My Alleged Husband

Chapter 637: Chapter 616: Having a Daughter_1

Zhang Yichen and Ran Zhihan couldn’t simply stay at home, worried. They rushed back to their place, knowing their grandfather had chosen to forgive them, they were truly overjoyed. In the end, they had received their grandfather’s forgiveness. If even their own grandfather didn’t forgive them, their hearts would be too tormented to bear.

When the couple returned home, they saw their son training mercilessly as if nothing happened. Both of their eyes reddened, and their noses felt sore.

They always felt it was too cruel to treat their son this way. Why did they force onto their son everything they were unwilling to bear themselves? What fault did their son have? He just wanted to live a peaceful life—was that wrong too?

Zhang Yichen watched his son training so desperately and saw his younger self. He too had once endured great hardship for his own parents’ approval, taking each difficult step with bloody footprints.

He had not imagined that years later, it would be his son’s turn to prove to his grandparents that he was the most formidable one. Why was it always the parents who were the culprits? He was not content. No matter how he treated his parents, why did they continue to hurt the people around them, over and over again? Couldn’t he just love the people close to him in their eyes? As a father watching his child endure such torment, how could his heart not ache?

”Nai’er, Mom and Dad are back to see you. Can you stop training? Training like this every day isn’t the way. Just give up, and in the future you can join Dad in business. Together we’ll become the world’s economic kings, you don’t need to work so hard!”

Zhang Ni shook his head, telling his father, ”Dad, I know all that you’re doing is for my good, but I really want to continue training. I understand that when I get hurt during training, it causes you and Mom so much distress and worry. But I also hope that you can both live well together. I’m not afraid of hardship or even getting hurt during training. What I do fear is that Mom and Dad might leave me. I don’t want any of my parents to leave me!”

”I still want to prove to everyone with my own efforts that I am actually a formidable person. I don’t want others to look down on me, nor do I want them to say that I’m living a wealthy life just because my father is rich. I want to make my life wonderful with my own hands!”

Ran Zhihan’s heart ached even more after hearing her son speak this way. All of this had nothing to do with her son, yet why should he endure such hardships? Would he always be unable to escape this fate? Her son had suffered so much. If his grandparents refused to return, how tormented his heart must be. Having paid such a heavy price, receiving no recompense in the end—how much would that hurt him?

”My child, you really don’t need to train so hard. Training too much might harm your body. We just want you to live a safe and stable life. That would be enough to make us, as your parents, happy. We don’t expect you to achieve great things in your life, but at least we hope you can be joyful. We truly can’t bear to see you get hurt over and over again due to training. Seeing those scars on your hands, as a mother, my heart aches so much. Do you know that?”

How could Zhang Ni not know that his mother’s heart ached every time he got hurt? No matter the reason, he could not give up on training. It wasn’t just a promise he once made, it was also a condition he had to fulfill to convince his grandparents. If he couldn’t even endure this bit of hardship, how could he persuade his grandparents to wholeheartedly return home?

”Mom, don’t worry about me anymore,” I can take good care of myself. Just relax, okay? I’m not some little brat. I can make it on my own, step by step, and I know all your words come from a place of concern, to take care of my health. But I really don’t want to give up halfway. Those who quit halfway don’t deserve to be my dad’s son, and even less to be a descendant of the Zhang Family. I should grow on my own, making everyone respect me for my efforts!”

...

Yichen pulled Ran Zhihan back to the bedroom and said to her, ”Honey, our son is already so grown up, shouldn’t we also step it up and try for another child, a brother or sister for him ? That way, my son might give up his extreme training to take care of his sibling. Wouldn’t that be better?”

”When you put it that way, it does make some sense, but if we really could have a daughter, then our son would certainly take good care of his sister. Then he should be able to quit training, right? Husband, you’re a genius! To come up with such an idea—amazing!”

At that moment, Ran Zhihan had no clue that she had been duped by her husband. She always thought his words were reasonable, but when she reflected on them calmly later on, she realized it wasn’t that simple.

”Husband, you tricked me. Even if our son stops his training, that has nothing to do with us having a child. Having a daughter doesn’t interfere with our son’s training. He can look after his sister while continuing his training. In the end, you just wanted to have a little cotton jacket for yourself, didn’t you?”

Yichen suddenly felt a bit embarrassed; why had his wife so easily called out his true intentions? How could they continue with dignity? It seemed he needed to find another way to persuade his wife to have a little girl quickly, otherwise, his heart would inevitably follow his son’s.

”Alright alright, it was dear husband’s fault; dear husband shouldn’t have deceived you!

Please let bygones be bygones, spare your former husband’s face. Wouldn’t it be nice for us to have a daughter together? Having a little one hopping around the house every day would also make Grandpa happy, wouldn’t it? Having a little cotton jacket is really nice!”

Ran Zhihan fell into silence. She knew that sooner or later, she would have another child, but should she agree?
