System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

January 2, 2024, twenty-first day of the eleventh lunar month, good for marriage, travel, job seeking, starting school, matchmaking, and engagement.

After Lu Cheng had breakfast with his parents, Lu Nanjia and Tian Hui went to say goodbye to Mu Leng and the others.

The holiday was over, and life for Lu Nanjia and Tian Hui continued as usual. Lu Nanjia worked as a mover, and a shopowner he collaborated with had called last night.

His kind of work can be postponed for a day, but not two, or else the owner would find someone else to work with.

Lu Cheng, meanwhile, arrived promptly at the State People’s Hospital’s human resources department at 7:30 a.m. to report.

It wasn’t to sign a contract; for this selection, contracts will be signed later. There weren’t many new hires in this batch, so there was no onboarding event.

However, after checking in with the human resources department, staff symbolically led them to their respective departments to start their positions.

Only eight people were hired through this selection exam at State People’s Hospital, and all positions were filled.

Lu Cheng was the only successful candidate from Long County, so he didn’t know anyone else, but since everyone had been successful, they immediately banded together to exchange information and even created a small group for mutual assistance.

Xiangzhou has a total of eight counties and cities. It’s not only people from counties who can take the selection exam; doctors from towns and other areas, like Ji City, can also participate.

This time, among the eight successful candidates, two knew each other, came from the same unit, and were from a certain district health center in Ji City, both holding senior attending titles.

Lu Cheng didn’t see the brother from Long County’s Urology Department who attended the retest with him, and initially felt a bit down, but quickly cheered up.

”This is Brother Lu, no need for much introduction, his standout scores in the selection exam say it all. Absolute top student.”

”985 bachelor’s degree!” remarked Nie Zifeng from the former Feng County People’s Hospital’s Urology Department, introducing Lu Cheng to others.

”Brother Lu is truly impressive; a colleague of mine nearly fainted when he saw the scores.”

”When the scores came out, he thought about lodging a complaint!” Chen Xiang from Hepatobiliary Surgery gave a thumbs up.

The surgical system’s test papers were standardized; there was no variation in exams based on specialization.

So everyone was aware of the difficulty level of the exam questions.

”Everyone, you’re flattering me. I’ll be working in the emergency department, so I’ll certainly need your assistance,” said Lu Cheng.

Hearing this, Chen Xiang was puzzled, ”Brother Lu, with such excellent preliminary scores, why choose the emergency department?”

”If you had chosen orthopedics, my colleague might not have stood a chance.”

In the State People’s Hospital selection exam, there were six positions in total, with only one slot for orthopedics.

Wherever Lu Cheng chose to go, that slot was practically secured.

How can you make up for a prelim score gap of dozens of points?

Unless Lu Cheng was solely a ’theoretical person,’ if he could pass practicals, no one could easily eliminate the top performer in the written exam!

Not that he would definitely cause trouble, but when such a person does, it’s hard to explain to the higher-ups.

Isn’t it easier to explain away than to dismiss the top, and go for the fourth or fifth?

”Personally, I prefer the emergency department,” replied Lu Cheng.

”Brother Lu’s passion and understanding are truly exemplary for our generation...” Chen Xiang said, full of admiration again.

While everyone was chatting and joking, a ”senior” colleague from the human resources department entered. Seeing everyone was there, he quickly checked his watch: ”You all arrived early. I thought I was twenty minutes early.”

”Teacher Jin.”

”Teacher Jin.”

”Director Jin.”

”...”

The information informed everyone to report to Jin Jun from the human resources department, but they didn’t know his position, so they erred on the side of caution with the titles.

Jin Jun, with darker skin, tall stature, and an outgoing personality, said, ”Just call me Brother Jin from now on. This selection exam is different from regular recruitment; there’s no uniform welcome ceremony, keeping things simple. Here, I represent our hospital to welcome and congratulate you all.”

”Everyone, please come sign in, find your name in order, there are only a dozen people, so it will be quick.”

”While you’re signing, I’ll just say a few words.”

”Later, our human resources department will split into three groups to take you to the respective departments.”

”I’m responsible for the surgical group, the first group for internal medicine, and other miscellaneous departments. Teacher Xu and Teacher Zhong from our HR will take you to report in.”

”Before this, we’ve already contacted the department heads where you’ll be working. Once you’re in, you can start work according to the schedule.”

Chen Xiang from Hepatobiliary Surgery asked, ”Teacher Jin, has our schedule been finalized?”

Jin Jun smiled broadly, ”Yes, all departments are very understaffed and are in need of such outstanding talents as yourselves.”

”It seems workhorses remain workhorses wherever they go. I thought we might have a few extra days of ’leave’ as a buffer,” Chen Xiang joked.

Jin Jun replied, ”There was supposed to be, but recently, the atmosphere in our State has been a bit special. Under these circumstances, nothing can go wrong.”

”So, your leave will be made up later. According to past practice, there will usually be a week of adjustment period.”

”But for now, to maintain stability and ensure all departments have normal and healthy shifts, you are being brought in to start earlier.”

Saying this, Jin Jun clapped his hands, ”Moreover, an even more important issue is reporting your bank account numbers to the finance department as soon as possible.”
