Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 1137: Chapter 1136: Welcome to Mirai (IV)

Things seem to be going well.

Looking at the bustling exhibition booth not far away, Fang Zheng was very satisfied. He had to admit, that little girl named Nanoka, though young, had indeed considered every aspect in her design blueprint — communications were a necessity for life, information technology was a helpful aid for many employees, and entertainment was a favorite among the young. The entire booth covered all needs from the high-ranking nobility to the lowest commoners across the three generations of old, middle, and young.

However, not everyone was so happy.

”Mr. Fang Zheng, when will our world get to play this duel card game?”

Watching the duel on stage, Eiriri was so envious she was almost drooling.

”Isn’t it possible in our world?”

”Not yet, Eiriri, it will still take some time.”

In response to Eiriri’s inquiry, Fang Zheng shrugged helplessly. If mobile phones and computers were Fang Zheng’s way of adapting modern information society technology to the Otherworld, then duel cards completely relied on the magical civilization of the Otherworld for manufacturing. For example, these duel cards were actually the result of Fang Zheng embedding the School of Illusions’ array within them.

Even though the Main World seemed to have just entered the beginning of the industrial revolution overall, one had to admit that their magic could indeed achieve many things that current technology could not. Take the special effects when that short Mage summoned the Apocalypse Dragon just now; when that Giant Dragon appeared, people could hear its roar, feel the berserk whirlwind and air currents, and even experience a feeling similar to an impact when the Dragon Breath was unleashed.

These were the effects of illusion magic. However, in all the worlds Fang Zheng had traveled through, from the Aura world to the Matter world and the Mech world, even civilizations capable of creating a Dyson Sphere could not achieve such vividly realistic simulated illusions.

Of course, in terms of utility, the Pioneers’ ”Hard Light” technology was surely far more versatile than the School of Illusions’ magic, but it couldn’t create so many effects with a single spell.

If forced to say, perhaps only the Synapsus often mentioned by the Little Angel Nymph could rival the magic of the Main World.

More importantly, even though the Main World was backward, their acceptance of many concepts was surprisingly high. For example, with these duel cards, if Fang Zheng took them to the Game World, people there would definitely try to figure out the principles behind them. However, in the Main World, simply stating it’s a magical effect is enough for most people to accept it easily.

This is why Fang Zheng decided to spread the duel cards in the Main World first. Compared to other worlds, the Main World is just more accepting.

As for the Game World... well, that would have to wait until Fang Zheng completed the AR tech tree and introduced 3D virtual imagery before considering it.

Of course, the reason Fang Zheng chose duel cards as the main focus for this world is... because they allow players to top-up!

Yes, top-up card packs are not exclusive to the era of electronic money. Back when Game King and Magic Card were all the rage, mobile phones still had numeric keys, yet everyone was happily topping up, weren’t they? For Fang Zheng, a game where you can top-up is a good game!

What’s the problem with not being able to conduct online transactions due to a lack of electronic money? I’ll just offer physical card packs. Let’s see if you top-up or not!

A card game like Hearthstone, where you have to grind points match by match, lacks soul. A real man should summon the Blue-Eyes White Dragon in two turns and win instantly!

Fang Zheng also planned to bring Magic Card over once Game King became popular... After all, compared to Game King, Magic Card could sell another type of card pack.

Double the fun...

”But Master, why don’t you directly give them the finished phone?”

At this moment, standing on the other side of Fang Zheng and looking at the bustling booth in the distance, Nymph curiously inquired. As the designer of the mobile phone, Nymph was well aware. Currently, the phones displayed at Fang Zheng’s booth were divided into high, mid, and low categories. The high-end phones were VIP platinum, with no function restrictions.

The mid-range phones were those Ogrande and her group received upon entry, allowing them to experience some functions of the phone but unable to enjoy everything fully.

As for the entry-level phones, they were entirely numeric keypad machines, the cheapest, affordable for the commoners, but very limited in functions, offering only SMS and communication.

However, Nymph well understood, even the phones Fang Zheng currently labeled as ”high-end customized platinum VIP” were actually only semi-finished products. In fact, Nymph had long since developed, according to Fang Zheng’s requirements, phones capable of changing SIM cards, dual SIM dual standby, projecting screens, and even inserting duel cards stored on crystal chips for gaming.

Yet what puzzled Nymph was why Fang Zheng wasn’t selling these completed products, but instead putting out those initially designed semi-finished products...

”You just don’t understand, Nymph.”

However, in the face of Nymph’s inquiry, Fang Zheng shook his head proudly.

”Sales, you see, is just like making games; if you create a game that’s too perfect, considering every function, then when you want to release a sequel, those players who have been spoiled by the predecessor will only become pickier. If the sequel doesn’t meet their expectations, your reputation will crumble instead.”

”So?”

”So we have to reel them in gradually. Indeed, the phones we display now have various problems compared with future models, but you have to understand, this is the first time people in this world are being introduced to mobile phones. Before this, they never used anything similar. So regarding what phones can do and what imperfections there may be, they themselves are not well aware. If you give them a fully functional phone, they will only think that such features are just how phones naturally are!”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng clenched his fist and swung it suddenly.

”So, we start bit by bit. When mobile phones become popular in this world and people gradually get used to living with them, they will surely have all sorts of demands. At that time, we can release different models of phones in batches.”

With these words, Fang Zheng smilingly pointed toward the booth.

”For example, right now, we’re demonstrating the oldest, number-bound phones. Right now, these people probably don’t see anything wrong with them, but slowly, they will surely have related demands. For instance, what do you do if your phone gets lost or broken? As such demands increase, we can smoothly introduce phones that use SIM cards. And after this, when users become more experienced, they’ll inevitably think about, what if they could communicate with two numbers simultaneously... At that point, we can launch third-generation dual SIM dual standby phones.”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng patted Nymph on the shoulder.

”This way, we can earn three times from what was originally a one-time profit! Not only can we sell phones, but we can also sell SIM cards! This way, not only are we not scolded by buyers, they might even be grateful, seeing us as an excellent company that puts people first! It’s a win-win scenario, you understand?”

”Whoa......”

Nymph didn’t respond; instead, it was Eiriri who, after listening, had black lines all over her face.

”Mr. Fang Zheng, you’re just a swindler......”

”As the saying goes, there’s no merchant who isn’t sly, and there’s no sly who isn’t a merchant. With a monopoly that’s such a good deal, you should naturally make as much as you can.”

Speaking thus, Fang Zheng sighed heavily.

Honestly, if he hadn’t been reincarnated as a Cultist in this world, Fang Zheng probably would have tried to create these things sooner.

He’s still a game designer, after all; fighting and killing aren’t really suitable for him. Isn’t it better to watch players happily top-up, then think about how to make them willingly open their wallets next?

Only peace brings wealth.

And allows for top-ups.

After all, during war times, probably no one would want to pass their days playing games.

Is Fang Zheng supposed to drink the northwest wind?

As a game designer, Fang Zheng would never allow that to happen.

Fortunately, as a Paladin, maintaining peace is Fang Zheng’s duty.

”Alright, everything seems fine on this side.”

After confirming there was nothing problematic with the booth, Fang Zheng quickly withdrew his gaze and turned to the girls beside him.

”Let’s also go check out the other exhibits.”
