Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 628: Chapter 628: Why Aren’t You Speaking?

The intentions of the Luo Ze Empire were clear.

Choose, go back to rescue, or continue the siege?

If the siege continued, the rear might be thrown into chaos by this surprise attack force.

If they went back to deal with this elite unit, the pace of the attack would be delayed, wasting a lot of time during this unique period of assault.

Now, the best idea that the Lu Hua Army and other generals could come up with was to identify the disruptors in the rear and send out an equally elite force to confront them.

But the question was, how many elites were enough?

The soldiers the Lu Hua Army sent to defend the city were generally of low quality and few in number.

Because in past winters, humans had always been beaten decisively, making it impossible to launch an attack in the deep winter.

According to the existing intelligence, the Luo Ze Empire had never before had forces capable of moving freely in winter, but assuming their numbers were small and sending insufficient manpower would only turn them into prey.

The Lu Hua Army thought they had seized a part of the initiative in the war, only to be outmaneuvered by the Luo Ze Empire again.

Suddenly, this mysteriously appearing troop might cause the West Fifth Army’s plan to attack East View City to be shelved.

So, the Lu Hua Army and other generals of the West Fifth Army had to reconvene to discuss countermeasures and formulate a new strategy.

In the army, Yang Yu had no idea that such an incident had occurred. He was simply in a relaxed mood, distributing the spoils from the war to his soldiers to win their hearts, while as usual, instilling some combat tips and knowledge into his subordinates and constantly urging them to become stronger.

The battle at East View City was about to begin, and Yang Yu felt somewhat expectant.

As long as he performed well enough in this battle, he might jump from being a Centurion to a General, and then he could lead more people and have plenty of opportunities to showcase himself.

However, becoming a general in this winter seemed unlikely.

To become a general, indeed, he would still need to wait for spring and summer’s defense and attack.

As for the tactics by then, Yang Yu had thought them out long ago, named “Sparks of Fire.”

Utilizing the subhumans’ sharp hearing, sense of smell, and vision, they could detect humans before being discovered, strike first, seize the initiative, shift location after firing a shot, and exhaust the soldiers of the Luo Ze Empire.

Of course, whether this was feasible needed to be tried with real bullets.

Yang Yu wasn’t in a rush for now, he just had to get through this winter.

After training, as usual, Yang Yu led his team to eat. Right after finishing, his superior officer called him over to go together to the General’s tent.

Inside the General’s tent, besides Yang Yu, those who came were all officers of General level or above.

The Lu Hua Army sat cross-legged at the center of the tent, not holding a tobacco pipe in his mouth, and waited until everyone had arrived. Then he slowly stood up and got straight to the point,

“This summons isn’t for anything trivial.

We are now facing an unprecedented challenge; some elites from the Luo Ze Empire have appeared behind us and captured several cities we had taken.

They could greatly affect our logistics and supply.

We need some capable people to handle those guys, so we can ensure that our subsequent strategies can be executed smoothly.

This is a highly dangerous task, as the enemy’s numbers and strength are still unclear.

I need you all to recommend the capable personnel from your units to me. I will select them, integrate them, and form a special support troop.”

“In this situation where the strength of both sides is not much different, I hope this team can contain them.

If our strength overwhelmingly surpasses theirs, do not hesitate, focus on annihilation, capture as a secondary option.

As for when their strength overwhelmingly surpasses ours, I also hope you can identify their weaknesses.

Why they can move freely in the ice and snow, their personnel arrangements; these are all very important intelligence.

Well, I have said all I needed to say. Return to your troops, compile a list of the strong, and report their test levels and recent performances to me.

I will personally make the selection.”

Having finished, the Deputy General of the Lu Hua Army distributed the papers to all the officers, leaving only Yang Yu empty-handed.

Once all the officers had left with their papers, in the tent of the Lu Hua Army, only Yang Yu and the Lu Hua Army remained.

Yang Yu did not speak, and neither did the Lu Hua Army, leaving the scene in complete silence.

After a while, the Lu Hua Army finally asked, “Don’t you have anything you want to ask? Why you were summoned here.”

Yang Yu responded calmly, “The general has already explained it clearly enough. The general hopes that my troops and I become part of this support unit, which is why I am here. I remain silent, waiting for the general’s orders.”

The Lu Hua Army nodded in satisfaction, “You’ve managed to grasp my intentions, not bad at all. I have been paying attention to every siege battle you’ve fought.

In terms of strength, you already qualify as a general.”

“I dare not claim that,” Yang Yu responded modestly.

“However, talking just about strength,” the Lu Hua Army shifted his tone, “you are favored by His Majesty and the Prime Minister, so your strength isn’t in question. Yet, to become a true general, mere strength is not enough; exceptional command ability and judgment are also required.

Your capabilities in these areas, I am not yet able to fully assess.”

“General, that’s because I have not been given sufficient opportunities to demonstrate on such a stage. As a centurion, as a subordinate, the most important thing is to obey orders. I believe I excel in this regard.”

“You answer with great spirit. You manage those assigned to you well; you have strong leadership skills.”

The Lu Hua Army pondered for a moment, picking up and then setting down his smoking pipe,

“Although you have not been in the army for long, this time, I will make an exception and trust you. From your troops, pick out the new recruits. I will supplement them with some strong soldiers.”

“That won’t be necessary,” Yang Yu smiled, “Although we haven’t been together long, I have grown somewhat fond of them, and besides, we have practiced many times…

At this point, introducing unfamiliar people and having the team adjust to them would take a lot of time.

This mission is urgent, there is no time to spare, right, General?

Moreover, General, if I lead my troops away, those new recruits will be integrated into other units…

We are about to reach East View City, and if there’s a siege, I’m quite worried they won’t adapt to the other units, leading to numerous casualties…”

Hearing Yang Yu’s sincere suggestion, the Lu Hua Army nodded,

“Then let’s leave it at that. You go back and rest now! And pass this message to your subordinates. I will call you once I have chosen the right people.”

After finishing, the Lu Hua Army waved Yang Yu off, who respectfully took his leave.

Alone, the Lu Hua Army lit his smoking pipe again, took a deep breath, and seemed to sigh helplessly, watching the smoke rings slowly rise.

The Lu Hua Army didn’t know what results this decision might bring, but he decided to take the gamble, gambling on whether Yang Yu might become someone who could help end the war.”
