System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

After becoming a leader, what he needed to consider was how to develop the department better. In such circumstances, it’s understandable that Xiang Kuihua wanted to bring Lu Cheng back and cultivate him as a ”key member.”

Lu Cheng didn’t think Xiao Minzhi was wrong: ”Thank you, Director Xiang, for your appreciation, and thank you, Director Tao, for your kindness. I have already made a choice for my current job.”

Xiao Minzhi replied, ”Dr. Lu, as the saying goes, ’Better to be a head of a chicken than a tail of a phoenix.’

”I think Director Xiang from orthopedics is different from the previous Director Peng. Director Xiang is more capable and more perceptive.”

”He can definitely develop our county’s orthopedics better. If you join the orthopedic team, you will be given more importance, and as Director Xiang said, you could truly support the hand-surgery department in our county, developing Orthopedics Section Three.”

Xiang Kuihua’s understanding was excellent, but it was no longer part of Lu Cheng’s plan: ”Xiao Minzhi, we’ve known each other for a long time, so I’ll speak frankly to you.”

”For people like us, getting out isn’t easy. With such an opportunity, I naturally won’t miss it.”

”As for being the tail of a phoenix, I don’t mind. I’ve been the tail of a chicken for many years.”

Lu Cheng’s words were blunt.

Didn’t you say being the head of a chicken or the tail of a phoenix? Then isn’t being the tail of a chicken for so many years even more disgusting?

Being the tail of a phoenix is more comfortable than being the tail of a chicken, right?

Xiao Minzhi was also helpless. She entered the job the same year as Lu Cheng and had interacted with him because Lu Cheng was quite handsome. However, after realizing that Lu Cheng didn’t have much background or ’ability,’ their contact gradually faded.

Now, she has a family, and her attention to Lu Cheng was only recently rekindled due to work tasks.

”Lu Cheng, I just feel this is a good opportunity, but considering Dr. Lu you have already made your choice, we can only wish you a better future and development.”

”I just find it very regrettable! Truly regrettable, very regrettable, Dr. Lu, you should understand what I mean,” Xiao Minzhi spoke rather obliquely.

The strong connections of Xiang Kuihua were no longer a secret.

Lu Cheng said, ”Xiao Minzhi, in this world, there are countless opportunities, and many have slipped through my fingers.”

”But I always believe that only the opportunities we can grasp are the real opportunities, and those we can’t are just illusions.”

Xiao Minzhi spoke more directly: ”Director Xiang mentioned that if the opportunity is right, he could even recommend you for a job at the provincial level, and even handle in-service education improvement for degrees.”

Lu Cheng didn’t deny that Xiang Kuihua had such abilities, but the vision seen by insiders and outsiders of the circle is completely different.

Even though Xiang Kuihua’s connections were strong, he’s ultimately not truly an insider in the circle, unable to influence the basic rules of medical operations, mostly lingering on the edge of the rules.

Improving one’s education without enhancing core abilities, what’s the use? It’s just flashy decoration.

Of course, education is very useful, but its utility is not just those two degree certificates, but everything you learn, see, encounter, and experience during that process, along with the abilities, networks, and so on that you gain.

Put simply, an outstanding master’s graduate is not just about his learning ability, but also the tutors, mentors, and predecessors he brings along.

Hiring such a person, even if trouble arises, there will always be someone to bail him out.

Can an undergraduate, if he has no personal connections, achieve that?

”Xiao Minzhi, thank you for telling me so much. I have my own considerations. Those illusions don’t belong to me, they’re far from me, so they can’t be my support.”

”If it’s not my bone, it will never support my walk. I was an orthopedic doctor, so I only trust my own bones for standing and walking.” Lu Cheng illustrated vividly.

Xiang Kuihua’s family connections certainly surpassed those of Professor Tong Yuan’an and others, but in the industry, they couldn’t surpass the direct support of top professors like Tan Zhongyuan and Zhong Junyun.

No matter who justifies it, it’s useless; the hand-surgery circle only acknowledges its own members. Even the most powerful connections can only linger at the edge and would never dare to enter the core.

...

Xiao Minzhi left.

Lu Cheng also finished writing his surgery records, closed the surgery record of the course of disease, and then carefully checked the postoperative records and related medical instructions of Du Daihua.

After reviewing, Lu Cheng nodded slightly. Du Daihua had been working harder and improving recently, no longer as frivolous as before.

Previously, Du Daihua only thought about how to ingratiate himself with Zhang Tiesheng and Zeng Huanqi, hoping to squeeze into the circle.

However, recently he realized, after seeing Han Xiaoping had a better relationship with Zhang Tiesheng than he did, he started to change his mindset.

Without solid connections to build bridges, the only way to establish a network of contacts is to enhance one’s personal abilities.

All relationships are essentially a relatively fair or unfair ’equivalent exchange’!

Mu Nanshu sent a message, with some photos Xie Yuan’an had previously sent to Mu Nanshu: ”You really did it, how do you feel about it?”

Mu Nanshu didn’t mention Lu Cheng by name.

Lu Cheng thought for a moment and asked, ”Which version of the answer do you want to hear? The petty version? The real version?”

”Tell me both?” Mu Nanshu liked Lu Cheng’s unpretentiousness.

”The petty version’s answer is that it’s not satisfying enough, didn’t manage to beat the ones I really wanted to into a corner.”

”The real version’s answer is, I’ve now realized what those past things amount to? The world has too many tables, too many layers.”

”If I’m still fixated on competing with them, it means I’m narrow-minded. They don’t even qualify to be at the table now.”

”As for their teachers, I don’t dare speak big words for now, but their senior brothers, or even those who have worked for a long time, are the only ones worth my serious attention.”

”Do you remember who made you cry in kindergarten?” Lu Cheng asked.

Mu Nanshu: ”Hong Zhifei.”

Lu Cheng laughed at Mu Nanshu’s message: ”You’re truly candid.”

As they spoke, Lu Cheng’s phone rang again...
