Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 650: Chapter 650: Let me tell you, physical changes life

After ending the conversation with the Lu Hua Army, Dongmu turned his gaze to the towering siege wall not far away.

Completely unprepared, the thought of quickly getting to Feng Mang Region from here was greatly troubled by the high wall in front of them.

Not to mention Yang Yu and the members of the Striped Guardian Clan with their climbing abilities, the other beastmen with their sharp fangs and claws had no means to scale the soaring wall.

The human-constructed walls, nearly thirty meters high and wide enough to accommodate ten carriages abreast, were built from massive blocks of stone; carving a large hole in the wall was nothing short of a pipe dream.

This also showed from another perspective how inconceivable it was for the walls on the eastern front to have collapsed.

The Goddess of Fortune was very busy and didn’t have the time to give them another kick at the wall.

From here to the open central area was a very long distance; bypassing this wall would likely consume a lot of time and delay the rescue.

What to do?

Dongmu was not a general particularly gifted in contemplation, but he was quite willing to listen to others’ ideas and suggestions.

He always believed that when confronted with a problem, thinking together as a group could lead to the fastest solution.

Naturally, Dongmu convened all the officers, calling a meeting to brainstorm.

Some said they could use siege ladders, but regrettably, these were too short for the towering walls.

Others suggested digging tunnels, but this too was a time-consuming approach, especially since the humans had laid deep foundations when building the wall.

Another idea was to use magic to construct ice stairs; in this weather, ice stairs would not easily melt. However, considering the height of the wall, the amount of ice required to build these stairs was astronomical; all the magicians together, working for days and nights, might still not finish the task.

Many suggestions were brought forward, but Dongmu rejected them all.

Yet, he still kept a few seemingly reliable ones for a time when there were truly no other options.

Yang Yu always felt that the task of lifting people to great heights seemed familiar and later remembered—it was just like an elevator!

Unfortunately, constructing an elevator here was equally a fool’s dream.

If only they could package the soldiers and carry them away…

In Yang Yu’s world, there were tools capable of easily lifting heavy objects to great heights, like cranes.

If only they had one.

But Yang Yu believed that a crane was surely an item of epic status or above, and fishing it out of the vast prize pool was as hard as ascending to the heavens.

What’s more difficult was not even knowing if such an item existed in the prize pool.

Even if it did exist, there was no need to stick to cranes; a rammer or a tunnel boring machine would do just fine.

Making a huge hole directly in this wall would put the Luo Ze Empire in a quandary: they would either have to repair it or leave it be.

A more rudimentary method would be to just take a bunch of explosives and blow up the wall.

It sounds good, but that’s just wishful thinking.

Within Yang Yu’s system, he couldn’t find any such excessive items for the time being.

However, when it came to cranes and elevators, Yang Yu did come up with an idea.

Even though there were no cranes, shield machines, rammer or diggers—the high-end stuff—he still had a few physics textbooks.

Yang Yu remembered that while he was following a series, he saw someone lift a tree several times his own weight using a pulley system.

If he could find the chapter on pulleys and review it carefully, maybe, just maybe, he could find a solution.

Not wanting to leave things half-done, Yang Yu quickly made up an excuse and swiftly left the scene to find a place where he could flip through books for answers.

Yang Yu had drawn from the “Skill” lottery many times and, without realizing it, had collected a full set of physical textbooks, ranging from junior high to university levels—even the top right corners of the books displayed x2 and x3 indicators.

Persistence paid off, and with little effort, Yang Yu found the chapter about pulleys, reviewed it carefully, and gradually constructed the optimal plan in his mind to help the troops scale the walls.

…

…

Inside the tent, Dongmu listened to one suggestion after another but couldn’t find a suitable one, shaking his head in secret.

Just then, Yang Yu came running back with a piece of paper in his hand,

“General, I have an excellent idea. This is the design drawing.”

Hearing that Yang Yu had a solution, Dongmu took the design drawing from Yang Yu’s hand. He looked at it and thought, What on Earth is this? The lines were all over the place, and it was completely unclear what he was trying to depict.

Dongmu looked at Yang Yu’s drawing and then at Yang Yu, at a loss for what to say.

“It’s normal for the General not to understand. I once lived in the human world for a while. Please wait for me, General. I’ll get someone to make a sample, and I’ll be right back!”

Having said that, Yang Yu disappeared completely from inside the tent.

Sitting in the tent, with arms crossed and index finger tapping on his arm, Dongmu waited for about half an hour until Yang Yu hurried back, holding a white model in his hand.

Aside from the fine ropes, whether it was the pulleys or the supports, or even the part representing the wall of ice, everything else was made out of ice.

Yes, this model was made with small parts crafted by Bai Jin at Yang Yu’s request, which he then put together himself.

Ice magic could create blocks of ice in various shapes, provided the direction of the magic power was controlled before casting.

Common refreshing square ice blocks need not be mentioned, and creating spherical shapes was also trivial. Other shapes were not impossible either.

It was said that there once was a powerful and twisted ice magician who liked to make ice replicas of the girls he met and could even make the ice move to serve him. He built a palace out of ice magic in a land of extreme cold, enjoying his wonderful harem life.

However, he later froze to death because he forgot to cover himself with a blanket.

Making these little gadgets like the pulley blocks was much simpler than creating ice sculptures, and of course, Bai Jin could make them.

However…

Initially, Bai Jin had no idea what Yang Yu was talking about and didn’t know how to create the things he was asking for, until Yang Yu taught her what is meant by orthographic projection and used a compass and a ruler to draw the orthographic views of each component.

After leaving the Library, Bai Jin was no longer as impatient as before. She could settle down and follow the teaching of Li Yan and Tico, who said, “If you want to climb to the peaks of magic, you must have a firm foundation and start from the very basics,” building her foundational knowledge over and over again from the start.

Recently, Bai Jin’s progress in learning magic had noticeably accelerated, and she was becoming increasingly aware of the profundity of magic. After getting the hang of “Multiple Casting,” she was vaguely grasping the essence of “Dancing in the Air” and “No Chanting.” She was also learning new area-of-effect attack spells.

It was said that a true Great Mage never confined himself to his own skills but could produce any magic he desired with the flick of a hand.

Bai Jin could tell that Yang Yu’s undertaking of this adventure was not merely about surviving the minions of the Demon King…

His goal was surely the Demon King himself, and as long as he could defeat the Demon King, there wouldn’t be any need to be anxious and scared.

She was determined to become someone who could stand by his side.

Because Bai Jin hadn’t slacked off in her studies even during the war, making those small items Yang Yu asked for was not difficult for her. Each was exquisitely beautiful and sturdy, like genuine glass products.

Thanks to Bai Jin’s good fortune, Dongmu had quite a good impression of this model and looked at it with great interest.

Yang Yu’s mouth curved slightly upwards as he said,

“General, let me explain the function, principle, and method of use of this device. It’s actually quite simple.”
