System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Your name is Cao Qiheng? Then we probably don’t know each other.” Lu Cheng’s voice carried a hint of doubt, then became very straightforward.

This kind of forced straightforwardness was exactly the same as after Senior Brother Zhang Boyuan introduced himself.

However, Lu Cheng actually knew the name Cao Qiheng.

Senior Brother Zhang Boyuan said that when he was pursuing his doctorate under Professor Dong Qilang, he had two senior brothers, one classmate, and one junior brother.

Senior Brothers Chen Zhuoheng and Dan Yue were the ’senior brothers’ at the time, both in their third year of doctoral studies and, after graduation, respectively went to Yun Province People’s Hospital and Cosmic First Hospital.

Senior Brother Zhang Boyuan’s classmate, Peng Guangzhao, went to Wuxi Ninth People’s Hospital, Zhang Boyuan came to Xiangya Second Hospital, and only Cao Qiheng, who was in his first year of doctorate at the time, stayed at Huashan in the end.

As the senior brother emphasized by Senior Brother Zhang Boyuan, Lu Cheng could not possibly forget Cao Qiheng.

Cao Qiheng’s voice had an unusual magnetism, not the broadcast kind, just extremely rare: ”Lu Cheng, it’s quite normal that you don’t know me, because when the teacher accepted you, you hadn’t come yet.”

”Although I don’t know the reason why you didn’t manage to pass the re-examination later, it’s been almost ten years now.”

”It’s a pity that I tried to find your contact information, but I never succeeded.”

”Until today, when I was attending the National Microsurgery Skills Competition, I happened to meet some orthopedic colleagues from Xiangya Hospital, and during our conversation, your name came up...”

Cao Qiheng continued, ”If we consider fate, I should barely call you Junior Brother Lu.”

Lu Cheng dared not easily accept this title, only responding, ”Teacher Cao, we have not been fellow students, calling you senior brother is beyond my reach.”

”You? Why are you calling me today?”

Cao Qiheng replied, ”Of course, to catch up.”

Lu Cheng calmly replied, ”Teacher Cao, I am a bit confused now, because I am not sure what we can catch up on.”

”I haven’t met Teacher Dong either.”

To catch up, there must be some matters, a period of time, or some shared experiences.

Lu Cheng had never been to Huashan Hospital and really had nothing to catch up on with Cao Qiheng.

Lu Cheng carefully did not call Professor Dong Qilang a mentor, as it was only one-sidedly mentioned by Professor Dong Qilang to his students, and Lu Cheng had not become his student.

With Lu Cheng’s current status, casually calling someone a mentor would be considered social climbing.

Lu Cheng’s response was flawless, but from Cao Qiheng’s perspective, it was understandable: ”Dr. Lu, the unexpected passing of our teacher was indeed a regrettable event.”

”If the teacher had rested well at that time, maybe everything would have been different, but?”

”Alas... things change over time. At the time, I remember the teacher mentioning in the group that Junior Brother Lu, you had excellent talent.”

Lu Cheng ignored Cao Qiheng’s praise: ”Teacher Cao, are you deliberately teasing me?”

Cao Qiheng hurriedly said, ”Lu Cheng, don’t misunderstand, I didn’t mean it that way.”

”And according to the facts currently presented, your talent indeed amazes everyone, including, but not limited to, me as the ’Senior Brother Nameless’.”

”Although I am not in hand surgery, I have a few friends in hand surgery and heard about your achievements from them.”

”It’s truly impressive!!!”

”Otherwise, I wouldn’t know when I would meet you again, Lu Cheng.”

Lu Cheng replied, ”Teacher Cao, I’m not sure what you mean.”

Some things, you can do but should not say recklessly.

Especially since this pertains to someone from Huashan Hospital, certain words must be spoken carefully.

Even academicians dare not indiscriminately target a single hospital with ’map cannon’ remarks!

Cao Qiheng said, ”Lu Cheng, have you ever thought about pursuing further studies such as a master’s or a doctorate? According to your talent, being confined to a county hospital might be somewhat wasteful.”

Lu Cheng replied, ”Teacher Cao, are you joking with me by saying these things?”

Cao Qiheng’s words reminded Lu Cheng of some recent distorted talent introduction plans—

Providing Nobel Prize winners introduced on a full-time basis with 500,000 yuan in research funding subsidies and 1 million yuan in settlement assistance, along with a monthly allowance of 7,500 yuan!

What Cao Qiheng was now saying to Lu Cheng was, of course, not as exaggerated, but the nature was already similar.

Cao Qiheng hastily said, ”Lu Cheng, I don’t mean I can help you. Given your current accumulation, you can certainly choose any university at will.”

”But choosing a school and choosing a mentor are different. Some well-known universities may not have the best orthopedic mentors, and even among orthopedic renowned institutions, finding a relatively suitable mentor would be more beneficial for your growth.”

”Our Huashan Hospital’s hand surgery department, viewed nationwide, is among the best, and with this fateful encounter, I can provide you with a detailed introduction to mentors that suit you at Huashan.”

”This would also be more beneficial for your future growth.”

”You should understand what I mean.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Cheng also realized that Cao Qiheng meant well; perhaps he only inquired superficially before deciding to call someone named ’Lu Cheng’.

Lu Cheng said, ”Teacher Cao, I have a clear understanding of my career plan, so there’s no need for you to worry. I’m still on duty today.”

”If you don’t have anything particularly important, then I won’t bother you anymore.”

Cao Qiheng hastily said, ”Lu Cheng, don’t hang up yet. Listen to me for a few more words.”

”I know you are currently collaborating on a project with a professor from Xiangya Hospital.”
