My Alleged Husband

Chapter 649: Chapter 628 Waiting for You to Come Home_1

Zhang Yichen knew in his heart that no matter how grave the error he had committed, his grandfather would never blame him; on the contrary, his grandfather would always regard him as his greatest pride. But should he really take such an attitude for granted? Should he really keep hurting his grandfather over and over again? Nobody could fathom the hardships involved, and nobody could understand how difficult it had been for his grandfather to raise him. What right did he have to repeatedly cause his grandfather pain just because his grandfather loved him, cherished him as a treasure, and doted on him? Did he truly have to do so many terrible things to her?

When he saw his grandfather happily handling the discharge procedures from the hospital, Yichen was overjoyed. He knew how much his grandfather suffered being in the hospital, yet he always disregarded his grandfather’s feelings, insisting on keeping him there to get a thorough treatment.

In truth, she was more aware than anyone about how painful and harrowing it was to lose a loved one. She knew that the despair of such agony was irrevocable; the moment she lost a loved one, it meant that her world would change, she would have one fewer person to care for her, one fewer person who loved her the most to stay by her side. Nobody would want such things to happen to them. People are selfish; they all want to find their most beloved and have them stay by their side for a lifetime, never to change, but does heaven really grant you such an opportunity? It never does.

Old Master Zhang saw his grandson with a worried frown, and as a grandfather, his heart couldn’t bear it. But the truth was always in front of him, no matter what outcomes he faced, he could never let his loved ones be harmed by his affairs, not even the smallest bit, his heart wouldn’t allow it.

He was well aware of how much effort his grandson had made over the years. Yet when he saw his grandson forcing a smile, he knew that his grandson had ultimately chosen a different path from others. No one is born to walk such a path; sometimes the choice of path is out of necessity due to life’s pressures, and in the end, there might be no retreat available.

”Child, I am truly proud of your achievements today,” Elder Zhang said. ”I never imagined that the child I raised with my own hands could accomplish so much, or that you would surpass your father by far. Your father never changed anything for me, but you are different. You are willing to give up things you don’t want to lose, just to make me happy. You know that you do it to see me smile. That alone is comforting, and I shouldn’t selfishly ask you to let go of things you don’t want to. Some things really can’t be let go that easily.”

”Now I have realized that as long as you can live happily, what does it matter if you live alone? Not everyone will always have someone by their side. What we have is just a life different from others. Everyone’s life is built step by step by themselves. I believe one day our lives will be different from others’ lives, and those lives will be the ones we create, not given as charity by others!”

”Grandfather, I have to admit that having you in my life has made me truly happy,” Yichen continued. ”You gave me a life unlike any other; you gave me the power to choose, you allowed me to achieve what I have today. Everything I’ve worked hard for has been for you, and I have no regrets. No matter how much sweat I’ve shed for these hardships, I will smile happily at your smile—it’s not a forced smile, but one from the bottom of my heart, because with you, I feel entirely safe.”

”It’s no secret that I’ve always been a child without a sense of security because my parents left me, and I’ve always felt unbalanced inside. That’s why I had to grow up faster than other kids. I know that if I don’t reach the pinnacle of life through my own effort, I will be trampled on and taught by others. I can’t allow my dignity to be trampled on at will, nor can I let the reputation of the Zhang Family be destroyed overnight.”

”Every decision I make is based on the interests of the family, for the reputation of the family. I believe this is the life that’s extraordinary. Maybe I’ve given up many of my personal convictions for the sake of the family, but I believe this isn’t the initial decision. One day I will make the family prosper because of me; I will enhance the family’s century-old reputation. I will make everyone know I have a good grandfather, and that my entire life, including the achievements I have today, has been made possible by him taking me to the pinnacle.”

Old Master Zhang smiled. Indeed, he hadn’t been wrong in this life; having such a grandson by his side was his greatest comfort. Regardless of what his son had done to him, the child he had raised still stood by his side, forever making every effort for him. Perhaps that was what a family should have, nothing that could disturb the happiness and well-being of his family. To him, that was the greatest happiness, the greatest comfort.

”Grandfather, let’s not say anything else and just head home,” Zhang Yichen said. ”My wife and my son are waiting there for us; let’s hurry back. I didn’t have them come to pick you up today because they prepared a lot of delicious food for you at home. I know you’re not accustomed to staying in the hospital, and today you can finally return home. Our whole family warmly welcomes you back. Your return home is our greatest happiness!”

Old Master Zhang smiled. Whether the words were true or not, they were the happiest to the ears of the listener.
