Hearing Caterpie’s strange cry from afar, Pidgeotto opened its eyes.

At a glance, it spotted the two butterfly-like Pokémon busy in the flower field.

Although one of them had an unusual color, with Pidgeotto’s rich experience surviving in the wild, there was no way it wouldn’t recognize them.

Butterfree.

The final evolved form of Caterpie.

Immediately afterward, Pidgeotto remembered Caterpie’s background.

When Caterpie had been rushed to Chen Mo’s house for emergency treatment, Pidgeotto had been present. Naturally, it knew Caterpie’s situation well.

Just as Pidgeotto was about to wake Chen Mo to deal with the situation—

Thump!

The sound of something heavy hitting the ground rang out.

Caterpie had fallen from the tree.

The tree was over ten meters tall. Even though it had fallen from a side branch, that height was still too much for Caterpie.

Stars immediately spun in its vision from the pain.

Pidgeotto felt helpless.

With a light leap, it glided down with its wings and landed beside Caterpie.

”Pidge!”

”Waa…”

The moment Caterpie regained consciousness, it saw a huge bird head staring coldly at it.

It nearly curled into a ball in fear.

But when it realized it was the same Pidgeotto that had saved it earlier, Caterpie finally calmed down.

”Pidge!”

Pidgeotto didn’t waste time chatting. With a serious expression, it told Caterpie to stay where it was and not run around.

It would go wake Chen Mo.

After giving the instructions, Pidgeotto flapped its wings and flew straight to Chen Mo’s tent.

It didn’t dare wake the campers with its loud cry.

If it accidentally attracted the attention of the two Butterfree and they discovered Caterpie, things could get complicated.

So Pidgeotto simply stuck its head into Chen Mo’s tent and gently nudged the sleeping bag with its beak.

”Keh?”

Before Chen Mo woke up, Pidgeotto saw Haunter appear from the shadows, looking rather exhausted.

”Pidge?”

Pidgeotto looked confused.

It hadn’t even been that long—how had Haunter ended up looking like this already?

”Keh…”

Ignoring the question, Haunter listened to Pidgeotto explain the situation.

The moment it understood, Haunter’s dull eyes suddenly lit up.

It made an OK gesture with its purple claw and turned toward the sleeping Chen Mo with a mischievous grin.

”Keh!”

You want him woken up? Leave it to me!

Moments later…

Chen Mo sat there with lingering fear on his face, staring at the three Pokémon beside him.

Pikachu looked satisfied but still eager.

Haunter looked completely fulfilled.

Pidgeotto watched them with a thoughtful expression.

Chen Mo felt a headache coming on.

”Haunter, didn’t you promise before that you wouldn’t eat other people’s dreams anymore?”

”Keh!”

Haunter didn’t panic at all.

With a perfectly reasonable tone, it responded.

”…What? You said you promised not to eat other humans’ dreams, but you never said anything about mine?”

Chen Mo fell silent.

After all, it was a Ghost-type Pokémon.

Cunning.

Chen Mo sighed.

Considering Haunter had only done it to help Pikachu train, Chen Mo felt that as the Trainer he should bear part of the responsibility.

So he didn’t intend to scold Haunter too much.

However…

Looking at Pikachu’s excited expression, this kind of training would definitely happen again.

And even if his body were made of iron, it couldn’t handle Haunter eating his dreams every day.

Chen Mo stared at Haunter’s mischievous grin and immediately understood what it was thinking.

”Haunter!”

”Keh?!”

”If something like this happens again, tell me beforehand. I’ll prepare plenty of food for you.”

”I know your body type. Normal Pokémon food should still help you recover, even if the effect isn’t as strong as devouring dreams.”

”And I’ll make special nutritional soup just for you.”

”So stop trying to eat my dreams. Eat normal food like a proper Pokémon.”

”Otherwise I’m going to get angry!”

”Keh…”

Haunter’s ghostly face immediately drooped.

It had been seen through.

Besides restoring its energy, part of the reason it liked eating Chen Mo’s dreams was because it enjoyed watching Chen Mo’s terrified expression when waking from nightmares.

For Haunter, that was another form of prank.

But even hiding behind Pikachu as an excuse hadn’t fooled this human.

Cunning human! 😤

Outside the tent, the glaring sunlight shone on Chen Mo, making him feel dizzy.

”Butterfree…”

The matter Pidgeotto reported was important.

Chen Mo forced himself awake.

While asking Pikachu to wake Ah Hui and Brother Yi in the neighboring tent, he questioned Pidgeotto.

”Where’s Caterpie?”

”Pidge.”

Pidgeotto flapped its wings, ready to lead the way.

However—

After flying into the air, Pidgeotto discovered something strange.

Under the shady tree where Caterpie had been earlier—

There was no Caterpie in sight.

The nearby grass was empty.

Not even a trace of a little worm.

Pidgeotto’s expression changed instantly.

Seeing this, Chen Mo quickly realized something too.

He looked around.

On the canopy outside Brother Yi’s tent, Natu was still standing calmly on the top pole, squinting toward the rising sun.

”Natu, have you seen Caterpie?”

Chen Mo tried asking.

He didn’t expect much of an answer.

After all, Natu was different from the other Pokémon at the camp.

Normally it behaved like a miniature version of Brother Yi—quiet and reserved.

It rarely made sounds and hardly responded to anyone besides Brother Yi.

There was a brief silence.

Just as Chen Mo was about to give up and send Pidgeotto to search the area—

Natu suddenly moved.

It raised one wing and pointed toward a direction.

That direction led straight to the flower field.

”Thank you, Natu.”

Chen Mo waved gratefully.

Then he signaled to Pidgeotto.

Understanding immediately, Pidgeotto flew toward the flower field.

At the same time, Ah Hui and Brother Yi stepped out of their tents.

”Mo-ge, what happened?”

Ah Hui was still sleepy at first.

But after hearing Chen Mo’s explanation, his expression changed dramatically.

He had never expected this moment to arrive so suddenly.

However, after waiting for so long yesterday, Ah Hui had already prepared what he wanted to say.

After the initial shock, he quickly calmed down.

”Mo-ge, let’s go!”

With a determined expression, Ah Hui headed toward the flower field first.

Chen Mo nodded.

But as he walked, he kept thinking about what Pidgeotto had told him earlier.

The Butterfree that flew to the flower field weren’t a whole swarm.

There were only two.

And one of them had a strange coloration.

Based on Chen Mo’s guess, it was likely a shiny Butterfree.

Which raised an important question.

Could it really be such a coincidence?

Were the two Butterfree returning to the flower field actually Caterpie’s parents? 🦋
