Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

BONUS

About seven hundred years ago in the original Pokémon timeline, the people of Ecruteak City built two nine-story towers on the eastern and western sides of the town to celebrate the hard-earned friendship between humans and Pokémon.

To the east stood the Bell Tower.

To the west stood the Brass Tower.

The two towers echoed each other from opposite sides of the city, overlooking the entirety of Ecruteak. The view from their tops was magnificent and considered unparalleled at the time.

Perhaps it was because the people of Ecruteak’s heartfelt feelings were sensed by higher beings.

One day, two Legendary Pokémon descended upon the city.

The Rainbow God — Ho-Oh.

The Sea God — Lugia.

Ho-Oh settled in the Bell Tower to the east, while Lugia resided in the Brass Tower to the west.

They formed a deep friendship with the humans of Ecruteak.

Two Legendary Pokémon living in the same city—such a phenomenon was likely unique in the entire Pokémon world.

For the next several hundred years, humans and these two legendary beings lived peacefully together.

People of that era likely believed that this friendship would pass on to their children, then to their descendants, continuing generation after generation… forever.

But no one expected that one night, one hundred and fifty years ago, this bond that had lasted centuries would abruptly end.

A massive bolt of lightning fell from the sky and struck the Brass Tower, Lugia’s residence.

Flames erupted instantly, engulfing the entire tower.

The fire burned for three days and three nights.

In the end, it was Lugia who summoned a great rainstorm to extinguish the blaze.

”…However, it was also because of this fire that Lugia’s peaceful life came to an end.”

”It quietly left Ecruteak City and disappeared from the sight of the world.”

Chen Mo paused slightly here.

When he glanced at the chat, the reaction was—as expected—extremely intense.

[Wait, Mo-bao! Weren’t you supposed to talk about Suicune and Entei? Why are you talking about Lugia and Ho-Oh? Stay on topic!]

[Eh, whatever. The story’s pretty interesting.]

[Another story from the Pokémon world… I really want to know how the authorities know all this. Did they discover ancient Pokémon ruins like last time?]

[I’m curious—what kind of fire burns that fiercely? And why did the tower get struck by lightning? Also why did Lugia leave Ecruteak? It’s not like the humans started the fire. Just rebuild the tower.]

[Maybe the heavens saw Lugia slacking off in Ecruteak all day and finally smote its house with lightning.]

[”Rainbow God” and ”Sea God”… actual god titles? Now I’m curious about Lugia and Ho-Oh too. Mo-bao, tell us more!]

[I don’t care about Lugia or Ho-Oh—I want Suicune and Entei! Get back on topic!]

[What if—just what if—these two have something to do with Suicune and Entei?]

The chat was chaotic.

Meanwhile, far away in Anping City, Professor Zhou and the others were equally unsettled.

”Two more Legendary Pokémon we’ve never heard of…”

Officer Wang murmured.

Professor Zhou, appearing on the video call in pajamas, smiled calmly.

”Xiao Wang, don’t always be so worried.”

”Compared to some of the Legendary Pokémon Xiao Mo described before, these two already sound much friendlier.”

”If we ever encounter Lugia or Ho-Oh, perhaps we could learn from the people of Ecruteak and try to build a relationship with them.”

”Hmm… that might actually be a good direction. We should discuss it in more detail later.”

”...”

Back in Evergreen Forest.

Chen Mo looked at the screen full of strange questions and sighed helplessly.

Where did the people of Ecruteak go?

Why couldn’t they put out the fire after three whole days?

Was Lugia even in the tower? If it was, why didn’t it extinguish the fire sooner? If it wasn’t, where had it gone visiting?

And someone even asked whether Ho-Oh just stood there watching.

He could only say one thing—

Truly worthy of being my viewers.

Chen Mo sighed again.

”I said it’s a legendary story—a story with legendary elements.”

”If you keep interrupting like this, do you still want me to continue?”

The moment those words came out, the tone of the chat changed instantly.

[Tea for Mo-bao!]

[Mo-bao, you must be thirsty after talking so long—have a berry.]

[Too bad Hui-ge isn’t here to massage your shoulders.]

[Mo-bao works so hard!]

Ignoring the suddenly obedient chat, Chen Mo continued.

”Although the great fire was extinguished by rain, the Brass Tower was completely destroyed.”

”And during the disaster, three unidentified Pokémon perished inside the tower.”

”The people of Ecruteak were deeply saddened by this sudden tragedy.”

”But at that moment…”

”A beam of rainbow light pierced through the clouds and descended upon the charred ruins of the tower.”

”Ho-Oh appeared.”

”And with it… came a miracle.”

”Under Ho-Oh’s rainbow radiance, the three Pokémon that had died were revived, and they gained extraordinary abilities.”

”In later generations, the people of the Pokémon world called them…”

”Suicune, Entei, and Raikou.”

The moment those words fell—

Professor Zhou and the others watching the broadcast widened their eyes.

The livestream chat exploded with question marks.

[HOLY—]

[??? Did I hear that right!? Suicune, Entei, and that Raikou were revived by Ho-Oh!?]

[Wait… are you saying they only became Legendary Pokémon because of Ho-Oh’s power!?]

[That can’t be right. Suicune already looked insanely strong. If Ho-Oh revived them, how terrifying must Ho-Oh be!?]

[Don’t forget Lugia—the ”Sea God.”]

[I thought Suicune was already invincible! Even if Ho-Oh and Lugia were stronger, it shouldn’t be by much! But now you’re telling me Suicune only became legendary after Ho-Oh revived it? That’s insane!]

A single revelation caused a massive shock in the livestream.

And it wasn’t because the viewers were overly dramatic.

Suicune’s overwhelming power was still fresh in everyone’s memory.

Many had already thought Suicune was a being that shattered their understanding of Pokémon.

But now—

They were suddenly told:

Suicune and Entei weren’t even the top tier.

Their power largely came from an even more powerful being who revived them and granted them extraordinary strength.

Anyone would be stunned by that.

At that moment, a comment appeared in the chat that voiced what everyone was thinking.

[Mo-bao… among Legendary Pokémon, what tier does Suicune belong to?]

[And how many Legendary Pokémon are stronger than Suicune?] 🌌
