Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 612: Chapter 612: You must have come to see me, right?

Luoze Empire, Yenodore.

This major city, situated near the frontline of the two countries, had naturally become the bridgehead for the Luoze Empire’s campaign against Wansheng Country.

Every day, a large amount of supplies were transported to Yenodore, then distributed to various frontlines to support military operations.

The Luoze Empire, located at the northern end of the continent, had one fourth of its territory perennially covered with snow, and most of the remaining areas had four distinct seasons, with only one season suitable for growing crops annually.

To sustain the massive and prolonged military activities, relying only on the Empire’s internal resources meant significantly raising taxes.

That would inevitably lead to widespread complaints among the citizens and risk national instability with just a slight mishap.

The current Emperor opted for cooperation with other human nations.

The Luoze Empire sold large quantities of rare ores to other human countries and, in return, bought massive amounts of war supplies.

One day, a carriage, looking completely out of place in the city, made its way unhindered into Yenodore.

The soldiers along the way all bowed slightly in respect at the sight of the carriage.

They all knew the distinguished status of the miss riding inside.

That was none other than the National Guardian General’s most precious daughter.

Descending from the carriage, the young lady was led by the soldiers into a room in Yenodore where an important meeting was being convened.

Inside the room, countless officers were following a young man with a broad face as they processed mountains of paperwork, approving various supplies to ensure they reached every troop in need before the onset of winter.

As soon as the broad-faced young man saw the girl, he immediately set aside his work and went to greet her, his face undisguised in its delight,

“Rosalind, why have you come? As expected, it’s been a long time; you’ve missed me, haven’t you?”

The girl addressed as Rosalind couldn’t hide the joy on her own face either.

Nevertheless, she still observed proper etiquette, lifting her elegant white dress and curtsying,

“Prince Brage, it has been a long time indeed.”

“No need for such formalities; our affair isn’t a secret to anyone. All I need to do is wait for the war to end, and I’ll come to the General Mansion with gifts to formally propose.”

Speaking of which, a hint of displeasure appeared on Brage’s face,

“Speaking of which, it’s truly annoying.

I have no idea why father suddenly sent me here to deal with these trivial matters.

All I really want is to enjoy a quiet life in the castle with you.”

“Prince Brage, don’t say that. You are the first in line to succeed the throne, and His Majesty holds you in high regard.

He sent you here to train you,” Rosalind said with a smile.

“I’m not interested in the throne. I care about you more than the kingship.

Let my brother succeed to it.

After all, the guy is handsome, with a beauty that resembles our mother.

Both among women and the citizens, his popularity never wanes, and he deals with people in such a gentle manner.

He’s more suited for the role of King than I am.

Or, Latis could also do; she’s quite popular among the citizens of the Luoze Empire.

She has a decent magic talent and has seen the world in the All Things Library.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Latis; I guess when she comes back, she’ll be even more popular.

Sigh—

Out of the three siblings, I’m the only one who’s not popular…”

Brage still couldn’t conceal his inner sense of inferiority; his siblings were both good-looking, so why was he the odd one out?

No, that wasn’t right; he was the firstborn, perhaps he had absorbed all the impurities from his parents’ bodies, which allowed his younger siblings to be born with such good looks?

Rosalind chuckled, “Looking like this is rather an advantage; you resemble His Majesty, which is why the Emperor has always doted on you so much.”

And I think the citizens wouldn’t want someone who looks a bit cowardly becoming their King, as it would diminish the Majesty’s dignity.

“You truly are the most, most, most suitable one.”

“Really?”

“Really, I quite like you just the way you are.”

Upon receiving Rosalind’s confirmation, Brage’s eyes shone, and his minor worries were swept away.

If it weren’t for the meeting room, he would have already been dancing with joy.

“Prince Brage, although I am delighted to see you again,

I am here on serious business.

My father sent me to deliver the newly forged Platinum Stone weapons to you, for you to distribute to the top-performing generals.

It was a joint decision made by him and His Majesty the King.”

As she spoke, Rosalind gently lifted her hand, and a letter appeared in her grasp.

Brage didn’t open the letter but tucked it away immediately,

“I’ve got it and will handle it well.

Rosalind, don’t you want to stay here for a few more days?

With me around, I guarantee nothing would go wrong,” Brage pledged earnestly.

But Rosalind just lifted her finger and affectionately poked Brage’s chest,

“You, do you want to bear the blame for not working properly yourself, or do you want me to take the blame for clinging to you and hindering your work?

Get to work and don’t betray the expectations we have for you. If all goes well, after the winter guard is over and it’s less busy, you should be called back to the Imperial Palace.

Then, we will have plenty of time together.

Alright, I must report back now. See you in the spring, and I’ll say it again, work hard, and no slacking off.”

After speaking, Rosalind reluctantly took her leave, and while Brage wanted to walk her out, cherishing every second of their meeting, she declined.

With another reminder to Brage, Rosalind stepped outside, briefly turned her head, a hint of reluctance still in her eyes, but in the end, she refrained from looking back and returned to her carriage.

Brage gently touched the spot where Rosalind had poked him, choosing not to follow after her.

When pushed to that extent, what else could he do but work hard and strive to see Rosalind again soon?

Delivering a statement like that was a task anyone could do; why would Rosalind need to come herself? Indeed, she came to see me, and I definitely cannot let her down.

Brage Q. Luoze was overjoyed, suddenly filled with vigor.

…

…

The carriage from the General Mansion gradually moved away from Yenodore.

Through the window, Rosalind surveyed this fortress city.

The streets of Yenodore were bustling, and for every five people, there was one soldier in Luo Ze Empire uniform.

Even when out and about, they stood tall and straight, each step they took was precise and standard, everything they did met the requirements.

“Humans are truly interesting creatures, not to be underestimated.”

Realizing that a moment of candidness had slipped out, Rosalind raised her finger to lightly touch her lips, the corner of her mouth curling into a teasing smile,

“Alala, that was rather careless.

Even if no one heard it, one must still be careful.”

Muttering to herself, Rosalind took out a black cat head button the size of a fingernail and began to play with it.

Suddenly, a glimmer passed over the adorable black cat head button and the shape of a bat appeared.
