The trial run of Pidgey Express was a great success.

That very day, Chen Mo saw many discussions about it in his fan group. Quite a few fans living in Anping City even posted photos of themselves posing with Pidgey.

For a time, the sight of Pidgey flying busily across the city sky became a unique landscape of Anping.

Of course—

Where there was satisfaction, there was also doubt.

Within Anping City, as a pilot zone, things were relatively positive. But online, criticism was rampant.

Many questioned whether Pidgey might suddenly go berserk and attack humans, causing accidents.

Some more extreme voices even flooded forums with outright insults, hurling abuse nonstop.

Chen Mo frowned as he read through them.

After a long while, he sighed deeply.

These voices might be loud now, but as time passed—

A week, a month, a year, or longer—

Eventually, time itself would provide the answer.

Until then, what was needed was patience.

”You said… you want to understand what Pokémon are?”

Ah Hui looked at the flat-haired young man in front of him and took a deep breath.

Yesterday, when Feng Lan showed him that package address, Ah Hui had been stunned.

At first, he assumed the package belonged to Xiaocai.

But—

Although he didn’t know what was inside the package, the phone number on the delivery slip was one he knew by heart.

It belonged to Haoran.

After returning from Evergreen Forest, Ah Hui had already let go of most of his resentment regarding the Butterfree and Caterpie incident.

After thinking for a bit, he wrote a letter and asked the delivering Pidgey to pass it along.

However—

What he didn’t expect was that when they finally met again, Haoran would say something like this.

After holding it in for a while, Ah Hui said:

”Haoran… you don’t have to force yourself. I’m really not angry anymore.”

”...”

Haoran’s eyebrow twitched.

Soon, after explaining himself, Ah Hui finally understood.

”I see… so your change came from watching Brother Mo’s streams.”

Ah Hui immediately got it.

After all, he himself had gradually changed his views in the same way—and eventually fell in love with Pokémon.

”Wuwa…”

On the other side of the sofa, Caterpie let out a satisfied sound after finishing the last leaf Ah Hui had prepared.

Then it lay down flat.

Seeing this, Ah Hui’s eyes lit up.

He picked up Caterpie.

”Since you said you want to understand Pokémon, let’s start with mine.”

”Here.”

He handed Caterpie over.

Sensing movement, Caterpie lifted its head slightly, its round black eyes looking curiously at Haoran.

It didn’t remember him.

But because of Ah Hui, it still let out a friendly little cry.

”...”

After a long hesitation—

Haoran shook his head decisively.

”Nope. I can’t do it.”

”?”

Ah Hui stared at him like, Are you messing with me?

Haoran gave a helpless explanation.

Because of what happened with the Pokémon egg before—and the psychological shadow left by Butterfree—

He had extremely complicated feelings toward Caterpie.

And besides—

It was still a thick worm the size of an arm.

As someone who never liked insects, just looking at Caterpie already made him uncomfortable.

Touching it?

That was basically impossible.

Ah Hui immediately felt annoyed.

”I didn’t like bugs before either!”

”But Caterpie is different—it’s obviously cute!”

Actually, Haoran wasn’t the only one.

Even Feng Lan had explicitly said she couldn’t appreciate Caterpie’s cuteness.

Ah Hui looked at Caterpie slowly crawling back onto his shoulder—the familiar resting spot.

A sense of loneliness suddenly rose in his heart.

Is there really no one else in this world who likes Caterpie like I do?

Still—

Everyone had different preferences.

Ah Hui understood that if Haoran truly resisted Caterpie, he couldn’t force him.

”Then… is there any Pokémon you particularly like?”

Ah Hui asked curiously.

Haoran thought for a moment and answered seriously:

”Suicune.”

Ah Hui sighed silently.

Of course…

After the Evergreen Forest stream, Chen Mo’s fan group had held a poll asking everyone’s favorite Pokémon.

Suicune, as a legendary Pokémon, had overwhelmingly taken first place.

Later, people realized it was too overpowered for comparison, so they held another poll excluding it.

Only then did the results become somewhat balanced.

After all—

A Pokémon that’s strong, elegant, and incredibly cool—

Who wouldn’t like that?

”Suicune doesn’t count. Pick another.”

”Then…”

Haoran thought again.

”Absol.”

As the Pokémon that first changed his perception, Absol had left a deep impression.

”So after excluding Suicune, Absol.”

”And?”

”Uh… Pidgeotto?”

As someone who cared deeply about appearance—even losing his hair would upset him—

Haoran was definitely a looks-first type.

Strength didn’t matter.

But appearance absolutely did.

So every Pokémon he named afterward—

were all among the more visually appealing ones.

”As expected.”

Ah Hui smiled.

Not surprised at all.

At that moment—

Caterpie, resting on his shoulder, shifted slightly.

Thinking it had woken up, Ah Hui turned his head.

But seeing it still asleep, he smiled gently and lightly stroked its back.

Haoran, who had been watching the whole time, fell into a daze.

Ah Hui noticed his expression and said softly:

”After traveling with Brother Mo, I realized something.”

”If you really want to understand Pokémon, just watching streams isn’t enough.”

”Brother Mo’s explanations are about species as a whole.”

”But a species doesn’t represent individuals.”

”Every Pokémon has its own personality.”

”If you don’t interact with them yourself, you’ll never truly understand that.”

Ah Hui paused, then continued:

”Haoran, if you don’t mind…”

”I’ve got a small gathering coming up.”

”A bunch of people who’ve been itching to go out are planning to head outside the city.”

”They want to see if they can find their first Pokémon.”

”If you’re interested…”

”Do you want to come with us?”
