My Alleged Husband

Chapter 612: Chapter 591 Disappointment_1

Chen Gang saw the girl he loved laughing so happily before his very eyes, and he knew that this time, he had finally made a right decision. Seeing the person he loved so happy, so joyful, what reason did he have to destroy her happiness? Nothing was more important than the happiness of the girl he loved. The things he had done in the past were simply too heartbreaking, too chilling.

But now, he had finally come to understand everything. Maybe Heaven was just waiting for the day he would have this epiphany. Now that he had completely grasped everything, maybe things would truly be different. He hoped they could meet again someday, and he hoped that when they did meet again, she would still be smiling as radiantly as she was now, never again to shed tears over any misfortune.

”Zhihan, do you know? Only now, as I see your radiant smile, do I realize that what I’ve always wanted wasn’t your love for me. What I wanted was just to watch you from a distance, to see you living happily - that was enough. I’ve never truly understood what kind of life I wanted until I saw your radiant smile. I’m sorry, it was I who hurt you, turned you into that saddened figure, made your heart ache, and disrupted the harmony between you and your husband.

Not everyone in this world is perfect, and I understand that many things cannot be obtained by force. However, I hope that one day we can still be together, as happy as we are now. No matter what you will think of me in the future, no matter how you will regard me, I ask you to remember that once there was a boy who deeply devoted himself to you, ready to pay any price. In the end, your paths crossed, and this sentiment, I hope you can understand this fate, and remember it thoroughly...”

”Chen Gang, I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you hadn’t come to your senses and decided to let me go, I wouldn’t be as happy as I am now. You allowed me to be this way, and you helped me understand what true love is. Do you know how happy I am to have been able to be with you, to become your best friend? I cherish the years we lived together when you were always such a bright, sunny boy. I don’t want you to change your original intentions because of anything; you are a kind-hearted person. Don’t let other troubles darken your heart, and don’t let your years of hard work go to waste!

Believe me, life’s road is full of ups and downs, but there is always sunshine waiting for us. Don’t let my presence ruin your happiness for a lifetime. I hope that one day you can find your true soulmate, and when that happens, I will be so happy. Although I may not say much, do you know? My heart isn’t bad. I just hope that the people I care about can live happily. That’s enough for me. Perhaps you don’t understand why I feel this way, but one day you’ll know that being with you is not about possession!”

Chen Gang nodded and said, ”You’re right; now I’ve thoroughly understood all these points of view. Do you know how desperate and regretful I felt when I realized that I could never have the girl I loved most in my life? I hated myself for being so useless, for not being able to keep the girl I loved most by my side. At that moment, I felt such a failure, and a deep sense of defeat invaded my heart from its deepest depths.

You might not understand that kind of despair in life, but do you know? My life became colorful with you, no longer as desperate as before. This is what you gave me, and you made me realize that life isn’t perfect. No one in this world can be perfect. Even if someone seems to have it all, they still have weaknesses, they still have flaws!

My life was given by my parents, and my path is chosen by myself. In the end, no one else can control which road I should take; I must guide myself to the right path. If my heart were truly twisted, then what use would a lifetime of wealth be? Eventually, one can’t escape the law’s punishment.

Everyone knows that the law’s net is vast yet precise; no one knows what they’ll become, but the only thing we can decide is what kind of person we should be. I don’t have many ideals in my life, but my greatest aspiration is not to bring the greatest joy to others, but to avoid hurting those I love the most.

After all, we have lived together for so many years, and there was no good way for us to continue that way, but we have always been friends. Remember, no matter when or where, you always have a friend in me, silently supporting you, silently applauding you. When I see your life shine, I will laugh for you; when I see your happy and joyful life, I will rejoice for you. But if I see you sad and in tears, I will still feel pain for you inside. You must understand that your happiness is my joy, and your sorrow is my grief. Knowing all this might make you aware of how much I’m unwilling to part with you!”

”Chen Gang, I’m sorry, I ultimately failed to live up to your good intentions, your deep love. I don’t know how to describe all of this to you. I can only say I’m deeply sorry. Perhaps we really don’t have a chance in this life; maybe we are destined but without fate. But I truly hope that if there’s an afterlife, you could come and confess to me earlier. Maybe then I would make a different choice, wouldn’t I? Every path is chosen by oneself, and every choice determines the end. So, you should know that the reason we’ve ended up like this after all these years has nothing to do with anyone else, and you don’t blame anyone. In the end, it’s just the result of the path you chose at the beginning. Who can you resent?”

Chen Gang thought about it and indeed found this reasoning sound. He had waited so many years with such effort, only to lose in the end!
