My Alleged Husband

Chapter 636: Chapter 615: Sorry for the Worry_1

Zhang Yichen and Ran Zhihan knew in their hearts that such an outcome was best for the family. If their own headstrong actions led to the complete breakdown of the family, that would be a result neither of them wanted to see.

Not only did their actions allow those who loved them to feel happiness, but they also made their own lives more and more beautiful. If they couldn’t even manage that much, then what happiness could they find in this world?

Their minds were clearer than anyone else’s on this point: happiness depended on the joint efforts of two people. If it relied on just one person, then happiness would be forever out of reach in their lifetime. Neither of them was a saint, incapable of making everyone in the world love them, but if they could let go of their so-called dignity and face, then why would anyone want to be their enemy?

When Zhang Yichen thought about telling his grandfather first, he knew how much the old man doted on him. For Yichen, the old man had worried himself sick and spared no effort, ready to give even his life. Whether Yichen’s marriage was happy or not was connected to whether his grandfather could be happy, which was extremely important to him.

Today’s decision was also made to bring joy to his grandfather. By doing this, not only did he secure his own happy marriage, but he also provided comfort to his grandfather. He didn’t want to burden his hospitalized grandfather. The thought of his grandson still bustling about because of him was more than Yichen could bear.

”Zhihan, let’s go tell Grandfather the news. He should be very happy to hear it. We’re adults now, and we shouldn’t make the elders in our family worry due to our own stubbornness. You also know how much it matters to him that our family is happy and perfect. I believe that in your heart, you do not want to see Grandfather become disheartened and listless because of our issues. He deserves to live healthily!”

Ran Zhihan understood very well what her husband felt at that moment. She knew she couldn’t be so heartless and cold. She knew ever since she entered the Zhang Family, her grandfather-in-law had been helping her, never once berating her. Such a good elder was rare, and if her own unhappy marriage hurt him, how would she live with herself? Her guilt would only deepen. She would never allow such a thing to happen to her.

”I think you’re absolutely right. We should go and share this good news with Grandfather straight away. He is so kind and understanding and has sacrificed so much for our family. Our dispute, which caused him pain, was utterly unfilial. We should go and apologize to him sincerely, let him know that we do love him, that we do love our family, and tell him not to worry about us anymore!”

In that moment, Zhang Yichen suddenly realized how enchanting his wife was. She knew he had done wrong, yet she agreed to stay with him, forgiving all the insults he hurled at her, enduring so much injustice. And now, she was willing to go to the hospital with him to comfort his grandfather. Where else could he find such a wonderful wife? He knew he couldn’t be too greedy, or else the consequences of his misdeeds would ultimately catch up to him. He also knew the extent of hardship she had endured, and how much she had been mistreated by him.

”Zhihan, thank you, really, thank you for your understanding and for making such a great compromise. I am so grateful that fate has brought me to you. I apologize for every word I ever said to you. I really shouldn’t have insulted you like that; it was unfair to you. And yet, you still chose to forgive me. It’s really hard to bear!”

”Don’t say that. The wrongdoer is me, and it’s you who kept choosing to overlook the past and continue living with me. I am more than grateful. I also know one shouldn’t be too greedy, because greed leads to loss. Despite my faults, you didn’t kick me out. Instead, you chose to continue living with me. I can’t thank you enough. Without you, how could I possibly have the life I have today? Thank you for allowing my parents to rest easy, for giving me this beautiful life, and for your tolerance and magnanimity, for forgiving my stubbornness time and again! I love you...”

Undoubtedly, those last three words were incredibly sweet to the man before her.

He hugged her tightly; although such tender words were common during the courtship, it was rare to hear them from his wife’s lips after years of marriage. How could he not be moved?

The couple held hands and prepared to visit Old Master Zhang in the hospital. For Zhang Lei, the accompaniment of his family members was now most important. He didn’t care about anything else, but deeply cared whether his grandson was happy. He was willing to forego his health, his life, but he couldn’t bear to watch his grandson’s marriage fall apart.

When Old Master Zhang saw his grandson and granddaughter-in-law entering his hospital room, hands joined in happiness and sweetness, tears of excitement filled his eyes. The sight of them visiting him, unable to conceal his inner exhilaration, was overwhelming.

”Grandfather, we’ve come to see you. We’re sorry for causing you harm because of our wilfulness. Thank you for always being so good to us and for worrying about us. Don’t worry, from now on I will live with him properly and will not act so rashly anymore. I also know that some of the things I said in the past might have hurt you, but I hope you can understand,” she said.

”As long as you two can continue living together, enduring some hardships is nothing for me. It seems I worried too much. As long as you are doing well, you can have a peaceful life at home. I truly hope you two can lead such a happy life forever. Grandfather doesn’t want to see any discord between you two...”
