart to accept, and maybe you still don’t quite understand what I’m saying, but I hope you realize I’ve always seen you as a friend. There can’t be other feelings between us because it’s not possible. I have my own family, my own responsibilities, and as a woman, I must uphold my duty. I can’t betray my family. But I hope you can endure my predicament.”

”Don’t worry. Now that you’ve spoken to this extent, how could I not understand your earnest intentions? I’m not the kind of person who doesn’t know when to stop.

From now on, just live well with your husband. I won’t disturb you anymore. My presence has already caused you too much pain, and I can’t bear to see you continue to suffer. Trust that my love for you will never change. On the contrary, I will love you my whole life, a love unaltered through the ages!”

”Thank you so much. I’ve caused you much harm by being in your life, but do you know how much I wish you could live happily?

Don’t let my presence ruin your life! Your life should be joyful, yet I’ve disrupted so many years of peace. I hope you won’t resent me, won’t hate me, but continue to see me as a good friend. That would be more than enough gratitude for me. I have no right to ask for more, but can I still hope to be friends with you?”

Ran Zhihan smiled, ”Of course, we’re already good friends!

No matter how many years pass by, that’s an unchangeable fact...”
