System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Zhong Junyun sighed, ”If you insist, then so be it.”

”But, I still sincerely invite you to consider my previous suggestion. If you come to E Province early, it would truly be a win-win, allowing you to comfortably enhance your foundations in all aspects.”

Lu Cheng’s tone was calm, ”Teacher Zhong, throughout my journey, I’ve never received the best. So I believe people shouldn’t pursue perfection.”

”As long as things are relatively manageable, and there’s a path to follow, that’s good enough.”

”If you pursue perfection in everything, life becomes too exhausting.”

”The best solution doesn’t necessarily belong to me, Lu Cheng.”

This was already Lu Cheng’s established worldview. Lu Cheng has always thought this way and acted accordingly.

For example, Lu Cheng doesn’t participate in competitions nor pursue the prize money.

Similarly, even though Lu Cheng knows Zhong Junyun is an absolute big shot around him—even Professor Du Lianshan, whom he met today, didn’t provide as much support as Professor Zhong—the fact still remains that Lu Cheng isn’t willing to become a ’commodity’!

Zhong Junyun suddenly shed his polite demeanor, ”Lu Cheng, are you thinking that whoever ignores you now won’t be able to reach you in the future?”

Lu Cheng replied without hesitation, ”Teacher Zhong, that’s impossible. Maybe I used to have such naive thoughts, but not anymore.”

”Then what?” Zhong Junyun seemed hesitant to speak further.

Lu Cheng said, ”Teacher Zhong, whether you admit it or not, all the education I’ve received, whether in school or outside of it—”

”When one can’t rely on others, they can only rely on themselves.”

”And I know very well that I’m the type who can’t depend on others. I don’t have that foundation, so I base everything I do on this assumption.”

”No matter what promises or temptations are made to me, I have reluctantly developed the thought that it’s impossible.”

”This instinct, whether due to reason or coincidence, seems quite fitting.”

Lu Cheng opened up his heart.

Has Lu Cheng received ’promises’? Too many indeed.

One significant point was during his postgraduate entrance exam; Mu Nanshu’s feedback was that the teachers at Huashan Hospital had already agreed.

In the end, it fell through.

Then back at Zhongnan Hospital, teachers invited him from the podium!

Again, he was ignored.

Later, when Lu Cheng went to Union Hospital, the future Professor Zhong Junyun painted was so beautiful.

In the end, silently and without a word, Lu Cheng became a basic participant, unknowingly becoming a part of the team.

Lu Cheng isn’t saying he must become the project leader; it’s not like that. Even now, in the scientific research team, Lu Cheng is just one of the participants.

But at least treat me as a person, right?

If only Professor Zhong Junyun had discussed with him a bit more or made a few more calls, if Lu Cheng then chose to refuse, it could be said he was being arrogant.

You didn’t notify me, so am I of any significance to you?

Even the punks in society wouldn’t have a ’boss’ just come over and say, you’re going to follow him from now on.

”Lu Cheng, let me tell you, the techniques you currently master are exceptional for hand surgery.” Zhong Junyun still wanted to talk reason.

Lu Cheng gently interrupted, ”Teacher Zhong, in the past, I didn’t know, and my perspective was quite limited, so most of the time I just listened.”

”But now, I understand my own value and the relative appearance of medicine. Medicine isn’t just about hand surgery.”

”My understanding tells me that, indeed, if I were to go into hand surgery, I could advance the field’s development, which would be greatly beneficial to me personally.”

”But personally, even if I go into emergency medicine, I could still experience substantial growth. As for general surgery, I might even make a tiny bit of progress.”

”Well then, the question reverts to this: since both paths are good to walk, don’t I have the right to choose based on personal preference?”

”If the gears on both sides are the same and not single-pair compatible, then choosing freely isn’t wrong.”

”Moreover, maybe I’ve misunderstood my own capabilities; perhaps I’m not that important!”

”These are all personal choices.”

Professor Zhong Junyun was silent, and the silence lasted a bit long.

Seeing that Professor Zhong Junyun wasn’t speaking, Lu Cheng continued, ”Teacher Zhong, regardless of everything, you have helped me, and that’s a fact.”

”In fact, regardless of everything, you haven’t done anything directly that has caused me actual harm, which is also a fact.”

”So, to sum it up, I must be grateful to you.”

Suddenly, Zhong Junyun said, ”Is this how you express your gratitude to me?”

Lu Cheng replied, ”Teacher, do you remember the things I once told you?”

”Some things can be done, can be thought about, but should not be spoken aloud.”

”I can’t directly say to you that my original techniques surpass the ones you value and that your choices were wrong.”

”I still won’t say that because only when it’s tested, does it become a fact that can’t be refuted.”

”However, Teacher Zhong, the kindness you’ve shown me cannot be replaced by any other hospital, can it?”

”So, Teacher Zhong, you can obtain any foundational, research data, and corresponding materials you want without falling behind any team!”

”This isn’t a guarantee; it’s what I’m currently doing.”

Zhong Junyun understood Lu Cheng’s meaning, but his tone remained somewhat wistful, ”But what I really want now is you. Can you give yourself to me?”

This time, it was Lu Cheng’s turn to be silent for a long while.

Then Lu Cheng said, ”Teacher Zhong, whether or not to give oneself is a personal choice.”

”Some things allow for second chances, with a certain margin for error, but some things cannot be taken back.”

”My personality is already set in stone. I’m sorry.”

Objectively speaking, Zhong Junyun never harmed Lu Cheng and had indeed helped him; that was a fact.

Even if Zhong Junyun once considered Lu Cheng as a resource, it was merely a thought.

Actions are judged, not intentions.

But ideas clash with ideas, and once a collision occurs, nothing in the real world can affect it; no entity can influence it.

Thoughts are intangible; therefore, results are intangible.
