Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 640: Chapter 640: Artillery Stalemate

Not just this team, but more and more firing squads were experiencing the same issue.

“Report, Heavy Fire Gate Cannon No. 002 is unable to attack due to unknown reasons, urgently troubleshooting the malfunction.”

“Report, incoming cannon No. 112 cannot perform an attack, reason unknown…”

“…”

More and more reports reached Piluf’s ears, until finally, only a few giant cannons could still operate normally.

“What on earth is happening?”

Piluf’s brows were furrowed tightly, but the Wansheng Country Army didn’t stop their attack due to his contemplation. On the contrary, they charged even more vigorously without the fierce artillery fire.

With no other choice, Piluf hastily adjusted his troops, organizing soldiers and mages to launch an attack on the city walls.

At the same time, the bells on the city wall were rung, signaling the urgency of the battle.

Sitting atop his beloved warhorse, the white-haired general with one blind eye listened to the cannon fire becoming intermittent and furrowed his brows, his mind occupied by a single thought:

— It turns out the rumors of a traitor are all true.

“Hear my command, charge out of the city to meet the enemy!”

At General Kahel’s order, the massive iron gates of East View City thunderously dropped, falling onto the frozen moat.

Riding a six-legged white horse, General Kahel took the lead and charged out of East View City.

Colliding harshly with the Wansheng Country soldiers assaulting East View City, he single-handedly sent countless soldiers of the West Fifth Army flying.

The Lu Hua Army also noticed the anomaly on the city walls. He didn’t understand what had happened there, but it seemed the Goddess of Fortune had slightly lifted her skirt to favor Wansheng Country.

Eliminating the possibility of a trap…

Judging from various intelligence reports, though reluctant to admit it, it seemed that there were also humans who opposed the invasion of Wansheng Country.

It was just… perhaps, a bit too late.

No, not too late.

As long as they could successfully capture Sailuomen Plain and then end this war, it wouldn’t be too late.

“Yang Yu, change of plan, the troops in the rear haven’t yet had the chance to react to this situation.

You go and proceed with the original plan to attack the city, I’ll stop that guy!”

After speaking, without waiting for Yang Yu’s response, Lu Hua Army used an Acceleration Skill to rush in front of General Kahel, who took the lead, and swung his sword blade straight at the horse’s head.

General Kahel and his beloved horse emitted a beam of golden light, blocking the strike from Lu Hua Army.

At that moment, time seemed to stand still for both of them.

“It’s indeed a pleasure to see you again, my most outstanding student.”

“Hmph, I’m also pleased, my former teacher.

You encountering issues so early on, this year there is hope of reclaiming the Long Boots Region.

We won’t let you take this place away again.”

The Lu Hua Army’s faces broke into smiles as the antlers on their heads suddenly grew larger and aimed at the pillar of light, which shattered in an instant.

General Kahel raised the Long Spear in his hands, blocking the Lu Hua Army’s antlers.

After many years of fighting each other, they were both intimately familiar with the other’s Skills, this was not a fight like that between mentors and friends, but one where they staked the future of their nation.

Watching the bigwigs clash, Yang Yu had no intention of joining in and instead focused on the original plan of continuing the siege.

The absence of cannons did not mean they could catch their breath.

Although the Sub-human Mages of Wansheng Country had received magical education, it was not as widespread as that in the Luo Ze Empire.

Gorgeous Magic collided in the air, with the Luo Ze Empire Magicians, positioned high above, having the upper hand, their furious Magic replacing the malfunctioning cannons and exploding again and again amongst the ranks of the Wansheng Country Army.

Seeing the numerous Luo Ze defenders on the walls, Yang Yu abandoned any notion of hogging the limelight and went all out to cover the troops’ advance.

During these days, Bai Jin had learned “Multiple casting,” and her simple Frost Ice Arrows could now be fired in rapid succession. Combined with Iyas, effortlessly defending the troops from the relentless magic assaults, ensuring their safety step by step closer to the city walls.

The scaling ladders once more reached the smooth city wall, fixed in place by Bai Jin’s Ice Magic.

Possessing the “Climbing” Skill, Yang Yu took the lead, using Shield and Sword Blade to fend off the Magicians and Archers’ Attacks, covering the troops’ advance, leaping among the soldiers guarding the ramparts to forge a path.

Soon, sturdy Heavy Knights appeared again in front of Yang Yu, with several Centurion-ranked individuals taking it upon themselves to try to drive Yang Yu and his troops off the wall.

Having come this far, Yang Yu was not about to leave easily and immediately organized his men to resist.

When dozens of Wansheng Country soldiers scaled the walls, the Stripe Guardian Sub-humans spread their fingertips wide, granting them unimaginable Climbing ability, ascending the wall almost effortlessly.

During the Stripe Guardians’ climb, the city’s defending soldiers clashed violently with the troops led by Yang Yu.

Under Yang Yu’s command, his troops gained considerable advantage in several exchanges.

Naturally, the East View City defenders could not simply ignore Yang Yu.

More and more powerful soldiers converged around Yang Yu, intending to expel him and his men from the city walls.

The Stripe Guardian Sub-humans who had made it to the wall immediately joined the battle under Yang Yu’s command. Faced with the encircling soldiers, they lay half-crouched on the ground, lifting their huge tails.

A thick stream of fluid ejected from their tails, dousing the attacking soldiers.

Instantly, several Luo Ze soldiers were entangled by the sticky liquid, as if coated in glue, their Speed plummeting by 70% and their Defense decreasing by nearly 30%.

That wasn’t the end of it; the Stripe Guardian Sub-humans widened their eyes, and fine scales shot out from their tails, penetrating the Knights’ Armor and burying into their flesh, as cries of agony rose one after another.

Piluf rushed over, he too had not expected to encounter these troublesome creatures here.

Piluf had also heard of the Striped Guardian Clan.

It was said that if this elite unit managed to scale the city walls, they had a 90% chance of capturing that city.

Even though these lizard-type Sub-humans were extremely sensitive to the weather, in such cold winter, they would never dare to leave their caves.

He wondered how they could move so freely in such cold weather.

Piluf wanted to know the answer, but he knew that now was not the time for such inquiry. Instead, he needed to drive these Stripe Guardian Sub-humans from the walls to protect the safety of East View City.

The Stripe Guardian Clan’s “Scale Shooting” was highly effective against Heavy Knights, but they also had a fatal flaw; they were as thin as paper.

If only he could get close to them, using his own strength, a chaotic slaughter awaited.

Without hesitation, Piluf clenched his fists and made straight for the Stripe Guardian Clan.
