System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Lu Cheng laughed, ”Auntie, do you get a routine physical examination every year?”

”Physical examination? Not me. I’m quite aware of my own body, unlike you guys who have units arranging physical exams.”

”Now that I’m retired, I’m too lazy to do it. Really, I’m in good health.” Auntie was afraid Lu Cheng might label her with some illness.

”Oh, no worries, I’m just routinely asking about your condition. It’s good that you’re healthy.”

”Please rest well, and if you feel uncomfortable, you can always come find us on duty.” Seeing Auntie didn’t want to chat further, Lu Cheng immediately turned and left.

Bed 3 is unoccupied, while bed 4 is the idle bed next door.

The patient in bed 4 is a young man dressed in a Blue Knight outfit, looking two or three years older than Lu Cheng.

His leg was injured and required hospitalization after cleaning and stitching. He’s fairly compliant with medical orders.

When Lu Cheng entered the ward, he was lying on the bed reading a novel, his bandaged left foot hanging off the bed. Upon seeing Lu Cheng, he prepared to stand up to greet him, ”Hey, don’t move. How do you feel now? Does it hurt?”

”Not bad, there’s a bit of pain, but I’m used to it.” The young man smiled with a somewhat weathered expression on his dark face.

Working as a delivery person is considered long-term outdoor work, more effort equals more pay, exposed to sun and rain, leading to rough skin.

”It hurts a bit? Did you take any medication?” Lu Cheng’s gaze flashed.

”I did, but I haven’t taken the painkillers you prescribed. I feel okay, I can handle it.”

”Doctor, can I return these medications?” the young man asked.

Lu Cheng laughed, ”You can return them if you want, but I still recommend you take some. This non-steroidal pain medication has more of an anti-inflammatory effect besides relieving pain.”

”Antibiotics are for fighting bacteria, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory are two different things. They will speed up your recovery.”

The young man looked puzzled, ”Isn’t anti-inflammatory about injections?”

Lu Cheng said, ”That’s your understanding of anti-inflammatory. Our understanding isn’t that. Anti-infection is anti-infection, anti-inflammatory is anti-inflammatory.”

”We don’t need to dwell on these differences. By the way, have you had any other illnesses before?”

”I asked you this question before, and it seems you haven’t answered yet.”

Upon hearing this, the young man hesitated, ”Is it necessary to ask?”

”Standard inquiry, just say yes or no,” Lu Cheng said.

”Oh…” the young man sighed, ”Does infertility count?”

Lu Cheng slightly opened his mouth and quickly said, ”I’m sorry, just a routine inquiry to better understand your situation, not to open old wounds.”

”Have you been to the hospital for this? Any diagnosis?”

The young man shook his head, ”No, but we’ve been married for years without children. So my wife and I went to see a traditional doctor, took lots of medicine, but it didn’t help…”

”Hey, I know.” The young man’s words immediately caused the old man at bed 6 to close his mouth.

Lu Cheng and the young man exchanged a glance.

”Then haven’t you thought about going to a proper big hospital for a check-up?” Lu Cheng asked.

The young man said, ”Actually, I have been checked, and I’m fine.”

”My parents say a fortune teller told them I’m destined to have a child, and it’s supposed to be a son. But when I was young, I named someone as my godson, occupying the spot.”

”But there’s no such thing. If you’re healthy, having a child should be normal.”

”Maybe it’s just not the right time,” Lu Cheng said.

”If there’s no other issue, I’ll head back.” Lu Cheng originally planned to gain some Skill Points, but now it seems completely pointless.

”Wait, Dr. Lu, are you good at interpreting scans?” the young man suddenly asked.

”Hey, a bit. What’s up? Did you take any scans before?” Lu Cheng asked.

The young man’s injury might have resulted in X-rays.

The young man said, ”Not me, my wife. She said she had a cold and has symptoms of enteritis. Also had a CT scan.”

”She’s been treated for a while but there’s no result.”

”I’m wondering if the doctors there haven’t interpreted it correctly.”

Lu Cheng quickly shook his head, ”Brother, since your wife is hospitalized, she should listen to the local doctors. Compared to them, I’m an amateur.”

As Lu Cheng spoke, the young man had already downloaded the scan.

With today’s advanced network, imaging data is stored in the cloud and can be accessed anytime.

Before Lu Cheng could avoid it, the young man displayed the CT scan in front of him.

Lu Cheng initially didn’t pay much attention, but upon closer inspection, he found something significant.

No way, is this CT scan of the wife? That can’t be right?

Where are the ovaries?

Regarding the enteritis, Lu Cheng needs to examine closely to confirm, but a girl’s missing ovaries can be immediately noticed.

”Dr. Lu, you’re professional too. Just take a quick look and give us some reference.”

”I mean, if the treatment there isn’t effective, we plan to visit the State Hospital.”

”But my wife doesn’t want to come.” The young man said.

Lu Cheng thought for a moment then said, ”She doesn’t want to come? You should ask her to come. If it hasn’t been cured locally for such a long time, quickly let her come here for admission.”

Lu Cheng didn’t know if the young man was aware of his wife’s missing ovaries.

But if he did know, he wouldn’t have mentioned his own infertility. If he didn’t know, to avoid directly causing family conflicts, the only option was to encourage him to bring her here.
