Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 616: Chapter 616 Frequent Destruction

Yang Yu had already prioritized eliminating the tougher thorns, leaving behind some average soldiers who had only fought a few years.

As a seasoned big brother of over Level 70, crushing some common soldiers at Level 40 to 50 was a piece of cake for him, and the battle ended swiftly.

Yang Yu counted his Experience Value with satisfaction.

Though his required Experience had dramatically increased with each Level up, cleaning up his own troops only added a quarter to his Experience Bar.

Nonetheless, Yang Yu was pretty content.

Back in the day, gaining one or two Experience Points in Newbie Village was the norm.

Here, it was much more profitable than Refreshing Newbie Village, especially since he was only farming low-level little soldiers. If he faced off against officers, he would gain even more Experience.

Yang Yu had just noticed that even the weakest Centurion in his team, though not as highly attributed as Ayoy, would yield twice the Experience Value when defeated.

Having a military title also affected the amount of Experience Value.

Now, Yang Yu had ample motivation to take on a battle with an enemy General.

Battling other leaders was far more interesting than unrivaled grass-cutting.

After the individual training ended, Yang Yu organized simple exchanges between the new and old soldiers before taking them back to their respective tents.

In Wansheng Country, ten people shared a tent. As a Centurion, Yang Yu had to bunk with the other three Centurions.

Only at the rank of a General would one have their own tent to rest in solitude.

Before returning to his tent, Yang Yu took Iyas and Bai Jin to a camp especially for female Subhumans and asked the female Yajiang there to take good care of them.

Seeing that Bai Jin and Iyas were elves, the female Yajiang naturally dared not neglect them and immediately arranged for accommodations, even giving Bai Jin and Iyas the privilege of sharing their own tent.

…

Lux Calendar, Year 414, November 19th.

Yang Yu returned to his own tent, thus ending his first day with the West Fifth Army.

Lux Calendar, Year 414, November 23rd.

The first snow of the year descended upon the Feng Mang Region, and thin ice began to form along the rushing Rakasile River.

Luoze logistics soldiers, bearing supplies, marched in uniform steps, crossing the iron bridge stretched across Qianluo Canyon.

Near Qianluo Canyon, a towering wall rose alongside the turbulent Rakasile River.

That was the wall the Luo Ze Empire had built to contend with the Beastmen of Wansheng Country.

The wall stood over twenty meters high, wide enough to accommodate ten carriages side by side, and they had begun to assemble the cannons on top.

With just a bit of time, once the cannons were fully assembled, the Luo Ze Empire would be confident in not entirely losing the Long Boots Region.

Moreover, they could launch an even fiercer offensive, aiming to completely seize the Long Boots Region, and extend their reach into deeper areas to utterly crush Wansheng Country’s hopes of retaking the plains.

Such an important strategic location was naturally guarded by a heavy military presence from the Luo Ze Empire, and they even had high-level Magicians stationed at the top of the canyon to guard against any unforeseen stealth attacks.

On the iron bridge, the soldiers transporting supplies faced neither fear of the narrow bridge nor the torrential river below. Instead, they walked with utter confidence, each step firm and steady.

To them, it was merely a sparse and ordinary resource delivery task.

Without warning, a massive explosion occurred on the solid iron bridge, and the soldiers transporting the supplies, along with the supplies themselves, fell into the turbulent river below, swallowed by the icy waters.

On November 24th, 414 of the Lux calendar, the Luo Ze Empire conducted an investigation into the Qianluo Canyon, but aside from the blasted wreckage of the iron bridge and the weapons gifted to officers by the Emperor, they found no clues.

With so many magicians standing guard here, any fluctuation of magic power would not have escaped their magical detection.

However, it was only after the accident that the magicians faintly sensed an indistinct magic fluctuation.

By November 27th, after several days of investigation, the investigative team came up empty. Given the knowledge that Wansheng Country had overconfidently launched an attack on the 311th high ground in the Long Boots Region,

the upper echelons of the Luo Ze Empire decided to temporarily shelve the matter, giving priority to dealing with the offensive of the West Fifth Army.

They would investigate this event later along with other equally baffling occurrences.

They named it the 105th Mysterious Incident of the war.

On December 3rd, the guards of the Luo Ze Empire defending the Long Boots Region repelled the West Fifth Army and judged this to be a probing attack.

It could not be ruled out that there was no connection between the West Fifth Army and this mysterious explosion.

As Rakasile was still a week or two from being completely frozen over, with the iron bridge broken, it was difficult to estimate how much time the delay would cause for the supplies to reach the front lines.

The investigative troops continued their investigation into this mysterious event to prevent a second occurrence.

On December 4th, the investigative troops of the Luo Ze Empire received a report from the troops stationed in the 025 region of the Long Boots area, claiming that several members of their unit were acting suspiciously. The investigation team rushed to investigate immediately, only to find that the reported soldiers had vanished without a trace.

On December 6th, scouts sent to Xiding City by the Luo Ze Empire noticed that the Lu Hua Army General and the West Fifth Army were showing signs of unrest, but there was no word yet on their departure.

On December 7th, an urgent event occurred, as the Sicakun troops sent to Wansheng Country for a raid were killed within the controlled region of Qinghe Volcano, with no survivors.

The Luo Ze Empire immediately redirected the investigation team to examine the Sicakun troops and determine what went wrong. This matter is taken very seriously by both the National Guardian General and the Emperor.

On December 8th, an emergency situation arose when the walls built in the territory of the East Second Army of Wansheng Country suddenly collapsed for unknown reasons.

On December 10th, Yang Yu rose early and indulged in a hearty meal.

…

…

Truthfully speaking, life in the army was even more boring than Yang Yu had imagined.

Aside from the excitement of having his own troops on the first day, each subsequent day became harder to endure than the last, as every day was spent completing fixed training tasks as dictated by superiors.

Yang Yu felt as though, overnight, he had returned to college military training, except now, he had become a real drill sergeant leading a real army.

Although the Wansheng Country’s army places more emphasis on individual strength, it still adheres to strict military regulations. Everyone must reside within the army, with no holidays to speak of, let alone taking strolls in Xiding City.

Yang Yu’s entertainment consisted solely of, after a full meal, leading his subordinates in independent training exercises and implementing adjustments on them.

Under Yang Yu’s mentorship, the soldiers led by Ayoy made rapid and significant progress, but at this moment, they had no opportunity to use their skills in combat.

Perhaps because the winter offensive was imminent, the Deputy General who had been sent by the Lu Hua Army to test the waters had also returned, and the atmosphere within the army grew ever more oppressive.

So oppressive that even a casual smile within the army ranks could be considered heretical.
