Chapter 1150: Chapter 1149: Starlight Burst and Its Improved Form

”So you’re thinking of creating your own distant bombardment magic?”

Although inwardly feeling the inertia of history was terrifying, Fang Zheng still cautiously asked.

”How did you come up with this idea?”

You should know, in the original story, Nanoha created this magic as her trump card because she couldn’t defeat Fate. However, Fate hasn’t even appeared yet... There’s really no need to rush.

”Because I got some inspiration from Sister Little Hei.”

”Inspiration?”

Upon hearing this, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but glance at Little Hei, who giggled and gave him a victory sign – which gave Fang Zheng a very bad premonition.

”Yes.”

Nanoha nodded somewhat dejectedly.

”My reaction speed can’t keep up with Sister Little Hei, and precision shooting with magic power bullets isn’t my forte...”

This time, Fang Zheng didn’t argue; in fact, Nanoha’s performance in this aspect was indeed quite average. Of course – this is in comparison to Little Hei, who is an ”ARCHER.”

”Then when I consulted Sister Little Hei, she told me, ’What does it matter if you can’t aim well, as long as you can ensure one shot that the opponent absolutely can’t escape from’...”

”So you’re planning to use a large-scale AOE?”

Upon hearing this, Fang Zheng was speechless. He silently glanced at Little Hei again, but Little Hei just giggled and ran off to tease Illya.

Speaking of which, Little Hei does seem to enjoy playing around with a False Spiral Sword, blowing things up all the time...

”But you should know that your magic power is insufficient to perform such a wide-ranging AOE bombardment.”

Fang Zheng still wanted to try to twist the world’s corrective power.

”Hmm, but I thought of a good method.”

Saying this, Nanoha excitedly described it to Fang Zheng.

”I noticed that after every battle, there’s a lot of scattered magic power around. If I can somehow harness this stray magic power, then I can launch a sufficiently powerful ranged bombardment in one go!”

”.........”

Looking at Nanoha’s excited little face before him, Fang Zheng was speechless. He was sure that Nanoha was currently in a ”This problem is very difficult, but I’ve finally thought of a way to solve it” kind of excitement. When she proposed this idea, she might not have even considered what this magic actually meant or how terrifying it could be... She simply thought it should be done naturally...

Does that mean that pink on the inside is all black?

Or is it natural black?

But fortunately, at least another cute girl is white both inside and out.

Glancing at Little Sakura not far away, posing under Shisei’s guidance, Fang Zheng finally breathed a sigh of relief.

”Hmm, let me think about it...”

Fang Zheng certainly couldn’t wholly copy the original Starlight Burst, as in the original story, this move caused Nanoha’s body significant damage, leading to her hidden illness. However, Fang Zheng also had to admit that Starlight Burst was indeed a signature move of Nanoha. Mentioning Nanoha meant Starlight Burst, and vice versa...

Utilizing stray magic is a good idea, but the original Starlight Burst had a significant weakness of taking too much time to charge, forcing Nanoha to find a way to restrain the opponent beforehand.

Of course, from another perspective, making the opponent watch powerlessly in despair is already quite terrifying in itself.

But strictly speaking, Nanoha didn’t come up with this move herself in the original work; Fate blacked her once with this move first, then Nanoha learned it by heart and applied it...

How to put it... This counts as reaping what one sows.

”Give me the Heart of the Rising Sun and let me have a look.”

Fang Zheng couldn’t deny that ”making Starlight Burst more powerful” was indeed a fascinating topic, and he couldn’t help but feel like trying it.

”Alright, teacher.”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s words, Nanoha nodded, then obediently dispelled her transformation, handing over the Heart of the Rising Sun. After taking it, Fang Zheng swiftly opened his personal terminal and connected to the Heart of the Rising Sun, beginning to search through its data.

Compared to Little Sakura’s ”Key of Seals,” Nanoha’s ”Heart of the Rising Sun” was more akin to an intelligent magical artifact, so Fang Zheng could easily enter its core for modifications and viewing.

”Let me see, hmm... This is somewhat interesting... Maybe I can do this...”

Saying this, Fang Zheng started rapidly typing on the keyboard.

”What do you think of this?”

”Eh?”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, Nanoha was momentarily stunned.

”What?”

”I added a module to the Heart of the Rising Sun.”

Fang Zheng looked at the screen with satisfaction, then turned back to Nanoha.

”During the battle, you can activate this module, and it will automatically absorb the stray magic power, just like the NP or rage value in fighting games...”

Fang Zheng had suddenly found this inspiration from game settings, right, since it’s a big move, then surely when the NP is full, you can use it! So as long as a program is set to accumulate NP during battle, won’t that work?

Of course, the magic power accumulated by NP wouldn’t be enough to release a Starlight Burst, but in fact, all Fang Zheng did was move the most dangerous part of the entire process elsewhere.

As everyone knows, the steps of Starlight Burst magic are to bind, condense magic power, and then shoot it out all at once.

The most dangerous part of it is the ”shooting out” because the explosion of a large amount of magic power will cause a substantial burden and impact on the user’s body. If anything, it’s like standing behind a cannon and manually firing it, and then having to withstand the recoil entirely on one’s body.

To withstand such impacts for years without problems would be unusual.

Fang Zheng used NP absorption to create a ”protective barrier” to resist this kind of impact.

In doing so, it effectively turned a manually operated cannon into an automatic one, and Nanoha no longer needed to continually withstand the post-firing recoil at the back since part of the magic power would now absorb and counter this backlash... That’s the best solution Fang Zheng could think of at the moment.

In simple terms, the original ”Starlight Burst” required Nanoha to condense stray magic power to form a shell and then manually launch it. However, the improved ”Starlight Burst” needed Nanoha to only manufacture the shell and fill the barrel; the firing process was completely automated.

Of course, since part of the magic power was separated as ”automation” consumption, the power of Starlight Burst would not be very strong initially. In contrast, its power would gradually increase over time. Considering the need for a wide-area AOE, Fang Zheng directly changed the cylindrical bombardment to cover a large area...

But after knowing Fang Zheng’s idea, Nanoha suddenly had a new thought.

”Teacher, could you modify this magic?”

”Modify? Modify it how?”

”Just... Just...”

Nanoha seemed unsure of how to say it, and Fang Zheng watched her gesticulate for a moment, then as if thinking of something.

”Like a flashlight, where you can initially illuminate a large area, but if I just twist the flashlight, I can narrow the illuminated area, making it brighter...”

”I understand what you mean.”

Upon hearing this, Fang Zheng nodded and wiped a cold sweat in his heart. He obviously understood what Nanoha meant; essentially, it’s first using a wide-area AOE attack to envelope the enemy within the attack range. Once within the AOE, the opponent can’t escape and must resist, passively restricting their actions.

And after that, Nanoha would further enhance the power by narrowing the attack range...

Goodness, that’s deadly!

Fang Zheng glanced at Nanoha, who was watching him with excitement, silently sweating for Fate.

If Fate unexpectedly ran into Nanoha now, wouldn’t she be brutally massacred?
