Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

Bonus

Morning.

When Pichu woke from its sleep and learned from Chen Mo that the reason it had been able to keep dreaming about Electabuzz—and secretly learn Thunder Punch from it—was all thanks to Haunter—

Pichu stared blankly at the purple-black figure floating beside Chen Mo. Then its eyes burst with dazzling light.

It rushed straight toward Haunter.

”Pichu!?”

”Ko-jie…”

”Pichu! Pichu-pichu~”

As Pichu showered it with endless thanks, the ”old father” Haunter looked a little shy.

It tried to put on a mature front, but under Pichu’s enthusiastic cries, the smile tugging at the corner of its mouth could no longer be suppressed, completely exposing the joy deep in its heart.

Just then—

Chen Mo’s phone vibrated in his pocket.

Taking it out, he saw a private message from Qiao Cheng.

[Brother Mo, there haven’t been any more ”hauntings” in town lately. I went back to Lavender Elementary School too, but I still couldn’t find Haunter. No idea where it went. If I hear anything, I’ll let you know right away.

Oh, right, one more thing.

Xiao You and the boss left yesterday. Judging by the time, they should have arrived in Anping City by now.]

So it really was Anping City…

Chen Mo nodded to himself, thinking that was probably for the best. He then snapped a photo of Haunter and Pichu together and sent it back to Qiao Cheng.

Soon enough, another message came.

[So that guy ran off to your place, huh? Brother Mo, looks like you’ve captured Haunter? Well, that’s good too. Haunter’s not bad—it just loves pulling pranks. If someone gentle like you is by its side to guide it, I’ll feel much more at ease.]

Chen Mo smiled at the message and didn’t reply further.

Qiao Cheng clearly hadn’t seen the early-morning livestream. Chen Mo’s new ”method” of capturing Haunter had truly given the audience quite a lesson.

Especially to someone else at the campsite—

Ah Hui.

Lately, Ah Hui had been hesitating. Avoiding.

Reason told him he should take Caterpie back to that flower field and find its parents.

But deep down, another voice was stopping him—stopping him from going back.

Without realizing it, he had grown used to living with Caterpie. Used to taking care of this gluttonous little Pokémon.

”Brother Mo, can I ask you something?”

”Mm. I’m listening. Just ask.”

”If… after we meet the Butterfree… I ask them to let Caterpie stay with me… do you think that’s possible?”

Ah Hui’s words made Chen Mo pause as he watched Pichu and Haunter playing.

He turned his head and looked at the young man holding Caterpie in his arms, his face full of anxiety. A faint smile slowly appeared on Chen Mo’s face.

”I don’t know either. But if you want to try, I’ll be there with you.”

After witnessing that special ”capture” this morning and finally understanding his own heart, Ah Hui looked down at Caterpie in his arms and nodded firmly at Chen Mo.

He didn’t want to give up on Caterpie just like this.

Then it was time to stand up decisively—like a man.

...

”Pichu, we’re setting off.”

Chen Mo called out toward the riverbank.

Evergreen Forest was vast.

The flower field where Ah Hui had previously encountered the Butterfree was quite a distance from their current campsite. If they walked there, it would be difficult to return within a single day.

Although they were already prepared to spend the night there, setting out earlier meant more time to prepare.

”Pichu~”

Using its newly mastered High-Speed Movement, Pichu quickly appeared in front of Chen Mo.

Seeing the faint disappointment on Pichu’s face, Chen Mo understood—it still hadn’t gotten to see that Electabuzz again.

Strangely enough, Chen Mo had originally assumed that, given Electabuzz’s intense hostility toward humans, it would definitely reappear once it recovered from its injuries.

But nearly a week had passed at the campsite, and there was still no sign of it.

”Could it be… the injuries Pichu inflicted still haven’t fully healed…”

Chen Mo muttered to himself.

Still, it didn’t matter too much. Once Ah Hui’s matter was resolved, they would need to consider leaving Evergreen Forest.

Although that would surely leave Pichu feeling somewhat regretful about not getting its revenge, it couldn’t be helped.

...

On the eastern side of Evergreen Forest.

Inside a cave roughly twenty to thirty kilometers away from Chen Mo and the others.

”Boss. Xiao Wu is dead.”

A hoarse voice echoed through the cave.

Under the flickering torchlight, the poachers holding hunting rifles stared at the companion lying on the ground—his body wrapped in bandages, but clearly devoid of life. None of their expressions looked good.

This trip to capture magical beasts had gone terribly wrong.

For some cursed reason, they had run into a lightning-wielding beast. Not only had it repeatedly sabotaged their capture attempts, it had also ambushed them from behind, injuring their men again and again.

Including the one before them, this was already the fourth poacher to die from severe injuries.

”We’ve already moved far away from that area. Why is that beast still chasing us relentlessly? Even Xiao Wu…”

The mood in the group was growing darker. Fear flickered across many faces.

That beast—appearing unpredictably, disrupting their hunts, then vanishing without a trace—

had undoubtedly become a lingering nightmare in their hearts.

After a long silence, someone spoke in a trembling voice.

”Boss… maybe we should just leave. I’ve got a bad feeling about staying in this forest. That thing—”

Before he could finish, a cold voice cut him off.

”Leave!? Do you think we can even get away? That beast might be crouching in some bush outside right now, waiting for us.”

”But—”

”There’s no ’but’!”

The middle-aged man wearing a black headscarf stood up, his fierce gaze sweeping over his subordinates one by one.

”You’ve followed me for so long, and this is all it takes to scare you!? How many times have I told you—we are poachers. We are the hunters. They are the prey! If that beast wants our lives, then let’s see who’s tougher!”

Hearing the man’s words, someone in the group gritted his teeth, his eyes turning vicious.

”Boss, I’m with you! Our bullets hit that beast last time. And with Xiao Wu’s shot yesterday, it must be badly injured. If it’s afraid of bullets, then there’s nothing to be scared of. Let’s fucking kill it!”
