My Alleged Husband

Chapter 620: Chapter 599 Fair Treatment_1

”Actually, there’s no need for you to thank me. I suppressed this matter merely for the sake of a century-long reputation. I couldn’t just stand by idly. But you know exactly what you’ve done. I will definitely not easily forgive you. The hurt you’ve brought me is simply too deep, and I am not a fool, nor am I a naive child. I can’t so easily believe every word you say!”

Perhaps you feel that every word I’m saying now is hurting you, making you feel disgraceful, but if you honestly ask yourself, haven’t your actions broken my heart? If you hadn’t truly hurt me, hurt my sincere love for you, how could I possibly treat you the way I am today? Those happy days seem so insignificant to you that you could abandon our once blissful marriage for another man. How selfish and self-serving you are! How could I possibly continue to cherish you like before, embrace you as if nothing happened? I am no saint; I can’t do that. Those actions of those men are but acts of cowardice, while I am an economic emperor, tasked with upholding the world’s economy!

Someday, you may understand that everything I’ve done has indeed made you sad and disappointed, but you’ll also realize that if I hadn’t done so, what kind of ending would we have faced?”

Ran Zhihan knew exactly what kind of ending she would have faced if she hadn’t made her choices, but her heart was clear – she couldn’t choose to voice these things.

Everyone has their dignity, and everyone has their bottom line. There’s a limit to tolerance. My husband has already been so accommodating toward me; what more could I ask for? All this is just the result of my own mistakes. What can I do? Surely I can’t shamelessly plead with my husband not to say these troubling words to me. What right do I have?

”I know I have no right to speak to you like this now, but please believe me sincerely, I am not that kind of person. What I really want is just to live a happy and peaceful life. The way things have developed to this point was completely unforeseen by me. I didn’t want such a life. Maybe you won’t choose to believe me, but I really hope you can trust me a bit more. Since we are husband and wife, shouldn’t there be more trust between us? Why do you have to suspect me like this? Doesn’t doubting me like this cause you the slightest bit of heartache?”

Even if I’ve made a grave mistake, I am still your wife in the eyes of the law. You should treat me with kindness. How can you say such cruel and heartless words to me? Are the many years of our marriage really so worthless in your eyes, not worth your mercy? You humiliate me time and again; how far do you intend to push me until you think it’s time to put an end to this?”

”An end? Are you joking with me? Do you think there’s any way this issue can be completely resolved as if it had never happened? You have no understanding of my feelings; you have no idea how much pain I am in.

I really don’t know how to communicate with you anymore. I’ve said everything I had to and even what I shouldn’t have, but when have you ever opened up to me? Is what I want from you really that hard to give? Although you’ve stayed by my side all these years, who knows which man you have in your heart? I don’t want to to speak harshly, nor do I want to turn things so bitter, for we have spent many years together. You have indeed suffered for this family without any credit, and although I have been the one managing everything regarding our clothing, food, housing, and transportation, you’ve also contributed much to this family. I am grateful for everything you’ve done for this home, but that doesn’t mean you can act recklessly and hurt me. In your heart, am I a man that can be hurt so casually?”

”You clearly know that’s not what I meant. All I wanted was fair treatment. Ask yourself, have you treated me fairly over the years? You used to consult with me on everything before making decisions. Now, do you still do that? No, you don’t because your heart is already tired of me. You feel being with me is only to provide a safe home for our son, to have dependable parents. You just don’t want our son to lose either of us!

To be honest, and I’m not afraid of you misunderstanding, if you really don’t want to continue this life with me, you could have told me clearly, without hurling indirect insults. I could take our son and leave, not sticking around. I can live without relying on you; I can support myself and my son with my own efforts. In the end, you just can’t bear to be without your son, unsure how to resolve this between us. That’s why you say such hurtful things. You’re doing this just to keep my son by your side, to never let him leave this home, aren’t you?

Zhang Yichen, don’t underestimate me. Do you really think that everyone in the world is so contemptible? I will strive for what I want diligently. I don’t rely on shortcuts. I want to achieve all that I desire step by step, solidly. I’ve had enough of the mockery you’ve directed at me over the years. Although I come from an ordinary family, and I can’t compare with the children of wealthy families, everything I have done has been conscionable.

I just want fair treatment, but you never gave me that these years. Perhaps in your heart there is no such thing as fair treatment for me. However, everything I have achieved has been through my own effort. I haven’t depended on anyone, and everything I have is the reward I’ve earned through my own hard work!”
