[Wait, what? ”It’ll be fine after a few more times”? Mo-bao… you’re not thinking of snapping the other tusk too, are you?]

[Hold on, I don’t think that’s what he meant.]

[This reminds me—when we were kids, we all went through losing baby teeth. Is Mo-bao saying Axew regrow their teeth like humans do?]

[But Axew’s tooth got broken, not naturally replaced. That’s different, right?]

[Well, they’re Pokémon—strange things happening isn’t that surprising.]

Glancing at the comments, Chen Mo smiled.

”It’s good that you connected Axew’s broken tusk with how humans lose teeth growing up, but the two are actually quite different.”

”Axew are a species that constantly regenerate their tusks as part of their growth. That’s right—their teeth can regrow multiple times.”

”Usually, newborn Axew have relatively fragile tusks. But each time a tusk breaks and regrows, the new one becomes stronger and sharper than before.”

”So in a sense, a broken tusk is seen by Axew as proof of growth. Every time it happens, it means that Axew is becoming stronger and getting closer to evolving into Fraxure.”

”For an Axew that wants to grow stronger, losing a tusk is actually something to be happy about. They rarely mind the pain that comes with it.”

”As for the Axew just now—it was probably its first time losing a tusk, so it wasn’t quite used to it yet.”

”And the Haxorus chasing it earlier—most likely its father.”

At this point, Chen Mo’s smile widened.

”Another thing worth noting is that once Axew evolves into Fraxure, their tusks lose the ability to regenerate. That makes the juvenile stage especially important.”

”Axew will often play with one another by clashing tusks to accelerate this process of breaking and regrowth.”

At this point, the chat fully understood.

[So a broken tusk is basically a badge of growth? That’s kinda cool.]

[Seeing Mo-bao smiling while explaining this… I’m laughing too lol]

[Haxorus: Look at other kids—happy when they lose a tooth. And you? Crying? Embarrassing! If guests weren’t here, I’d smack you!]

[Axew: I get it, but it HURTS okay?? I’m allowed to cry!]

[Haxorus: Stop running, you little brat!]

[This Axew tribe is actually so interesting (≧▽≦)]

While Chen Mo was explaining, Mo Yu had already picked up the little Axew with the broken tusk.

The Haxorus that had been chasing it earlier glared at it fiercely.

Though the Axew had stopped crying, its face still looked pitiful. Startled by the glare, it quickly buried its head into Mo Yu’s arms.

Haxorus: ”...”

Chen Mo watched the scene with interest.

At that moment—

the Haxorus that had been facing away suddenly turned around.

It looked at Chen Mo with a mix of confusion and uncertainty.

Chen Mo: ”?”

”Nuoda!”

The Haxorus called out, then walked forward a few steps, turned back, and gestured with its arm.

”…You want me to follow you?” Chen Mo asked.

”Nuoda!”

The Haxorus nodded—and even gestured toward Ah Hui, Mo Yu, and the others.

The sudden development left everyone exchanging confused glances.

They all looked toward Chen Mo.

”…Let’s follow it and see.”

Chen Mo said slowly.

The Haxorus’s favorability hadn’t dropped—meaning it had no intention of harming them.

And judging from its behavior—

following it might reveal why this Axew tribe was so friendly toward humans.

Passing the giant tree, the group followed the Haxorus.

Before long, they arrived at a large cave.

”Nuoda.”

The Haxorus glanced back, then entered first.

As Chen Mo walked, he noticed many stones scattered around the cave entrance.

They varied in size—but all bore clear signs of friction.

Taking the opportunity, Chen Mo glanced at the Haxorus ahead and began explaining softly:

”As I mentioned earlier, once Axew evolve into Fraxure, their tusks stop regenerating.”

”So at that stage, Fraxure and Haxorus start paying close attention to maintaining their tusks.”

”For example, after intense battles, they’ll find suitable rocks to grind their tusks against. They’ll also lick soil to replenish minerals needed to maintain their strength.”

The Haxorus ahead glanced back at him again.

But Chen Mo didn’t notice—he was deep in thought.

This cave…

was clearly a frequently used location for the tribe.

Possibly even their primary resting place.

So why bring humans here?

”Mo-ge, look ahead.”

Ah Hui’s quiet voice interrupted his thoughts.

Chen Mo looked up—

and stopped.

Directly ahead—

another Haxorus appeared.

But this one—

was enormous.

Far larger than the one guiding them.

It lay beside the cave wall like a small mountain.

[(#`O′) This Haxorus is HUGE! Totally overpowered!]

[This reminds me of Mo-bao’s Pidgeotto—probably a leader-type Pokémon]

[I get that, but why is it so big??]

[More importantly—why bring them here?]

[Wait… doesn’t something feel off?]

[Yeah… its skin looks duller than the other one’s]

[You guys notice way too much… I see nothing]

While the group stood frozen—

the guiding Haxorus continued forward.

”Nuoda!”

No response.

”Nuoda!” (louder)

Still nothing.

”NUODA!!!”

Finally—

the massive Haxorus moved.

Its curled body slowly stretched.

Then—

it lifted its head.

The chat exploded.

[WHAT THE—WHERE ARE ITS TUSKS?!]

[A Haxorus without tusks… is that even a Haxorus anymore?]

[Something’s really off… look at its eyes—it feels like an old person]

[Yeah… I see it too…]

[Mo-bao, we need explanation NOW]

Chen Mo stared silently for a moment.

Then sighed softly.

”…Just like you all suspect.”

”This Haxorus… is nearing the end of its life.”

Everyone froze.

In Mo Yu’s arms, the little Axew didn’t understand.

Seeing the old Haxorus wake up—

it happily jumped down.

”Axew!”

It ran forward on its short legs, waving its tiny arms.

”Nuoda…”

The two faced each other.

One old.

One young.

”Axew! Axew axew!”

The little Axew pointed at its broken tusk—

seemingly delighted that it now resembled the old Haxorus.

Excited—

it climbed onto the old Haxorus’s tail,

then up its back,

until it reached its head—

grinning widely with its broken tooth.

”Nuoda…”

The old, toothless Haxorus let out a hoarse, low sound.

It had tried to stand—

but instead lay back down,

letting the Axew play freely on its body.

[I… don’t even know what to say]

[Mo-bao rarely talks about Pokémon lifespans… I almost thought they were immortal]

[This is hitting hard…]

[The Axew doesn’t realize… its broken tooth means growth, but for Haxorus it means the end…]

[One is the beginning. The other… is the end.]

Chen Mo looked at the chat and shook his head slightly.

”It’s not that I don’t want to talk about lifespan—it’s that I don’t fully know.”

”But species differences and individual strength both greatly affect a Pokémon’s lifespan.”

This was the truth.

Even Detecting Eye rarely provided detailed lifespan data.

Still—

based on his past knowledge:

Legendary Pokémon could live for centuries or millennia.Ghost-types had extremely long lifespans.Bug-types tended to have much shorter lives.

”As for Haxorus…”

”As a Dragon-type, their lifespan is quite long—hundreds, even thousands of years.”

”How much time this one has left—I can’t say. But likely longer than you’d expect.”

The mood in the stream eased slightly.

”…Bug-types have the shortest lifespan…”

Ah Hui murmured.

His Caterpie…

was a Bug-type.

And one with congenital defects.

Its lifespan would likely be even shorter.

To extend it—

either evolve quickly…

or fix its innate flaws.

But both options…

were extremely difficult.

”…Entei…”

Ah Hui clenched his fists.

Back in the cave—

the younger Haxorus continued calling out.

Gradually, the old Haxorus’s cloudy eyes became clearer.

”Nuoda…”

”NUODA!”

After a final exchange—

the younger Haxorus nodded.

Then—

it picked up the Axew—

and walked toward Chen Mo’s group.

It pointed at:

Ah Huithe flat-headed youthand Mo Yu

gesturing for them to follow.

The three were completely confused.

”…Why are we leaving already?”

But they didn’t dare argue.

At Chen Mo’s signal—

they followed.

Chen Mo watched them leave, deep in thought.

Then—

suddenly—

a voice echoed in his mind.

”…It has been a long time since I spoke to a human in this way…”

”…A human blessed by Lord Suicune…”

”…the one who walks the path of ideals…”

”…welcome.”

The voice—

was old.

Ancient.

And it came from—

the dying Haxorus.
