Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 607: Chapter 607: To Defeat the BOSS and Get Equipment, You Must Pin the BOSS to the Ground and Grind

Traveling northwards, passing through countless towns, the troop of new recruits that set out from Baihua City joined up with new recruits from other cities, gradually swelling in size.

However, the group did not continue to grow; at a certain crossroads, the assembled recruits were divided into several factions.

The majority took different routes to the plains, while the remainder headed to other important battle lines.

To slow down Wansheng Country’s winter offensive, the Luoze Empire would also launch impromptu attacks on other Wansheng battle lines during winter.

Once Wansheng Country committed too few resources to those battle lines, they could be caught off guard by enemy attacks that would tear open a gap, consequently affecting Wansheng Country’s subsequent battle plans.

After the crossroads, Yang Yu’s team was reduced to two-thirds of its original size at departure, divided into upper, middle, and lower sections, with the magicians responsible for transporting supplies standing in the middle section, protected by other soldiers.

Unexpectedly, Yang Yu did not see a large number of carriages. Instead, the logistics team responsible for transportation was streamlined, consisting of fewer than fifty people.

Curious, Yang Yu then moved to the rear of the team to inquire about the situation of the magicians from Bai Jin.

Bai Jin explained that thanks to the development of Storage Magic, people could conveniently store items within magic.

Unfortunately, the use of Storage Magic also varied from person to person; it wasn’t possible to store as much as one wanted.

To store an item, one had to inscribe a magic array capable of containing the item on a visibly real object, whether it be paper or stone.

High-level magicians would directly engrave it on their own bones.

But worry not, it was almost painless.

The reason they did not choose skin was that once the medium for the Storage Magic Array was damaged, even before the array completely failed, a little bit of magic power could activate the previously stored magic array in the medium, causing the items to be expelled by the magic.

It goes without saying that storing something in a leather bag or an unseen iron box was safer.

That wasn’t entirely a bad thing.

Some powerful magicians would use this property to, before the magic power on the broken medium completely disappeared, seal the storage magic of the medium with each fragment using a special magic.

To make it a bit simpler:

Let’s say a magician collected a very powerful weapon and thought it was too simple to pass on just like that. So, he used special cowhide paper to record Storage Magic, put the weapon inside, and then split the cowhide paper into several parts scattered around the world.

Anyone who managed to piece together that cowhide paper could activate the previously shattered Storage Magic and obtain the powerful weapon.

If someone found fragments-like items within a maze, most likely, they were fragments of a medium carrying Storage Magic.

Generally speaking, the more valuable the item, the more complex the necessary magic array, and the more magic power and time needed to retrieve or store the items.

With Bai Jin’s current ability, he could handle objects up to about one cubic meter at a time, not to mention the logistics teams that moved with the army.

Fortunately, although the space for storing items was not large, it could be used repeatedly. Therefore, Yang Yu saw that the logistics team mostly carried rolled scrolls, inside which the real materials were stored via Storage Magic.

Yang Yu was very interested in this type of Storage Magic, especially in whether it was possible to place a scroll containing a bunch of items into another Storage Magic, achieving a nesting dolls effect.

However, the result was already quite clear.

If it were really possible to accomplish nesting as Yang Yu envisioned, the logistics team wouldn’t need to take risks. Instead, they could just train an incredibly fast-moving assassin to deliver an infinitely nested scroll to the front line.

After all, unless the person who crafted the Storage Magic had installed a magic lock to prevent unauthorized use, anyone who got their hands on a medium with Storage Magic could use it immediately.

Even if it were locked, there would be people who would use special methods to pick the magic lock and try to retrieve the items stored within the magic.

It was indeed a considerable drain on time and energy.

Using this rule, some people would seek high-level magicians to engrave a storage magic array on their bodies, thus allowing them to easily access their weapons or other important items.

The “Abyss Gate” in Bai Jin’s possession had been engraved into her bones by her father, though she was unsure which specific bone it was.

The only thing Bai Jin knew was that her father had used her magic power to apply a formidable magic lock on it.

In theory, as long as Bai Jin was unwilling, it would be very hard for her father to retrieve the “Abyss Gate” from her hands.

Upon hearing this, Yang Yu immediately understood.

He thought, to get equipment from a boss, you’d still need to pin the boss down and rub against the ground.

Although he was a warrior, Yang Yu found himself more and more excited about matters related to magic the more he listened.

Had it not been for He Meng blocking his path right after he exited Newbie Village—and twice at that—Yang Yu might not have thought that all slimes in the world were of that ilk.

After much contemplation, he chose the profession of a warrior.

If he hadn’t picked a warrior, Yang Yu figured he might have chosen to be an assassin or a magician for fun.

The Master Mage is always your grandmaster, and as for the assassin… being cool is everything.

Bai Jin had said that if the medium containing the storage magic was damaged, one could still retrieve the items within the storage magic if they acted within a certain time frame…

But if time elapsed and the storage magic was not activated, where exactly would the items inside the storage magic go?

Bai Jin did not immediately answer Yang Yu’s question but instead told him a story. The story was about a magician who accidentally destroyed the scroll storing his beloved weapon and, after much hardship, rediscovered the weapon in a certain underground maze.

Yes, if the storage magic failed, there was a reasonable chance that the items from the storage magic could appear within an underground maze.

The principle behind it was still unknown to anyone.

“So, that’s how it is.”

Yang Yu squinted his eyes, thinking logically that if underground mazes continually exploded with Gold Coins or plenty of good equipment, inflation in this world would have been significant by now.

Many underground mazes would explode with currency relevant to the era, considering the existence of beings like Scarjade in those mazes…

No…

Yang Yu suddenly remembered that he had never strategized any mazes besides those built by the Ancient Brave Warrior Lox; he simply didn’t know the situations in other underground mazes.

However…

Yang Yu recalled that in the treasure room on the last level of the Goblin Maze, there were numerous pure gold coins embossed with a goblin pattern, not simply using G—gold as a unit of measure like outside.

Once this war was over, he needed to strategize other underground mazes.

As Yang Yu was thinking this, Lotcar turned his ears, picking up the faint sounds emanating from the forest they were marching through.

Without needing Lotcar’s reminder, Old General Glar’s sharp hearing also caught the unusual noises that were difficult for ordinary people to detect,

“Entire army! Prepare for battle!”

Before Glar’s words faded, Luoze soldiers ambushed the marching Wansheng Country rookies from within the forest; numerous magicians followed closely, chanting magic, targeting the logistical units moving with the rookies.
