Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 622: Chapter 622: Bet my ass, I’ll kick you over with one foot

Ladders after ladders braved the enemy’s firepower, one after another leaning against the walls of Golden Tangerine City.

To avoid a situation where the walls were too smooth for the ladders to hold, the West Fifth Army dispatched some men to prop up the ladders.

However, due to the fierce enemy gunfire, the propped-up ladders kept falling down, and the task of scaling the wall made no progress.

It wasn’t until Yang Yu caused disturbance after disturbance on top of the wall that the situation alleviated, and Ayoy, along with other centurions, managed to brace the ladders against the wall, attempting to scale it once more.

Drawing his bow, the golden arrows formed in Iyas’s bowstring, and as the bowstring was released, the arrows made of Holy Light left a golden arc in the sky, turning into a bunch of feathers that firmly embedded themselves in the top of the wall, which significantly increased the speed of Ayoy as he climbed the ladder.

The range of “Heavenly Feather” Skill wasn’t actually that large, but through Iyas’s diligent practice and understanding of the principles of Holy Light, she was able to use bows and arrows to extend the reach of this Skill.

The same was true for other Holy Light skills.

Iyas drew her bow once more. Seeing that Yang Yu had just absorbed so many attacks, Iyas felt it was her time to make an impact.

Even though there was still a slight flaw in the combination of Healing Skills and “Light Arrow,” Yang Yu had taken so many Skills that he probably wouldn’t mind the sensation of a needle prick.

The Light Arrow traced a long path through the air, speeding straight to the location where Yang Yu and Pison were fighting.

Confronted with this sudden Light Arrow, Yang Yu raised his sword, splitting it in two, turned his head, and shot Iyas a glance that seemed to say, “What are you doing? If you want to help, aim properly!”

“Really, it seems I messed up again,” Iyas sighed,

“Had I known this would happen, I should have given him a heads-up.

It’s only a bit more until the combo is complete, now it can barely be used…

I don’t care whether it’s a surprise or not, after the battle, I’ll tell him.

I bet he would just laugh it off when he sees this combination.”

Taking a few deep breaths, Iyas adjusted her attitude, realizing she was still not as mature as she had imagined, yet she didn’t feel discouraged.

Afterwards, she still had much, much more to learn.

Now she needed to make up for her mistakes.

Iyas drew her bow again, and this time, she aimed the arrows at the enemies near Yang Yu, forgoing any fancy techniques and simply firing.

Bai Jin was also chanting Spells, supporting the troops with Magic as much as she could.

The defenders of Golden Tangerine City saw that quite a few Beastmen were propping up the ladders again and directed their Magic and arrows at them, trying to leave the ladders unsupported and slide them down the smooth city walls once more.

Bai Jin either countered several Magic Spells with Magic Counter or used Magic to nullify opposing spells, ensuring the safety of the troops.

When the frequency of the defenders’ attacks decreased, Bai Jin took the opportunity to use Ice Magic to firmly fix their troops’ ladders to the ground.

“Now is the time!”

Hearing Bai Jin’s voice, a shirtless man with silver hair climbed the stairs swiftly, jumping from a few steps below where Ayoy was.

Magic Power from the air converged on him, countless smokes swirling around his body, transforming him into a huge Silver Wolf.

Catching the city wall with his paws, Lotcar flipped upwards, confronting the soldiers who were trying to encircle Yang Yu from behind and used his immense strength to knock over one Heavy Soldier after another.

Not wanting to be outdone, Ayoy closely followed Lotcar, along with the rest of his squad, finally emerging on the city wall.

Seeing the heroic fight of Yang Yu and Lotcar, Ayoy hesitated for a moment because it seemed like neither side needed help.

“Leave this to us. You and the soldiers that will come up later, find a way to open the gates!”

Upon receiving Yang Yu’s command, Ayoy nodded and gestured to his brothers behind him to come forward; his hands grew long claws, which he used to directly flip over the city wall.

With the friction between his claws and the city wall slowing his descent, Ayoy landed on the ground with practiced ease.

Many of the new recruits tried to imitate his technique to flip over the wall, but did so clumsily, causing their claws to ache.

However, there was no time for respite; the Luoze defense forces within the city immediately surged forward, surrounding them in a tight circle.

Thankfully, these soldiers were clothed in layers to stave off the severe cold, which made their movements extremely sluggish.

After nearly a month under Yang Yu’s rule, Ayoy and the others had been subjected to countless beatings by Yang Yu, such that these Luoze defense forces were hardly a threat.

One after another, the Beastman Soldiers roared as they scaled the city wall, launching a powerful attack as if to vent all the pressure they had endured.

The Luoze defense forces atop Golden Tangerine City grew increasingly exhausted, and the previously haughty Magicians and Archers found themselves forced into defensive postures.

Worse still, many Subhuman Soldiers—skilled in using claws like Ayoy—had descended into the city, continuously slaughtering Luo Ze Empire’s soldiers and making a beeline for the city gates.

General Pison, constrained by Yang Yu, gritted his teeth in frustration; he had never imagined Golden Tangerine City would fall so quickly.

But instead of losing his composure in anger, he shouted:

“Knights, the time has come to sacrifice for the Empire, hold them back as long as possible, and cover the retreat of the ranged units.”

As a General with many years of experience in defending cities, Pison knew the maxim: “Hold if you can, flee if you can’t.”

Dozens of Heavy Knights formed human walls on either side of the city wall, allowing only the Empire’s soldiers to pass through their ranks, while forcefully resisting the Subhumans’ onslaught.

These Heavy Knights knew that even if they stopped attacking and devoted themselves entirely to defense, they would probably not hold out for long, but for the sake of the Empire’s hegemony, they were willing to lay down their lives.

However, huddled closely together as they were, they became easy targets for the Subhuman Magicians’ concentrated attacks.

The Empire’s Magicians could provide them some protection during the retreat, but as the Magicians withdrew, a barrage of Magic descended upon them.

Still, they remained motionless, steadfast in their duty.

General Pison glared fiercely at Yang Yu,

“Kid, what’s your name!”

Seeing nothing but Iron Turtles on the ground, Yang Yu lost his desire to attack and planted his sword blade into the ground,

“I’m just an ordinary soldier, my name is—Potato Thorn.”

“Hmph! There’ll be another time for us. If we meet again, I’ll tear you to pieces.”

With that, Great Commander Pison turned to leave, but suddenly thorns sprung up from the ground, blocking his path and entangling his hands and feet.

Packing away his sword and shield, Yang Yu jumped towards the wall, grabbing the edge with his hands and his feet touching the wall surface.

Using “Climbing,” Yang Yu skirted around the Heavy Knight Team—who had given up on the assault—drew his sword, and, letting the black shadow sway in the wind along with the sword blade, launched an attack at Pison.

Caught in the thorns, Pison had just freed one hand when he immediately drew his sword to meet Yang Yu’s blade, only to be driven back several steps.

“Enough!”

“Sorry, it was your country that struck first.”

Yang Yu launched another surprise attack, and the sound of clashing sword blades once again rang out with a bam.

And just at this moment, the Beastmen who had climbed over the wall repelled the Golden Tangerine City defenders’ attacks time and again, finally seizing the opportunity to open the city gates.

With a creak, the city gates opened.
