Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 635: Chapter 635: There’s More Than One Solution

Within the pit, the mages who landed first endured their pain and chanted spells, activating the enormous Teleportation Array beneath their feet, preparing for teleportation.

The Luo Ze Elite had constructed the teleportation Array in advance to ensure they could transition instantaneously in case the mission failed, to avoid excessive losses.

However, these Luo Ze Elite had not anticipated that the situation would end like this.

Before laying their ambush here, most of these Luo Ze Elite harbored proud confidence that they would eradicate all the barbarians.

Snowman Jie’er Ate gazed across the plains, his eyes landing on the colossal Lotcar, his gaze seemingly saying, “Next time, we shall battle again.”

Then, Jie’er Ate swung his massive palm, dispelling Wansheng Country soldiers one after another as they tried to approach the pit, and together with Kui Yi, who brandished his twin blades, he covered the troops’ retreat back into the pit.

Stabilizing his body on the shattered snow fields, Yang Yu had no intention to continue the pursuit.

Pushing the enemy too hard could lead to desperate, cornered reactions, leading to a struggle to the death that would add insult to injury for his already battered troops.

In the end, even if he wiped them out entirely, only a few would have survived.

As the leader of the troop, Kun Ya shared the same thoughts as Yang Yu; he commanded his troop to lightly pursue the enemy over the broken ground without pushing too deeply.

Only when Kui Yi and Snowman Jie’er Ate fell into the pit did Kun Ya order his men to unload their firepower upon it.

As expected, most of the magical attacks from the Beastman Soldiers were defended against by the Luo Ze Elite mages.

Those that were not defended against also did not stop the activation of the Teleportation Magic.

A milky white light enveloped the Luo Ze Elite from below, and in the blink of an eye, there was no longer any trace of them within the pit.

This sudden assault came to an end with the retreat of the Luo Ze Elite.

No one was an absolute victor, but there was always a loser.

Kun Ya surveyed his surroundings, the fallen Beastman Soldiers, along with the fresh blood spilled, were mercilessly frozen into ice by nature.

The complexities in Kun Ya’s heart were indescribable; in this skirmish, they had suffered over two hundred casualties just to kill less than twenty Luo Ze Elite.

Even the excellently performing troops of Yang Yu had lost more than twenty in this battle.

Judging by the casualties, they had been thoroughly defeated.

The disparity in strength between them and the Luo Ze Elite was simply too great.

After sending someone to confirm that the Luo Ze Elite had indeed used Teleportation Magic to escape, Kun Ya sheathed his sword and approached Yang Yu, who was still observing the battlefield.

“Thank you, Captain Potato, without you, we would have lost many more lives.”

No amount of words could express the gratitude in his heart, so Kun Ya could only nod his thanks.

“It’s not really something to boast about.”

After making sure there were no enemies left on the battlefield, Yang Yu relaxed his shoulders, watching the distant pit from afar,

“In the end, we were still slaughtered without mercy; many in my troop met untimely deaths. I will return this hatred a thousandfold.”

“Good, a thousandfold return. That’s the kind of audacity the youth should possess.”

As if releasing all the pressure from his shoulders, Kun Ya laughed heartily.

After a long laugh, Kun Ya once again revealed a very serious expression, his canine teeth opening and closing,

“But this will be difficult, their strength is exceptionally abnormal.

Against us, it’s like chopping vegetables.

That team’s average Level would seem to be above A, and needless to say about their comprehensive Evaluation, which is far beyond Super S-class.

Why doesn’t the Dragon God Evaluation Country do something about it?”

Kun Ya slammed his fist into his palm, filled with righteous indignation, clearly dissatisfied with the inaction of the Dragon God Evaluation Country.

“You should remove the ‘should’ from your confidence. Their average Strength has already reached A, or even higher.

And it’s very likely that this is still within the rules set by the giant dragons.”

Through the System, Yang Yu could clearly see the attributes of every Luo Ze elite. By comparing that group of Luo Ze elites with the members of his team who were evaluated as Level A, he quickly reached a conclusion.

Not a single one of the elites sent by the Luo Ze Empire was below Level A.

“What do you know?”

“They average above Level A now, but that doesn’t mean they were always a Level A troop.”

Yang Yu took out a small booklet of military regulations from the System and flipped through it until he found the entry on “growth.” He opened it for Kun Ya to see,

“The giant dragons are reluctant to see individuals wielding excessive power that leads to civilian deaths. However, it seems they quite enjoy seeing certain individuals grow to become war heroes.

Individuals evaluated as Super S-class are prohibited from participating in the war, yet those who break through to Super S-class on their own after the war begins receive leniency from the giant dragons.

The same goes for groups.

If a team had registered with dragon overseers beforehand and had an average level below B or an overall evaluation below A…

As long as that team wasn’t disbanded or reassigned, upon growing, they would still enjoy certain privileges they had before their team’s enhancement.

It’s likely that the dragons also want to see a group emerge that can overturn the course of the war single-handedly.”

After hearing Yang Yu’s explanation, Kun Ya immediately had an epiphany, “Are you suggesting that this team has been kept in reserve and nurtured by the Luo Ze Empire to reverse the tide at a critical juncture?”

“Based on what we’ve seen, that seems to be the case.”

Yang Yu affirmed with certainty,

“With their large population, it wouldn’t be difficult for the Luo Ze Empire to select and train a few individuals with potential.

How long they’ve been developing this team, who can say?

Three years, five years, or maybe they’ve been trained from the very beginning?

The Luo Ze Empire is an old hand at exploiting every rule; who knows when they actually began preparing for this war.

This opponent is no ordinary foe.

So, what should we do next, Deputy General Kun Ya?

”

After considering for a moment, Kun Ya answered, “For now, we should make contact with General Lu and inform him of this matter.

Then, we must deal with the bodies of the fallen soldiers… at least bury them…

So their souls won’t linger on this brutal winter and can rest in peace.”

“Let’s do as the Deputy General suggests. And there’s one more thing…”

Yang Yu handed over a piece of cloth he had taken from the enemy to Kun Ya,

“They rely on this kind of material to withstand the cold. If we can thoroughly investigate its weaknesses, it could make our future battles much easier if they attack again.

I will lead a troop and try to strip these clothes from the deceased Luo Ze elites.

It might come in handy later on!”

Taking the cloth from Yang Yu and feeling its warmth, Kun Ya nodded solemnly and immediately organized personnel to clean up the battlefield and quickly made contact with the Lu Hua Army.

Yang Yu, however, did not immediately organize personnel to start the operation. Instead, he looked up at the sky.

The war between humans and subhumans was really being treated like a game for the viewing pleasure of the powerful giant dragons.

Perhaps they were somewhere watching now, finding delight in the recent battle.

Those sitting in high positions really do enjoy such things more than a war that follows the rules.

They prefer the romance of an individual breaking the deadlock on their own.

It seemed necessary to truly meet the overseers of this war.

And to confirm the “rules” from their mouths once more.
